Donald Pleasence S/D

Thread inspired because we're watching Telefon tonight and Pleasence plays a Russian mad bomber who's setting off human Manchurian Candidates, however the recent Escape From New York thread reminded me of his great bit at the end when (as the US President) he machine guns the Duke Of New York.

Anyway, he's already k-classic. List your fave Donald Pleasence roles.

I'm awaiting for Ned to mention Puma Man

Cul De Sac in general

absolutely SUBLIME batshit nearly incomprehensible Pleasance in the bizarre early 80's slasher film Alone In The Dark

My fave Pleasence perf = his 'eccentric' copper in 'Death Line' (aka 'Raw Meat').

I saw him in a stage production of the Caretaker not long before he died.

"I'm waiting for Ned to mention Puma man"

Pronouncing "Puma" as "Pew-ma" = classic.

A joy and a wonder to behold, but let us not forget his other MST3K star turn as evil dictator Prosser in Warrior of the Lost World. Not as ridiculously flamboyant but still great.

"Prepare her...for the Assembly Line."

Search - the 1963 film version, starring DP, Robert Shaw, Alan Bates, directed by Clive Donner, cinematography by Nic Roeg.

Also S - his performance in The Great Escape (DP really was a POW in WW2).

Classic! He could be my favorite actor ever.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Saturday, 13 March 2004 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Classic, definitely. My gran lived next door to some of his relatives.

(and she went to the same church as John Hurt's sister. Wow, celeb connections!)

(that wasn't meant as a comment on tep's choice but as a choice in itself)

Halloween!
THX1138!

Donald Pleasence as Blowfeld in "You Only Live Twice" is the genesis of Dr. Evil.

tep OTM - that film is so fucking classic, easily as good as the "cat from outer space" or the frankly overrated "incredible mr. limpet"

vahid (vahid), Sunday, 14 March 2004 01:27 (twenty-two years ago)

eleven months pass...
"Death Line" more than seconded; a stupendous film, made so in large part by Pleasence's wonderful turn as the detective. Great comic playing with notable gravitas, too.
