stevem (blueski), Thursday, 11 March 2004 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

worst possible day!

chris (chris), Thursday, 11 March 2004 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

return to new york has a somewhat less than positive reputation

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 11 March 2004 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

explain?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 11 March 2004 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah. This is already starting to look like A Bad Idea.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 11 March 2004 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

so...is it like, one song each?

piscesboy, Thursday, 11 March 2004 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I was actually thinking of it, my new years resolution to go out dancing more has been resolutely unimplemented, mostly due to feckin' poverty, but ne'er mind eh?

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 11 March 2004 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

return to new york has a somewhat less than positive reputation

like two of the most slimy untrustworty slimebags promoting it, maybe.

oh... did i say that?

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 11 March 2004 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh ethical clubbing big in 2004 :)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 11 March 2004 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

besides which, its Lost on 10th april

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 11 March 2004 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

could do both if Lost is further Sarf this time

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 11 March 2004 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

point taken, steve. i suppose the idea of the virtuous promoter is a bit of an oxymoron, but that's not going to stop me from bitching as arthur baker is to me as the dewaele brothers are to nathalie.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 11 March 2004 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm not really of baker's evilness myself but you have put me off a bit now ;) i really like this idea of doing two clubs that night anyway, not that i'll be able to stay awake beyond 3am probably

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 11 March 2004 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Fucking nutso line-up admittedly, but is it really gonna be possible to see more than, like, three of those over the night? There must be various rooms, no?

Either way, it's almost tempting me to put on my dancing trousers for the first time in ages, but I second RTNY's slightly dodgy holier-than-thou aren't-we-fuckin'-hipsters reputation.

Hmmm.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 11 March 2004 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I bet I am certainly holier than the majority of people there, after all, I went to LATIN MASS as a child (proved by science to be holier, fact fans).

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 11 March 2004 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

It's my birthday. Fuck off! Humph.

The River Kate (kate), Thursday, 11 March 2004 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, come to think of it, it'll be the first birthday in about 15 years that I haven't had to plan some mega-blow-out party whereby I get so stressed out organising and everything that I forget to actually enjoy the said party. Hrmmmmm.

The River Kate (kate), Thursday, 11 March 2004 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh Christ... I've just remembered that conversation we had last night. Fear.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 11 March 2004 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Get yer toga out, Matt! it was your idea after all!

The River Kate (kate), Thursday, 11 March 2004 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I deny all responsibility.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 11 March 2004 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Matt is a secret fratboy. An irresponsible one.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 11 March 2004 16:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah you can't prove holiness using SCIENCE

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 11 March 2004 16:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I would like to go maybe. I have to say though it is one of those lineups which terrifies you and confuses you in the end.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 11 March 2004 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

two weeks pass...
Yes but you can measure it, surely stevem?

(Gosh ILx Calendar is handy innit, I'd forgotten abt this)

Sarah (starry), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE

I had completely forgotten about my birthday quandary until this thread revival. Now I'm depressed again, and I don't even have Pink's Busted card to cheer me up by shouting at me to have a WICKED BUSTED BIRTHDAY.

Psycho Kate (kate), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

what did you have in mind for your birthday then? you could always FAP in the evening seeing as no-one's likely to go to this event until 11 or so. Or just have drinks on the Friday night?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I am having second thoughts about going to this altogether.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

why?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, cheers Kate.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

it will be fun speculating on which of the acts listed don't actually turn up. i might run a book...

stevem (blueski), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

(Never mind me, I've been bitching for days and will probably continue bitching until after my birthday, and besides, I didn't want a FAP anyway, I wanted a pyjama party, boo hoo hoo etc. etc. where is my birthday card when I need it? I should just bring it to work with me except my colleagues would laff...)

Psycho Kate (kate), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Incidentally this has nothing to Kate at all, and more to do with it being an IRL friend's birthday thing that night and being probably obliged to go to it. But on the other hand that lineup DOES look good... gah, how late can I leave this before deciding?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Kate - the card will be there when you get home, never fear! You gotta do summit for your b/day lady!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

late as you like matt, can hopefully blag you in

stevem (blueski), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

It makes me crack up laughing every time I even see it, let alone play the message. I don't believe it's them, I think it's just some people they had hanging around the card design studio. I mean, for a start, James is so clearly a girl.

(James Bourne, that is, not your James, of course!)

Psycho Kate (kate), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

My James just shook his head when I bought it!! heh heh! I must admit that James (your james) sounds a bit too squeaky to be crushworthy for me!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, he may talk like a girl, but he can sing like an angel...

::swoon::

I don't know what will happen to the band when his voice finally breaks...

(My James. Heh. What a thought!)

Psycho Kate (kate), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Well he is your crushee!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

If I got to claim every crushee I ever had as "mine" I'd own the world. Mwah hah hah hah!

Psycho Kate (kate), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

mwah hah hah hah....oh no wait!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

So so far it's just me and Sarah with Matt and Charlie as possibles. is that it?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Just Matt and Charlie? WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH JAMES?!?!?

Psycho Kate (kate), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

They called it a jealous rage in court.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

i think my friend nadia is djing the night as well, though she doesn't get fancy billing. anyone who goes should try to catch her as she's really really excellent and not half so scary as princess superstar. if you spot a young, dark-haired e'd up girl in a miniskirt behind the decks, that's her.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

she sounds nice...(cough)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I think this line up sounds great, I'll ask the boy what he's up to.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

she sounds nice...(cough)

she's very nice and has very nice records, but she's also got a wicked left hook that i'd watch out for.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

it will be fun speculating on which of the acts listed don't actually turn up. i might run a book...

Oh, incidentally, tenner on the Jungle Brothers please.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

ha ha, i think they're the ones most likely to turn up actually

lauren i've never been hit by a girl yet, but i'm not gonna finish that sentence cos it might sound creepy i expect

stevem (blueski), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd like to go but stick me down as a possible as well - no idea when I'll turn up either, it's far too early to be able to plan these things! I should take yr number or summat Steve so I can text yer up if I go?

Sarah (starry), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, fuck it, this will be much more fun than a night in the Wardour Street O'Neills with a load of people I've seen once in five years for a good reason.

Also, maybe we should Bull & GateFAP first. I hear there's a good band playing...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 08:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Kentish Town to London Bridge - avin a larf san...actually that's pretty easy but i'll still pass - but does this band tie in with the mystery cozenFAP guests or something?

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 08:28 (twenty-one years ago)

It is Dr C and friends bringing the rock, if you must know.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 08:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Kentish Town to London Bridge = piece of piss, anyway.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 08:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Decision made. I am SO gonna go.

Marianna L, Tuesday, 30 March 2004 08:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, it's perhaps a good thing that RTNY is in a non-hotel venue, I went to one about a year ago and wandered lonely as a cloud amongst the trustas.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 08:42 (twenty-one years ago)

when is the next good thing at the fortress?

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 08:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Ack bloody hell my dates are all mixed up... this isn't this Saturday at all, is it? So don't go to the Bull & Gate beforehand - that would be silly.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 09:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Silly MDC.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 09:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Dr C is friends with The Rock? Now THAT's namedropping for you.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 10:01 (twenty-one years ago)

they should do one of those SkyPlus adverts together

"What's that I can smell you cooking Dr C"

"Hang tough my stone-faced sidekick, it's just some fajitas for our Jake 2.0 marathon"

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Gareth, re Fortress it's a Weatherall jaunt over Easter weekend - and I owe you a sort-out.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 12:31 (twenty-one years ago)

URGENTO

I'm up for this Stevem

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 8 April 2004 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

If you throw in a plane ticket, you could be my best bud for life ;-).

Barima (Barima), Thursday, 8 April 2004 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Steve you have to see Black Wire. Rockin'.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 8 April 2004 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooo, dancin.

cis (cis), Thursday, 8 April 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

black wire were wearing very tight pants when i saw them, so i approve.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 8 April 2004 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Who are Black Wire?

I am coming to this now.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 8 April 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Also you have half an hour to suggest a decent pub near the venue. Is the club itself in the London Bridge area?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 8 April 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

they're from leeds. i only caught a few minutes of their set, so apart from pants approval i can't offer much of an opinion.

xpost

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 8 April 2004 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

just read that full line-up carefully - andy fletcher? WTF? i thought all he did for depeche mode was the paperwork. does he even know how to work a turntable??

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 8 April 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

meant to be "i just read...". oops

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 8 April 2004 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

LIVE ACCOUNTING!!! DOUBLE-ENTRY THREE DECKS!!!!

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 8 April 2004 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't knock it till ya tried it!

Super-Kate (kate), Thursday, 8 April 2004 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

So what's the scoop? Stevem did you get my email?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Saturday, 10 April 2004 13:02 (twenty-one years ago)

House music all night long.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Saturday, 10 April 2004 13:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Say what?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Saturday, 10 April 2004 13:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Girl I'll house you.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Saturday, 10 April 2004 13:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Unless my nose stops producing snot at a high rate of knots between now and tonight it's unlikely I'll be going to this. Have fun people.

Ricardo (RickyT), Saturday, 10 April 2004 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Lucky devils......

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 10 April 2004 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Lucky enough to pass it up totally. Looks like just me and Rob for this now...

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 10 April 2004 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

House it all over the place...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Saturday, 10 April 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

In the beginning there was...........................jack?

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 10 April 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a few others going aside from Stevem and I, isn't there?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Saturday, 10 April 2004 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

If not, I guess it's just us two going to jack our bodies.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Saturday, 10 April 2004 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

How exactly does one 'jack your body', anyway?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Saturday, 10 April 2004 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I dunno, I think it involves alot of back and hip work.

How does one get the key to the wiggly worm, I've been locked out of mine for years.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 10 April 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm still coming! Ur all larries.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 10 April 2004 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not precisley sure what jacking is, only that it is not Fleetwood Mac.

Ricardo (RickyT), Saturday, 10 April 2004 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Well... that sucked shit. That was the most enormous, confusing, frustrated, asymmetrically-coiffeured queue I've ever seen. But after half an hour or so of standing there and not making the slightest bit of progress I gave up - it was too close to the physical equivalent of Glasto ticket-buying for my liking.

I'm at home in the warm now stone-cold sober. Steve and Rob are probably still waiting. Good thing I'm in a good mood though...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 10 April 2004 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

You're not going to like to hear this Matt, but after you left the pace of the queue picked up a bit, and we got in. We had waited too long to give up at that point.

The place was crazy inside - absolutely huge, lots of "look at my style! I'm so NYC!" beautiful people, and a lot of house. We made it in time to see 2 Many DJs, and I did catch a bit of Todd Terry spinnin some classics. We left about 4.

I am currently VERY worried about my hearing. I could barely hear a thing when we left, and it's not much better today. Sounds like I've got a cardboard box on my head. Not good. And my head hurts. A lot. I know, I know - earplugs would have been smart. I never learn...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Sunday, 11 April 2004 10:33 (twenty-one years ago)

yeh we queued for over an hour but once inside it was pretty great, so big you could move around freely but the electro room was as packed as could be from halfway through Erol's storming set (he played his 'Higher State...' rework again and the place went mental - then he played 'Come As You Are') thru to 2 Many DJs. if anything i'd say the place was too big and there was too much going on - and for about the fifth time in the last year I've walked past Arthur Baker wondering who let that dishevelled hobo in...

another plus point: microwaved satay chicken - i finally got my hot meat on a stick desire to conjoin with propah clubbing bizness

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

ears still feel like i am in constant proximity to a motorway too - THE BASS THE BASS

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

say what?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Sunday, 11 April 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)
