You never seem to grow out of them.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 14 March 2004 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

(but you're right anyway)

^ these things were so much fun. I had a really high deck on the top of a huge hill with a long sloping yard and we could throw these so far!

LITTLE LAMB [Jon Williams] (ex machina), Sunday, 14 March 2004 22:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Every LEGO set ever.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Sunday, 14 March 2004 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I have grown out of things. Mainly barbies and cartoons, with the exception of the Simpsons and King of the Hill.

What were those little figurines that would display an element when you put your finger over the heat activated thing so you would see who would win in a fight? Those ruled.

Also, how about those pink pencil eraser colored tiny figurines? What were those?

LITTLE LAMB [Jon Williams] (ex machina), Sunday, 14 March 2004 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Those marble things were pretty fun!

Anyone remember the Go-Bots walker that looked like the walker from the Empire Strikes Back? It had a motion detector!

LITTLE LAMB [Jon Williams] (ex machina), Sunday, 14 March 2004 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

A Nairn, what's that weird pirate-head-horrible-ball-squidge thing? I had that!

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Sunday, 14 March 2004 23:35 (twenty-two years ago)

it's a mad ball, there were lots of 'em

"Also, how about those pink pencil eraser colored tiny figurines? What were those? "

they were called muscle men, originally a manga from Japan called niku (something).
(I tried seaching google images for "muscle man toy" but too many pictures that I didn't want to see came up)

winterland, Monday, 15 March 2004 10:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Man O Man. 57 7th just caused me to have major flashbacks with that handheld Donkey Kong thing. That game was a serious addiction for me...

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 15 March 2004 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Yea, what was the deal with that ^ Alex? How did it work?

LITTLE LAMB [Jon Williams] (ex machina), Monday, 15 March 2004 17:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Well it didn't really work in that it didn't really do anything. I was basically a die-cut panorama of various Marvel buildings like Dr.Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum (or whatever), the Baxter Building from the Fantastic Four, and....er...other buildings whose names I can't remember, like the Avengers' mansion and whatnot. Coolest building was Dr.Strange's, as it featured a portal into "the Negative Zone" (or whatever it was called).

Starcom is the best call yet, Jon.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Monday, 15 March 2004 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

MAGNETS!

LITTLE LAMB [Jon Williams] (ex machina), Monday, 15 March 2004 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

More than magnets, they had REAL VISORS on their HELMETS.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Monday, 15 March 2004 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Lego got good when they started having REAL VISORS. sadly this was when I was about 11, and therefore just growing out of Lego.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Monday, 15 March 2004 18:40 (twenty-two years ago)

It was really cool with StarCom how you could put the little craft inside the yellow crates and let other stuff carry them.

LITTLE LAMB [Jon Williams] (ex machina), Monday, 15 March 2004 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

My brother used to leave his Starcom figure stuck to the refrigerator with the little magnets on its feet.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 15 March 2004 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Rob, thanks for posting the girder and panel thing (aka Kenstruct). I'm ordering a set on eBay now and I'm going to build my own Seagram Building!

I used to have that "Jaws" set and "Big Trak" - they were both great! My shark doubled as a spaceship after a while. What was that game with the castle in the centre of the round board? That's so vaguely familiar...

That kid's too young to see the Alien films. Mind you, I saw them when I was about 9, so...

Bodrick III, Thursday, 1 May 2008 22:27 (seventeen years ago)

the 1979 alien figure flopped big time, for that reason

latebloomer, Thursday, 1 May 2008 22:28 (seventeen years ago)

I've got a slightly clunky-looking Alien figure from years ago. When you press a button on its back, it explodes into pieces. Then it's a right bugger to put back together.

James Morrison, Thursday, 1 May 2008 23:31 (seventeen years ago)

I'm currently after one of those stuffed-toy face-hugger aliens.

krakow, Friday, 2 May 2008 21:25 (seventeen years ago)

I though the Alien movies were restricted from kids that age? Maybe all they could do was play with the toy then.

Tuomas, Saturday, 3 May 2008 09:39 (seventeen years ago)

Whoops, someboy already pointed that out... I must've been around 9 too when I first saw those movies.
