Pervert Your Own "Bush/Cheney '04" Sign!

From wonkette:
The brilliant strategists at Bush-Cheney HQ allow you to customize a campaign poster with a slogan of your choosing. And, yes, we tried the obvious ones but someone thought to block those. You can't make a poster that says "Penis," or "Poo-Poo," or "Prince of Darkness." Sadly, you also can't produce propaganda that asserts badly needed pro-Bush sentiments. We tried, and failed, to make a poster reading: "Not Hitler!" Thinking that perhaps wasn't strong enough, we also tried "It's not like he's Hitler." No go. Even the more emphatic "Not at all like Hitler in the least!" was rejected. Disturbingly, we did get away with "Lebensraum!"

it spits out a PDF, suitable for printing! enjoy!

Kingfish Cowboy (Kingfish), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

See if you can come up with a good one. my original suggestion of "Can I Get A Whut Whut!" just seems so uninspired...

Kingfish Cowboy (Kingfish), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 22:22 (twenty-one years ago)

better link

this is great.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

oops. thank you Teeny.

Kingfish Cowboy (Kingfish), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 22:29 (twenty-one years ago)

For maximum effect I suggest to work within their frame if you can before trying l33t.

Sébastien Chikara (Sébastien Chikara), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 22:32 (twenty-one years ago)

"Adelante Con Jesus"!

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 22:35 (twenty-one years ago)

damn - "ain't into faggots" was rejected

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 22:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Mine says 'Don't make Jesus hate you!'

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 22:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I did a good one, it looks nice. Simply:

Because Everyone Isn't Dead Yet!

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 22:50 (twenty-one years ago)

It wouldn't even let me put text in. Maybe it's because I typed 'Chicago' as my address.

Kerry (dymaxia), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:02 (twenty-one years ago)

(you're only allowed one option - you can't use the text box if you use any of the others)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:04 (twenty-one years ago)

it rejected "make the world safe for assholes for another 4 years!"

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

It's rejecting all of mine!

Kerry (dymaxia), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:14 (twenty-one years ago)

You should all print and display these BUSH/CHENEY '04 signs with small, illegible, italicized smartass remarks on them. It will get your guy elected.

Is that really our president? He almost looks like Jerry Brown, of all people.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Just browsing this thread, it appears that the site filters out slogans based on a set of keywords, such as "Hitler" and "penis". Such simple-minded filtering ought to be astoundingly easy to defeat.

I expect that this site will shut down fairly soon, after a real campaign worker gets a look at the log and sees what went through unchallenged. Seize the day!

Aimless (Aimless), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:23 (twenty-one years ago)

It accepted I Want Ribs

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:25 (twenty-one years ago)

"Pass the Courvoisier"

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:27 (twenty-one years ago)

"Working Hard or Hardly Working?" was rejected.

hstencil, Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:28 (twenty-one years ago)

It's rejecting all of mine - even innocuous ones. I must be on some secret GWB enemies list. Excuse me, I'm getting paranoid.

Kerry (dymaxia), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:29 (twenty-one years ago)

no, gabbneb, i'm telling you that those signs look like Bush/Cheney signs unless you get close enough to read the tiny remarks. I'm telling you that they were obviously designed to make the customized part of the message the hardest to read and least important. The Bush campaign need not be bothered with what you put on those signs as long as you're carrying them around. I'm telling you that spending your time testing the filter to see what cutesy little smartass "Hail to the Chimp" message you can get it to accept is probably the least productive means of contributing to your cause short of running around stabbing people in the eye with your candidate's pin.

But please, don't let me spoil the fun.

Stuart (Stuart), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I tried using numbers in place of some of the letter and I still couldn't get, "G0D Invented A1DS to Cure FAGG0TS" to work. I cannot get any slogan to work either.

christhamrin (christhamrin), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:31 (twenty-one years ago)

you're really scared, aren't you Stuart?

Actually Stuart made a rather cogent point about how smart the make-your-own "(heh heh Bush looks like a chimp.. he sucks.. huh huh) BUSH/CHENEY '04" campaign is... especially for the "smart asses" that suck it all up.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:33 (twenty-one years ago)

"4 Years closer to Armageddon!" worked just fine.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:34 (twenty-one years ago)

(although, I wouldn't have explained myself further in such an elevated tone as Stuart just did)

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I got "Working Hard or Hardly Working" to work for me!

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

like anyone's actually going to go out in public with their "smartass" sign? only one person has actually conceived of that.

the point is that we're reveling in stuff like this because conventional wisdom has finally brought Bush to the point of ridicule, something he's going to have real trouble recovering from, and this upsets our gentle Stuart.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)

My parent's printing business made large Bush/Cheney signs for their campaign last time around. I am living off Bush/Cheney campaign coffers!

christhamrin (christhamrin), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:40 (twenty-one years ago)

like you'd need to print it - as kingfish shows above this is blog and e-mail fodder. rally the troops, laff at the other guy stuff. bushco's laying out roast beef for a left blog banquet. plus it's interactive! hella more 'effective' than 'omg there's cursewords on the kerry site!'

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Wait, you mean you guys aren't printing out 3' X 3' signs and sticking them in your yard?

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:43 (twenty-one years ago)

like anyone's actually going to go out in public with their "smartass" sign? only one person has actually conceived of that.

gab, never underestimate the stupidity of some of the left, just as much as some of the right.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

"He Loves Your Pain" works.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it hates "?" marks

LITTLE LAMB [Jon Williams] (ex machina), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Granted, I think this thread just exhibits the fact that ILXORs and other forums partaking in this exercise are just bored at their office jobs moreso than any grand political statement or manipulation.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:47 (twenty-one years ago)

"The Rapture Is Within Our Grasp!" works.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:49 (twenty-one years ago)

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 23:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 11 March 2004 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

"Listen To Your Friend, Billy Zane" works
"Withdrawal in disgust is not apathy" works (but the entire Slacker line won't fit)

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 11 March 2004 01:27 (twenty-one years ago)

for extra fun, try the following truisms by jenny holzer:

a relaxed man is not necessarily a better man
a sincere effort is all you can ask
absolute submission can be a form of freedom
abuse of power comes as no surprise
action causes more trouble than thought
ambivalence can ruin your life
anger or hate can be a useful motivating force
any surplus is immoral
anything is a legitimate area of investigation
at times inactivity is preferable to mindless functioning
awful punishment awaits really bad people
bad intentions can yield good results
being sure of yourself means you're a fool
categorizing fear is calming
change is valuable when the oppressed become tyrants
confusing yourself is a way to stay honest
decency is a relative thing
disgust is the appropriate response to most situations
disorganization is a kind of anesthesia
don't place to much trust in experts
drama often obscures the real issues
emotional responses ar as valuable as intellectual responses
enjoy yourself because you can't change anything anyway
expressing anger is necessary
fathers often use too much force
fear is the greatest incapacitator
freedom is a luxury not a necessity
government is a burden on the people
grass roots agitation is the only hope
habitual contempt doesn't reflect a finer sensibility
ignoring enemies is the best way to fight
inheritance must be abolished
it can be helpful to keep going no matter what
it is man's fate to outsmart himself
it's better to be naive than jaded
just believing something can make it happen
lack of charisma can be fatal
looking back is the first sign of aging and decay
low expectations are good protection
manual labor can be refreshing and wholesome
morals are for little people
mostly you should mind your own business
occasionally principles are more valuable than people
sacrificing yourself for a bad cause is not a moral act
sloppy thinking gets worse over time
sometimes science advances faster than it should
sometimes things seem to happen of their own accord
symbols are more meaningful than things themselves
taking a strong stand publicizes the opposite position
the cruelest disappointment is when you let yourself down
the family is living on borrowed time
thinking too much can only cause problems
to disagree presupposes moral integrity
true freedom is frightful
using force to stop force is absurd
violence is permissible even desirable occasionally
we must make sacrifices to maintain our quality of life
when something terrible happens people wake up
you are a victim of the rules you live by
you can't expect people to be something they're not
you can't fool others if you're fooling yourself
you owe the world not the other way around
your oldest fears are the worst ones

You can put all sorts of obscenities there, if you use some other tongue than English. It even accepted "Arbeit macht frei!".

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 11 March 2004 09:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, Brit English seems to work as well. At least "Wankers!" and "Bollocks!" were deemed okay.
