GO HEELS!!! BURN IN HELL DOOK!!!

quincie, Friday, 12 March 2004 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like to use Yahoo!, but only because I won last year, & don't wanna jinx myself. I imagine ESPN might be a better free bracket/group provider.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 12 March 2004 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Happiness reigns in Cincinnasty cuz the only good thing here is our Muskies and Bearcats.

quincie, Friday, 12 March 2004 20:55 (twenty-two years ago)

GT's gonna be tough in the tourney - I saw them earlier this year against UConn (then ranked #1 - pshaw), and they manhandled the Huskies. Tenacious D. And bongs of righteous boo.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 12 March 2004 21:11 (twenty-two years ago)

help me help me they are LOSING!

quincie, Friday, 12 March 2004 21:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Final Four: Robert Morris, Prairie View, Brown, Univ. of Phoenix

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 12 March 2004 23:50 (twenty-two years ago)

NIT Champion: St. John's (NM)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 12 March 2004 23:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Indiana is out of the tournament for the first time since '85 and have suffered their first losing season since '70 (AKA before The General). It has not been a good year.

Like last year, if Kentucky had a true scorer, they would win in all. They play amazing defense at times and are overall quite solid, but their team shooting is very streaky.

I think it is pretty wide open to who is going to win it all.

earlnash, Saturday, 13 March 2004 04:37 (twenty-two years ago)

ha, good, i hate indiana. and iowa. and michigan. and syracuse. and uconn. and notre dame. and kansas. and wisconsin-milwaukee.

Broheems (diamond), Sunday, 14 March 2004 23:36 (twenty-two years ago)

what the fuck. wisconsin #6 and illinois #5? how did maryland get a #4 with 11 losses? and 24-3 utah state didnt even get in?

phil-two (phil-two), Sunday, 14 March 2004 23:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Big Ten got the smackdown this year, that's for sure. Maryland's really been peaking lately, but yeah that seed seems pretty generous.

Illinois well-represented though: Illinois, UIC, SIU, and DePaul. I guess we might as well claim Valpo too. That Illinois-UIC game should be great.

Broheems (diamond), Monday, 15 March 2004 00:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay Gonzaga gets NO respect. They should so be the #2 seed in the West. Shameful.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 15 March 2004 01:05 (twenty-one years ago)

2nd round matchup for Illinois against Cincinnati AT Columbus, Ohio? Uh-oh. Though maybe they'll get upset by ETSU.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 15 March 2004 01:11 (twenty-one years ago)

When does Cinci *not* get upset?

Broheems (diamond), Monday, 15 March 2004 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

i wonder if there's ever been a white guy on the cincinnati bearcats.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 15 March 2004 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

ALex, Gonzaga IS the #2 seed. Or did you mean #1?

Broheems (diamond), Monday, 15 March 2004 01:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha the life of a Cincinnati fan is full of tragedies.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 15 March 2004 01:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Well they should be the a #1 seed, but if you are going to drop them to #2 at least give them #2 so they get some games closer to home!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 15 March 2004 01:17 (twenty-one years ago)

gonzaga lose to michigan state, i think. i hope.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 15 March 2004 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm hoping for a good showing by Sparty myself, but they really should have beat Wisconsin.

Broheems (diamond), Monday, 15 March 2004 01:32 (twenty-one years ago)

wisconsin got the shaft so hard. when it comes to bracketology, dont fuk with me.

juiceboxxx (juiceboxxx), Monday, 15 March 2004 01:57 (twenty-one years ago)

word up. that win over illinois was pure gangsta, how about devin harris dunking on the alley at the end of the game, take that you flatlanders...only to be "rewarded" with a #6. but...it's IN MILWAUKEE! it's a home game, just about, the whole badger team is from milwaukee!

Haikunym (Haikunym), Monday, 15 March 2004 02:59 (twenty-one years ago)

yea playing in milwaukee should be pretty sweet, tho i would of probably taken a higher seed and a neutral setting just cuz the 6-11 upset happens way more than say 3-14

juiceboxxx (juiceboxxx), Monday, 15 March 2004 03:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Wisconsin at #6 is indeed a joke. While I'd otherwise say Richmond is precisely the type of low-seed one doesn't want, the wrath of ill-seeding combined with homer crowd should make this 6-11 upset impossible.

Spider (Hunter), Monday, 15 March 2004 07:13 (twenty-one years ago)

"wisconsin got the shaft so hard."

That's OK. I think Wisconsin will get their revenge.

Do people really think that St. Joseph is THAT good? Come on, the A-10 isn't as competitive a conference as the MAC.

earlnash, Monday, 15 March 2004 11:16 (twenty-one years ago)

The last 1:30 of the UAB/UK game was glorious. The last couple minutes of the UNC game were atrocious (for UNC - like, basketball is a TEAM sport or something, y'know) (& figure out where the 3-point line is, McCants). The entirety of the Wisconsin / Pitt game was exhilarating and exhausting, which was NICE given I thought it would be an NBA-esque Magic/Suns brickfest. I only wish I saw the last bit of the NC State game, just so I could flip out re: the "intentional foul". And sweet crap did Xavier shoot 80% for the game?

Best ILX-related NCAA moment = Teeny IMs me after the games yesterday, saying "dood your bracket is fuXor'd", assuming I had Kentucky & Stanford going to the F4 like everyone else. Ha ha ha! G-G-G-G-G-G G(Tech) UNIT! (Note: I am probably still fuXor'd.)

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 22 March 2004 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the officials just got tired of calling fouls on UAB, cuz for awhile they were some fouling motherfuckers, so finally the officials were just like "fuck it, PLAY BAWL".

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 22 March 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Have you guys used the "scenario generator" function. That's the greatest time waster ever! Despite KY losing, I'm creeping up on yas.

Quote of the weekend:
"I thought we could bang. I thought we could hang."

Complaint of the weekend:
Could we speed things up a bit? There's waaaaaay too many commercials.

Hunter (Hunter), Monday, 22 March 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

hooray! i'm tied for 2nd and kicking the asses of the entire haikunym family! unfortunately, i had stanford beating gonzaga in the final and miss state joining them in the final four, so my brackets are fucked and i'll be watching y'all zoom by me.

the officiating has sucked. i don't think it's been unfair, just bad. let's go duke!

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah - the Gonzaga game (early on, at least) was horribly officiated, and there was a REALLY questionable call in the Maryland game involving Gilchrist (sic?) down in the post about halfway into the 2nd half that undoubtedly cost the Terps the game.

But if you want BAD officiating, you should've seen the Women's Tourney game between Minnesota & UCLA. Minnesota's center (their best player) already w/ 4 fouls & about 3 minutes left in the game goes up for a rebound over the back of a UCLA player, comes down with the ball, then slips, loses the ball, & creams the Bruin she climbed. YOU MAKE THE CALL - was it traveling? or was it a blatant over-the-back foul? or MAYBE it was, as the ref saw it, a foul on the UCLA player for trying to box out?!!??!?!

That game was especially tough, as it was essentially a Gopher home game, yet UCLA (the lower seed) lead throughout. Up until that point, that is. Yeah, there's a point where you just have to suck it up & just win baby, but it'd be nice if the officials didn't take such an active role in passive-agressive turning-point management.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

ties for 8th. ugh. i need wake forest and illinois to make the final four to have a chance. which means im fucked.

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

oh no mookieproof you are NOT gonna trashtalk my kids, nuh-UNH

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 04:35 (twenty-one years ago)

talk about diaper-dandies!

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 08:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Delonte West is not a pretty man.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 26 March 2004 05:43 (twenty-one years ago)

He's really striking looking, I think. He's got the blankest expression I've ever seen. As I was watching, I kept trying to imagine what he would sound like, and decided that he is mute.

Curse you OK St.

Hunter (Hunter), Friday, 26 March 2004 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i think he's fantastic looking! i don't think he's mute either, but i was wondering the same thing (i decided very soft-spoken). that was the first st. joe's game i saw and he was better than jameer.

John (jdahlem), Friday, 26 March 2004 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

No way! Nelson rocks. I don't know if I've ever seen anyone with the quickness and moves like he has. If he can learn how to shoot even better he could be a souped up version of Damon Stoudamire.

Bob Dobalena, Friday, 26 March 2004 19:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, am I the ONLY person who saw Xavier getting this far? I have no chance of winning, but I'm feeling pretty good about my Musketeers. Now all they have to do is beat Duke hahahahaha

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Saturday, 27 March 2004 03:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I almost picked Xavier to go elite 8, but I chickened out. I sorta hate them, but to see an A10 team go far is gratifying.

I am amending my description of Delonte West. His expression isn't "blank", it's "serene."

After looking at the scenario generator, I have TOTALLY changed my tune about OK State. The ONLY way that I can win this joint is if OK State wins it all. So, Duke and OK State, don't let me down. GO GO GO!

Hunter (Hunter), Saturday, 27 March 2004 06:18 (twenty-one years ago)

fuck duke

phil-two (phil-two), Saturday, 27 March 2004 07:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow! I think Julia might have a lock on this thing.

All I can say is - go Xavier!

Broheems (diamond), Saturday, 27 March 2004 09:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn but UConn looks good.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Saturday, 27 March 2004 23:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Yup. Really beating some azz right now. Why oh why didn't I go with them instead of KY?

Broheems (diamond), Saturday, 27 March 2004 23:17 (twenty-one years ago)

There sure are a lot of red lines in my brackets.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Saturday, 27 March 2004 23:40 (twenty-one years ago)

ST JOE FUCKOS

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 28 March 2004 01:10 (twenty-one years ago)

HOLY SHIT woohoo OK State! I totally thought they were going to lose from the way they played the first half... (xp)

JuliaA (j_bdules), Sunday, 28 March 2004 01:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh my god, what a shot! What a game!

I cried when John Lucas and his dad were hugging at the end of the game. Weird. I never cry at shit like that.

Broheems (diamond), Sunday, 28 March 2004 01:15 (twenty-one years ago)

My fill the brackets from the inside out is paying off. I've got my two teams in the final game both in the final four. If Texas would have just won the stupid thing last year, I could have made some real money.

I've got a BAAADDD feeling about Duke. I really, really don't want them to win it all. I've got issues with those people.

St. Josephs is a better team than I gave them credit, that back court is about as good as it gets in the NCAA. Take out this year, the A-10 still hasn't done much in the tournament in the past ten years.

earlnash, Sunday, 28 March 2004 03:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, I know they won and that Lucas hit those two big baskets at the end, but: why is John Lucas flinging up 20 shots (he made 7) when the big guy is 7 of 8 from the floor? Why was Ok State playing a guard's game with St Joe's? Pound the damn ball inside.

That said, their victory means that I at least got one Final Four team right--ugh. GO DUKE

mookieproof (mookieproof), Sunday, 28 March 2004 04:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Xavier looking good!! They just might have a chance against the great Satan. *crossing fingers*

Broheems (diamond), Sunday, 28 March 2004 22:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Xavier getting jobbed!! Fuck these refs man.

Broheems (diamond), Sunday, 28 March 2004 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Xavier: 16 of 23 from the line, committed 21 personal fouls
Duke: 16 of 20 from the line, committed 23 personal fouls

= not jobbed

ugly game, though

mookieproof (mookieproof), Monday, 29 March 2004 01:20 (twenty-one years ago)

!!!!!

Broheems (diamond), Sunday, 4 April 2004 00:16 (twenty-one years ago)

The last five minutes was among the greatest college b-ball finishes I've ever seen. Even with the pass-out-of-bounds / travel gaffe exchange between the two teams. OSU free throw shooting really hurt. Really wanted to see Sutton and Lucas make it to the final.

Man. Sports rule.

Broheems (diamond), Sunday, 4 April 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn it. Nice last shot, however.

Sym (shmuel), Sunday, 4 April 2004 00:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Tech definitely earned it. That guy took it in strong .. tough play.

Still can't believe Lucas took that shot from where he did. That guy is fun to watch.

Broheems (diamond), Sunday, 4 April 2004 00:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Strange to think this is Ga Tech's first ever Finals appearance.

Aaron A., Sunday, 4 April 2004 00:37 (twenty-one years ago)

That was an amazing comeback.

Sym (shmuel), Sunday, 4 April 2004 04:10 (twenty-one years ago)

It is always great watching Duke lose, in a way even better the further into the tournament they go, the big risk is that they just might win it all.

Okafor's block on Deng in the latter part of the game was freaking unbelievable.

earlnash, Sunday, 4 April 2004 04:17 (twenty-one years ago)

if duke wasn't the underdog, it might've been ok.

as collegiate titans go, i think duke is a relatively pleasant one to be suffering under. miami football - now there's a program worthy of your schadenfreude.

anyone else think the tv timeouts make these games very nearly unwatchable?

John (jdahlem), Sunday, 4 April 2004 04:29 (twenty-one years ago)

God that might have been the best final four saturday I've ever watched. What a weird game, with Okafor going down and Uconn giving up that 11 point lead at the beginning!!

It is always great watching Duke lose, in a way even better the further into the tournament they go, the big risk is that they just might win it all.

haha, yeah - this is so OTM. Loved it when they lost to UConn the first time. That 9 point spread or whatever was a joke.

if duke wasn't the underdog, it might've been ok.

Yeah, and how about the fact that Duhon's meaningless desperation three at the end meant UConn didn't cover!! A lot of guys wanting to commit suicide right now....

anyone else think the tv timeouts make these games very nearly unwatchable?

Pretty sure they haven't added anything beyond the standard couple of set TV timeouts. But what they are doing - every time there is a 30 second timeout they go to commercial. Whereas they used to discuss the game, fill time, set the scene, etc.. Now they try to weasel in a quick 30 second commercial. It's totally annoying.

Broheems (diamond), Sunday, 4 April 2004 04:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, this will sound like sour grapes since I'm a Duke fan, but: that was the worst officiating I can recall seeing in a Final Four game. It wasn't unfair, but Jesus--Okafor shouldn't have to sit half the game, Duke's three big men shouldn't wind up with 14 fouls among them, etc. Some of the fouls by the Duke guys were stupid reach-ins (props to Schenscher for not doing that kind of stuff), but in general there were just a lot of soft calls both ways. Let Them Play!

P.S. Why didn't Villanueva play more? He's kind of awesome.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Sunday, 4 April 2004 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Villanueva not playing more = he's a defensive liability. Duke could've given Deng the ball w/ Charlie guarding him, one upfake later, there's either 2/3 on the board, or a UConn foul.

Only one more game left in the Taleik Brown era, thank you-know-who.

David R. (popshots75`), Sunday, 4 April 2004 19:04 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, Taleik's all good.

And having UConn alum (Donyell!) & everyone on the floor = classic!

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 02:43 (twenty-one years ago)

That waz a blowout.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 02:46 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah. sucks. i hate uconn

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 02:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I like em.... much better than Duke anyway.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 02:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Are they serious about this montage?

C0L1N B3CK3TT (Colin Beckett), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 03:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Was that Luther singing "One Shining Moment"?

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 03:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Indeed it was.

What a dud of a game. How did Ok State lose to GT? Weird.

What's up with "M.O.P."? Does that mean "most outstanding player"? Is that like some stupid NCAA shit? LIke, "OK, CBS, we'll let you pay us TEN BILLION dollars to broadcast the tournament, but you must agree not to use the wordage 'most valuable player'. Because here at the NCAA, we don't approve of monetary equivalences in reference our young athletes."

Broheems (diamond), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 03:21 (twenty-one years ago)

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 03:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't even watch! Bring on the NBA playoffs!

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 09:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Yay NBA playoffs! Time to start a thread me thinks.
