Well, looks like I have the whole week off work...what shall I do?

The school is on spring break and I couldn't get any temp work for this week, so it looks like I'm on enforced vacation. The fact that I have very little money is somewhat less painful as the Bay Area heatwave is staying at around 70 and I already have intentions to make it to Dizzee, Luomo, and the Rephlex thing in the next 5 or 6 days.

What else should I do? polish the floors? gardening?

Write the great American novel from an immigrant's standpoint, sell millions and be praised on NPR talk shows for your 'witty, outsider's perspective on what makes America what it is.' Use a fluke opportunity to appear on the Tonight Show when the dog trainer cancels to call for Bush to be beheaded on live TV. Escape in the confusion.

LITTLE LAMB [Jon Williams] (ex machina), Sunday, 14 March 2004 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Jon, I'd go for the Sunday, but that's one hell of a commute. I'm sure gygax! is heartbroken (unless he's going, I don't know).

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Sunday, 14 March 2004 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

gygax! is going.

hstencil, Sunday, 14 March 2004 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

oh...well, there you go.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Sunday, 14 March 2004 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

And I know for a fact that he's seeing the Chinese Stars tonight. So not a bad week for him either.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Sunday, 14 March 2004 22:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I give you a great idea and you say nothing! I am hurt.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 14 March 2004 23:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, Ned. That is a great idea, though I had something remarkably similar planned for April.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Sunday, 14 March 2004 23:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, that's okay then.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 14 March 2004 23:04 (twenty-one years ago)

make me a cdr. post it.

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 14 March 2004 23:04 (twenty-one years ago)

*cough*

Oh yes...that.

sorry...will do! (and I'll put some bonus goodies in there to compensate!)

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Sunday, 14 March 2004 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

just teasing adam. get out in the sun.

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 14 March 2004 23:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I planted some watermelons out back, and drank a few beers.

More soon.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 15 March 2004 03:29 (twenty-one years ago)

will we be getting the blow by blow this week?

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 15 March 2004 03:34 (twenty-one years ago)

You're in the Bay Area? The Cable Car museum in San Francisco. I'm always surprised at how many SF'ers have never been. And it's free.

m.e.a. (m.e.a.), Monday, 15 March 2004 03:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Sell random herbs from cupboard as pot to unsuspecting tourists/high school kids. Rent 3rd season of Futurama. Comb the $1 bins at Amoeba. Hang slothfully around house while listening to records and watching Futurama/daytime TV and scratching self. Repeat process until week is over.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 15 March 2004 03:49 (twenty-one years ago)

welcome to my world.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 15 March 2004 03:50 (twenty-one years ago)

will we be getting the blow by blow this week?

Eating cornflakes now.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 15 March 2004 03:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Combing the $1 bins at amoeba certainly sounds very necessary.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 15 March 2004 03:54 (twenty-one years ago)

cornflakes after beer?

mullygrubber (gaz), Monday, 15 March 2004 03:57 (twenty-one years ago)

ummm...yes

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 15 March 2004 04:01 (twenty-one years ago)

must go, Simpsons.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 15 March 2004 04:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Combing the $1 bins at amoeba certainly sounds very necessary.

That's two days right there.

m.e.a. (m.e.a.), Monday, 15 March 2004 04:04 (twenty-one years ago)

just woke up.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 15 March 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

at 7 am?! madness.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 15 March 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

though i did too.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 15 March 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I think I might eat another bowl of corn flakes and watch the Lord Of The Decks DVD again.

Then...maybe a walk.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 15 March 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Explain why you started that Manga thread the other week.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 15 March 2004 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

ummmmm...Give it a while. Leee knows!

So far...bought some comics. Ate out at Taqueria Cancun. Rented Japon and Pierrot Le Fou. Pulled some weeds. Made some cds.

More soon.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 15 March 2004 22:33 (twenty-one years ago)

This gardening thing is great!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 15 March 2004 22:33 (twenty-one years ago)

what are you planting, part from melons?

mullygrubber (gaz), Monday, 15 March 2004 22:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm mainly pulling weeds right now. We have a postage stamp-sized bit of ground out back. What's good to plant? We can make this a gardening thread if the weather holds up!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 15 March 2004 22:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Do what I did when I was off w3rk last week - put in a new bath, fit a shower, incl plumbing & leading 50a twin & earth cable under the floor to the fuse box. It's lots of phun. Really. :/

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 15 March 2004 22:52 (twenty-one years ago)

tomatoes.

mullygrubber (gaz), Monday, 15 March 2004 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I know: write some shit for that new website thingy you joined!

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Monday, 15 March 2004 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

We rent, so rewiring the plumbing is out of the question. Tomatoes is a good call, though.

B2D-this HAD already occurred to me, yes.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 15 March 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, the proof is in the pudding you daft expatriate. Hie thee hence and make with the trenchant analysis, or there'll be trouble.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Monday, 15 March 2004 23:08 (twenty-one years ago)

oo-er!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 15 March 2004 23:09 (twenty-one years ago)

well, okay then.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 15 March 2004 23:10 (twenty-one years ago)

beans are good too.

spill them.

mullygrubber (gaz), Monday, 15 March 2004 23:13 (twenty-one years ago)

spend your week biking if the weather is nice.

Ian Johnson (orion), Monday, 15 March 2004 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

We grew tomatoes last year in our postage-stamp sized garden. they were OK. We also managed marrows, peas and various herbs. The tomatoes were the success story though (also I imagine your weather is more conducive to growing decent veg than ours).

When I say we, I had nothing whatsoever to do with the actual gardening part, other than joint ownership of the garden and hence of the products of it.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 15 March 2004 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)

chili peppers! banana peppers are great, too.

oops (Oops), Monday, 15 March 2004 23:39 (twenty-one years ago)

What about strawberries? They're always nice for shortbreads and things.

little star, Monday, 15 March 2004 23:47 (twenty-one years ago)

strawberries take over the whole garden though. which is good if you like strawberries but not if you like having a garden as opposed to a large strawberry patch.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 15 March 2004 23:49 (twenty-one years ago)

chokos

mullygrubber (gaz), Monday, 15 March 2004 23:54 (twenty-one years ago)

plant a beanstalk and climb to the heavens

JaXoN (JasonD), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 00:02 (twenty-one years ago)

@d@m, we should hang out! i have a bunch of things to lend you.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm also off for spring break and completely broke.

Monday so far: still in PJs, watching tv, lots of napping, bout to opena beer.

Ask For Janice (thatgirl), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 00:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah spring break, I remember that. My student workers often ask if I have a spring break, but I have to kindly point out to them that from my perspective I have four working days to completely takedown the previous quarter's reserve holdings and then put up a huge chunk of the new stuff -- thankfully not on my own, but there's not much in the way of extra help.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 01:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Update- Grocery shopping, reading of comic books, listening to music, browsing slsk, made an omelette.

Bought some strawberries, green onions, and basil for the "garden".

Dizzee tomorrow!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 04:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh no, Dizzee's on Wednesday. Thanks, Kyle.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 04:48 (twenty-one years ago)

That sounds almost as bad as LA Takedown (OC Takedown...)

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Have omelettes replaced cornflakes so quickly? Omelettes and beer--sounds pretty good.

little star (little star), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Peaches now!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

From. A. Tin!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

you should grow cotton in your garden. Watch out for the dreaded boll weevil if you do.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Update: Saw Dizzee. Losing voice. Need Coffee. Reading magazines.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 18 March 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

And you are supposed to be in New York!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 18 March 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm leaving later, i'm gonna head up to the upper haight pretty soon, i've almost blown this taco stand.
