In order to avoid the disappointing turnout last time, this needs its own thread. So, details:

SAME AS LAST TIME. Meet in the Spread Eagle on Parkway in Camden at 2; by 2.30 we'll head to Primrose Hill. If you're going to be later than this, meet us where we play (imagine you're at the top of the hill, facing toward the view of London. Turn 90 degrees to your right and walk down that side of the hill to a relatively wide, flat area. We'll meet at the closest corner to the hill). Game will start at 3 at the latest.

Contact either me (O7771 65696I) or the Nipper (O7792 92284O) if you're going to be late, if you need directions, etc. etc.

MOST IMPORTANT - if you are going to play, sign below. I know this is anal, but hell. Feel free to bring friends.

Players:

1. Mark C

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:49 (twenty-one years ago)

2. The Nipper

(I fear we may lose out to those bastards at the FA who have scheduled their so-called semi-finals directly against us.)

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Are both semi-finals on at the same time? If one is later, perhaps we could compromise and end up in a pub for the latter?

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Sunderland v Tranmere Rovers or Millwall
Sunday 04 April 2004
Old Trafford
Kick-off 1.00pm

So actually people could watch and still come along for a 3pm kick off.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:57 (twenty-one years ago)

As long as they watched in a pub in Chalk farm, I suppose. Should we change our schedule to accomodate this?

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

3. Ken C

ken c (ken c), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, if we watch at the Spread Eagle, the game will end at 2.45, we could be at the Park by 3.15ish?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 12 March 2004 12:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Sounds good to me.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 12 March 2004 12:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope the mackems receive a good kicking from whoever

4. Fox C

Paul Field (foxeee), Friday, 12 March 2004 12:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll try to come to this one, if I'm feeling fit, but won't sign up now as I can't promise.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 12 March 2004 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I want to come, but also want to see man Yoo versus the Arse. What to do?

Gazza (daveb), Friday, 12 March 2004 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe watch it on saturday and then come to football on sunday?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 12 March 2004 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

the Arsenal v Man U semi-final has been moved to Saturday morning has it not?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 12 March 2004 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

doh

stevem (blueski), Friday, 12 March 2004 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Good spot people. I shall be there.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 12 March 2004 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i should be there

stevem (blueski), Friday, 12 March 2004 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

No, Steve, Dave. You say you'll DEFINITELY be there and we add you to the list.

5. Dave B
6. stevem

See?

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 12 March 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

When hard interweb footie manager Barry Lasagne says 'jump', you ask him, 'How high?' on the way up.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 12 March 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

In football mode Barry is The Kaiser.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 12 March 2004 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Right boss.

Sotto voce to Stevem

The new gaffer's a bit of a slave driver isn't he?

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 12 March 2004 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

(Apropos of nothing, did anyone else read Big Ron in the Guardian today? Sentences you never expected to read from Ron #1: "Fortunately in Shanghai we bumped into the Canadian women's gymnastic team...")

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 12 March 2004 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

he kicked a boot at me only last week. it really hurt.

stevem (blueski), Friday, 12 March 2004 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

why has Atkinson not been knighted yet?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 12 March 2004 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I think when we do away with the outdated honours system everyone should be dubbed 'Big' instead of Sir. "Arise Big Barry", for example.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 12 March 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

fnarrr

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 12 March 2004 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

are there any Sir Barry's? will there ever be?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 12 March 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=sir+barry

jel -- (jel), Friday, 12 March 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

The most 'famous' appears to be Sir Barry Curtis. It's a crying shame Barry Sheene was never knighted.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 12 March 2004 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

how about Geoff?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 12 March 2004 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Sir Geoff Hurst of course!

jel -- (jel), Friday, 12 March 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

oh man i thought his name was actually Surjeff

stevem (blueski), Friday, 12 March 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I will definitely come. Last week was great fun.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Friday, 12 March 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Stevem, are you confirming?

5. Boyle
6. m
7. Kicks

Greg & Pinefox to thread.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 12 March 2004 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

When hard interweb footie manager Barry Lasagne says 'jump' to me, I assume he's is offering me sex.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 12 March 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i think if Barry told you to 'get lost' you would still assume that Skidders

stevem (blueski), Friday, 12 March 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm confirming my appearance, for Baz picky purposes

stevem (blueski), Friday, 12 March 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I fear no provision has been made for the possibility of extra time in the non-glamour FACsf. I really, really want to see this if Tranmere are involved but am also morbidly curious about my own ability to run about and kick a pig's bladder in NW1 after years of doing neither.

Can I be a floating possible latecomer sub?

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Friday, 12 March 2004 20:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be there.

Sean Carter (roc), Thursday, 18 March 2004 00:07 (twenty-one years ago)

the jigga himself!

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 18 March 2004 01:43 (twenty-one years ago)

8 or 9, 10, lost count: Darren. Count me in to the exciting feat of fluid total football on the fourth.

darren (darren), Thursday, 18 March 2004 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

sure you don't want to have a kickabout with us instead?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 18 March 2004 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Count me in.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Thursday, 18 March 2004 13:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't make it, Mark - I'll be in Devon :( But cripple a winger for me!

(I actually understand the point of warming down now, I think I pulled a hamstring going to the pub after the last one, and walking sort of hurt for a week. This non-teenhood thing sucks).

Gregory Henry (Gregory Henry), Thursday, 18 March 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Greg, I'll thank you not to refer to winger-crippling. I haven't done that since the unfortunate ambulance incident and that was *years* ago.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 18 March 2004 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

8. Carter
9. Darren
10. Giraffe
11. Jones (as I'll nag him until he gives in)

Anyone else? We could do with at least three more definites...

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 18 March 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

or just challenge the people of camden with ILX-XI

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 18 March 2004 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

hello! am i too late to sign up? i fly back from barcelona on the 30th, so i canm make it now (thats why didnt sing up before)

the thing is, do you have some sort of audition? i mean, i dont think i would make the grade. whats the level? i dont think i can run further than 10 yrds wthout falling over at the moment.....

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 00:27 (twenty-one years ago)

just turn up on the day, or not - would be cool to see you again

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyone else? Should be pretty good with this kind of turnout.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 29 March 2004 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

once again i'll be turning up having just travelled back from another city.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 29 March 2004 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Shin pads should be banned as are boots. People get hurt innit.

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 1 April 2004 10:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Also no running and no kicking.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 1 April 2004 10:17 (twenty-one years ago)

football to be played solely through knowledge of the force.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 April 2004 10:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I am not not wearing boots if the field is muddy. And I need shinpads to protect me from the inevitable retaliations.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 1 April 2004 10:24 (twenty-one years ago)

so what is the updated list?? and should this be on the calendar?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 April 2004 10:28 (twenty-one years ago)

(updated list of players, that is!)

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 1 April 2004 10:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes! Calendar!

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 1 April 2004 10:39 (twenty-one years ago)

done and done

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 1 April 2004 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

so how about

12. ambrose
13. Tom H

???

ambrose (ambrose), Saturday, 3 April 2004 11:30 (twenty-one years ago)

So, are we definitely going to start the kickabout after the Millwall vs Sunderland match? At least we're not going to have to battle with the twilight. I'm up for this. So the Spread Eagle on Parkway for the TV game, then 3.15 (or 3.45 if the game goes to extra time) on the pitchy bit of Primrose Hill.

Markelby (Mark C), Saturday, 3 April 2004 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

12. The Pinefox

too

will battle

with the twilight

the pinefox, Saturday, 3 April 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Might pop along later to shout things like 'come on you chaps'

Ed (dali), Sunday, 4 April 2004 08:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Daniel (Japanese Giraffe) and I will be in the Spreadeagle from 1pm for the Millwall kick-off - I'm the bloke in the red CCCP shirt (if its not too cold).

darren (darren), Sunday, 4 April 2004 10:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry to miss this - I'm afraid I'm having a bad weekend, for no reason I can discern.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 4 April 2004 10:26 (twenty-one years ago)

i am late for this but should make it to the pub before the end of the match...

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 4 April 2004 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Me too.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Sunday, 4 April 2004 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

OH MY GOD I AM BROKEN

pulled what feels like a larger muscle in my back so am walking around like an old man. almost couldn't get out of bed this morning and thinking i probably shouldn't have. legs feel a bit jellyish as well. weird thing is i felt fine last night if tired but may have strained back whilst eating fried chicken on the sofa at a foolish angle. it's just like having loads to drink and feeling fine until you wake up next day, not that i got a lot of sleep in the end what with the twinges.

so, same time in a few weeks? (can't do any until the second week of May tho personally)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 5 April 2004 08:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I wouldn't worry Steve, I did my back in fishing

chris (chris), Monday, 5 April 2004 08:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you okay, Chris? It won't affect the wedding, will it? I hope you put it out while reeling in a record-breaking pike or something.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 5 April 2004 08:54 (twenty-one years ago)

this really hurts, maybe that spray would help

stevem (blueski), Monday, 5 April 2004 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

The footie was great fun, btw. Ambrose and Daniel in particular showed what ILX might be able to achieve should the vaunted Sinister rematch ever take place. Man of the Match is a tricky one - Jerry the Nipper's astonishing overhead kick was quite something, as was James's thunderbolt goal. I kind of disqualified myself with two own goals.

But on balance I'm giving my vote to Ambrose, who disappeared into the rain as the game finished, thus retaining his mystery along with his sterling performance.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 5 April 2004 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

No, just twistind and slouching, but it's not too bad, it'll be gone in a couple of days.

I did have my brand new brollie explode violently due to a big gust of wind though :o(

chris (chris), Monday, 5 April 2004 08:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Stop eating horses, then!

Mooro (Mooro), Monday, 5 April 2004 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Aww, that's Ambrose for you.

Ed and I *tried* to hook up with footballers but were late (birthday meal for Ed's brother) and were even bringing the players CAVIAR! (seriously).

suzy (suzy), Monday, 5 April 2004 10:33 (twenty-one years ago)

ah yes sorry if i was a bit vague on the phone to Ed but i wasn't sure what the plan was once we abandoned football due to heavy rain - ended up in the Albert for a few beers trying desperately to resist ordering ALL of their 5 choices of pudding...then ken and i got sort-of-lost in the Chalk Farm Safeway car park, he won £5 on a fruit machine in a pub we'd only popped in to to use the lav and the 29 took us home, and that was that. i am feeling the pain today as described upthread. woe.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 5 April 2004 10:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Everything below the waist is starting to seize up. The next 48 hours will be great fun.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 5 April 2004 10:40 (twenty-one years ago)

My hot bath last night didn't work. Legs-a-seizing.

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 5 April 2004 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)

CAVIAR?!

I phoned the gaffer on his mobile, and he agreed it was ridiculous (Matt DC), Monday, 5 April 2004 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

We had a load left over from the birthday lunch and such exquisite luxuries are just the ticket for ye footballers! Waste not, want not!

suzy (suzy), Monday, 5 April 2004 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I can only agree: it was an excellent game and a lot of fun. My man of the match would have to be Pat Nevin Dancity, for his movement, vision and deft little touches in the middle of the park.

The Italian restaurant two doors down from the Albert was very nice too. They had a £90 bottle of wine on their menu and a meal involving "monk's beard".

When's the next game, then?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 5 April 2004 10:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Good grief, with all these injuries and aches and pains it's a good thing this unfit old man didn't turn up - I probably wouldn't have survived.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 5 April 2004 11:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Warming down properly after the game is U&K. Baz taught me this, and seemed to have done so pretty comprehensivly yesterday, so I can only imagine his subnavel seizure is due to OTHER THINGS.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 5 April 2004 11:04 (twenty-one years ago)

It was a fine game, for sure, although by the time of the last goal, and the diagonal rain, my fuel indicator had long since been screaming 'empty'. Playing the 'infinite width principle', as you do in parks, is an absolute killer. My man of the match was my team in the first half (of the first game) - we played some lovely stuff. At the risk of getting sentimental, the best part of the day was meeting you all and putting faces to names, etc. Possibly see you on Thursday, but it's passover and I'm off the beer this week, so I may leave it til next time.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Monday, 5 April 2004 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha no. It's not nearly as bad as last time (yet), so hopefully my warming down did help, though it's hard to do proper stretches in the pub.

Dan, come along to the pub on Thursday!

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 5 April 2004 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, not all of us will be drinking.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 5 April 2004 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

What Daniel Giraffe said, essentially; re the meetings, greetings, the first-half beatings and indeed the passover-related abstainings. Myself, will be absent on Thursday as I'll be at Heathrow on the way to Tokyo, but will see thee all next time, and hopefully will get those thighs in full clanking order.

darren (darren), Monday, 5 April 2004 11:57 (twenty-one years ago)

That's two consecutive weekends of tremendous muscular pain and impaired mobility due to outdoor exertion. It's got to be better than a bad back through slouching on art-deco-but-not-really-comfy sofa for 48 hours. It hurts SO GOOD.

If anyone outside the group is interested, Darks beat Lights 5-4 and Sarf London beat Norf London 2-1 (though we had eight minutes left on the clock when the rain forced us to trudge off). I neither distinguished nor disgraced myself with my usual Nyarko-like application and graft. 10-year-old badminton pumps don't work on muddy grass though. I claim a sub-assist for supplying Boyler with the pass which led to his cross for JtN's opener in the Thameslink Playoff.

Wharra cracking bunch of lads.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Monday, 5 April 2004 12:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Sarf types seem to be taller on average

stevem (blueski), Monday, 5 April 2004 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Hein?

Shortarsed runt (daveb), Monday, 5 April 2004 12:19 (twenty-one years ago)

It's genetics, they can also run faster. Plus have natural riddim and bigger bollocks.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 5 April 2004 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

racist

stevem (blueski), Monday, 5 April 2004 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

south londoners would make very bad walls for freekicks with them bollocks of theirs.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 5 April 2004 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

had a great time - both of those south londoner goals were saveable really (sorry guys!) we could have won, but then again actually all the goals were scored by them (including the one goal for us!)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 5 April 2004 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

yeh it was my shot that went in off Barry's foot

stevem (blueski), Monday, 5 April 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I couldn't believe the diff in stature when the North lined up against the South. What do they feed you down there?

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

North London babies.

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I should have turned up to redress the balance

chris (chris), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

as well as being taller, mark c of the south even had an extra nipple than the average man!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

South London had both the Boyler and myself - both under 5'9"! Stop yer whining!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm only just under 5'9"

Paranoid about height? (daveb), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)
