Timaru vs Oamaru

This may be particularly pertinent to Dunedin people, who have to brave both places while travelling to that megatropolis Christchurch. Both are terrible to be stuck in if you are hitch hiking, and it's certainly an experience growing up in Oamaru anyway. So I want to know once and for all, is Timaru or Oamaru better?

For those of you unfamiliar with the ares, you can find out about Timaru here and Oamaru here

I can't really use HTML so I hope those links turned out ok. Enjoy your voyage of discovery

Timaru I believe to be more picturesque and it seems to have more dignity than Oamaru. In Oamaru, even the close proximity to the ocean does nothing to alleviate the lack of romance.

I could not find anything that truely caught and captured the glory of those two places, both members of the exclusive 'one of the seven hells on earth' society. thesre sites dont capture the grandeur and length of the main streets of both places, the bogans, the caroline bay country music comp, and the beauty pageant. Oamaru has people wandering round in victorian costume as a profession, three highschools and heaps of manky teens, lots of old people and dodgy oamaru stone art. Obviously I am more familiar with Oamaru.

Did the website show you the Oamaru stone double arch M sign outside of Mcdonalds? they decided to be culturally sensitive and ditch the nuclear yellow for our town.

Di, you must have something to add, I am forgetting to include so much stuff. inspire us. and tell Duane to elaborate on Timmiz please

i really don't have that much to say about oamaru. repressed memories. about all i remember of oamaru is one day i was gettin' it on with a boyfriend in the backseat of my parents car which was parked in the Oamaru Gardens, and some German tourists were watching us. which just about sums up Oamaru, i think. a bunch of horny bogans, and a bunch of tourists laughing at them.

i will try to get duane to contribute. i think he's having fun in christchurch though, so probably doesn't have time for ile no more. i will refrain from making jokes about him entering his second childhood.

yes, that right, Oamaru stinks of seaweed. I never thought of Timaru having more dignity than Oamaru though- Oamaru has more old people, and dignity is generally the province of people who are no longer attractive enough to misbehave gloriously. I thought Timaru wa more boganful.
