I'm going to Dublin for a conference at Trinity College (March 30-April 4) and it would seem that affordable accomodation is simply unavailable. Does anyone have any suggestions?

cybele (cybele), Friday, 12 March 2004 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

well, can you sleep through french house?

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 12 March 2004 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

haha mark! I'm not that well up to be honest, Andrew or DV?

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 12 March 2004 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

the time's not good for me, I'm afraid.

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 12 March 2004 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Are there no hostels or things? I live with my parents so can't really accomodate you I'm afraid.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 12 March 2004 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Geez...I didn't want to insinuate that I wanted to be put up, but thanks for trying!...I'm just wondering if anyone knows of cheap accomodation (i.e. not 50 euros a night for one person--this seems to be the ballpark)

cybele (cybele), Friday, 12 March 2004 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

the streets of dublin seemed relatively safe to me when i was there.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 12 March 2004 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

it was kind of like a very large open air shopping mall.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 12 March 2004 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

come back and I'll batter you

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 12 March 2004 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

actually I doubt I can back that up

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 12 March 2004 19:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Jess VS Ronan would be awesome. I'm bet I could get about 12 people to sign up for the Pay-Per-View coverage!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 12 March 2004 19:13 (twenty-two years ago)

is this one of those much feted "donnybrooks"?

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 12 March 2004 19:14 (twenty-two years ago)

we just need 3 rounds Ronan!! then you get your 10 million

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 12 March 2004 19:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Jess would so totally try to bite your ear off.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 12 March 2004 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

actually i just realized ronan could have also been referring to coating my body in a substance and deep frying me as well

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 12 March 2004 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

of course i'm more of a scottish delicacy

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 12 March 2004 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I still find your "donnybrook" reference odd.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 12 March 2004 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

do you hate your own language?

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 12 March 2004 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Dublin 2004 != Surrey 1888

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 12 March 2004 19:27 (twenty-two years ago)

i defy you to show me how it ISNT

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 12 March 2004 19:27 (twenty-two years ago)

English is not my language smart ass.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 12 March 2004 19:28 (twenty-two years ago)

The Thrilla in, uh, Dublin!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 12 March 2004 19:28 (twenty-two years ago)

look you all just take your david holmes cd's and your shamrock shakes and your caged lemurs and your soda bread and stuff it up your arses

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 12 March 2004 19:28 (twenty-two years ago)

david holmes should be made into a milkshake.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 12 March 2004 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

it would surely be an eclectic mix of flavors

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 12 March 2004 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I would drink him, if only to stop him winning best "dance" in the mag I write for ever again.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 12 March 2004 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

What's the aftertaste like on a Holmes cocktail anyway? Peaty?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 12 March 2004 22:28 (twenty-two years ago)

ah, shure aren't we a helpful lot just the same.

cybele, Dublin isn't a cheap place to stay, but there are one or two newish hotels in the city centre that might be OK. This one is nearish to where I live and seems reasonably priced, although I don't know how nice or otherwise it is.

rener (rener), Saturday, 13 March 2004 20:55 (twenty-two years ago)

three years pass...

I realise this is a bit demanding, but is there likely to be anywhere within shortish walking distance of St. Stephen's Green with a hotel which would be a) quiet and b) possible to book a room at very short notice? Thanks!

(Obviously the cheaper the better, but if it's at all possible somewhere quiet would be the main thing - nearly everywhere we've found on tripadvisor has had people complaining about being kept awake all night by noisy drunks, and I'll be with someone who gets very anxious in that sort of situation. Unfortunately that makes them not want to take any night buses/trams or walk very far across an unfamiliar city either. I'm slightly alarmed by the prices I'm seeing but will happily pay extra if it means a worry-free night's sleep for the person who'll be driving me halfway across Ireland the next day...)

Err, whoops, you can disregard this, apparently we've booked somewhere shockingly expensive now, so I can only hope that will buy us some quiet.
