I'm been set-up on a date this Saturday, and I need a haircut. When should I get my hair cut for optimum effect?

Not Friday, obviously, because you need time to bed it in, or something. Assuming I want to look my best, which day this week should I have it cut?

Johnney B (Johnney B), Monday, 15 March 2004 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

RJG (RJG), Monday, 15 March 2004 10:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Thursday. It'll take a couple days to "settle."

sgs (sgs), Monday, 15 March 2004 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Wednesday.

If you have a jacked-up skull shape like me, play it safe with Tuesday

LC, Monday, 15 March 2004 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Why not take your date to the barbers...she could choose the look for you most likely to win her over..

winterland, Monday, 15 March 2004 10:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Why not let your date cut your hair?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 15 March 2004 11:13 (twenty-two years ago)

and spend the money saved on dinner..

winterland, Monday, 15 March 2004 11:14 (twenty-two years ago)

You're suggesting they eat his hair?

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 15 March 2004 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like to cut nick's hair and spend the money saved on two cars.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 15 March 2004 11:16 (twenty-two years ago)

even better, and spend the money saved on dinner on booze...

(x-post)

winterland, Monday, 15 March 2004 11:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Hair Pie - Bake 1

Johnney B (Johnney B), Monday, 15 March 2004 11:17 (twenty-two years ago)

26 quid is not that much, RJG.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 15 March 2004 11:18 (twenty-two years ago)

(look at your trouser expenditure. I haven't had my hair cut in over six months)

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 15 March 2004 11:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I could buy a steering wheel cover for each.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 15 March 2004 11:19 (twenty-two years ago)

my TE?

RJG (RJG), Monday, 15 March 2004 11:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, you and your bloody trousers.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 15 March 2004 11:21 (twenty-two years ago)

they said it was genuine dodo blood.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 15 March 2004 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm intregued by Nick's trousers now. (I'm sure that's not the first time he's been told that)

Johnney B (Johnney B), Monday, 15 March 2004 11:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I once asked a chinese waiter what a certain dish was like and he told me "sir, it's like chewing gum served on a bed of human hair"

They had 'deep fried milk' on the menu too

winterland, Monday, 15 March 2004 11:27 (twenty-two years ago)

There was a fashion feature in the Guardian on Saturday on pastel trousers pour hommes, and I thought of N. The model looked like Mike Skinner, though.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 15 March 2004 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I look a bit like Mike Skinner with my new hair.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 15 March 2004 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

A bit like.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 15 March 2004 11:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Do I need to cut my hair to look like Mike Skinner?

Johnney B (Johnney B), Monday, 15 March 2004 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

RJG (RJG), Monday, 15 March 2004 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

had RJG been spending money on JerrytheNipper's hair?

yeah, johnny b you are too late- should have had the hair done a week before at least.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 15 March 2004 11:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I think there's nothing wrong with looking like you just stepped out of a salon.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 15 March 2004 11:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I only found out on Saturday! Ah man!

I'm gonna look rubbish! This is my first date for 6 months, and I'm gonna look rubbish!

*ego, deflate*

Johnney B (Johnney B), Monday, 15 March 2004 11:39 (twenty-two years ago)

wear a hat.

where did you get yours, nick?

oh, and where did you get your hair cut, actually?

RJG (RJG), Monday, 15 March 2004 11:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Back to the question - get your hair cut on the day of the date so that you benefit from the "just stepped out of the salon" look. Though your salon isn't likely to be as expensive as N.'s.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 15 March 2004 11:47 (twenty-two years ago)

£26 for a blokes hair cut is just obscene. I wanna be bald for £26.

But I thought that "just stepped out of the salon" look was a BAD thing?

(not knowing things like this may well be WHY this is my first date in 6 months)

Johnney B (Johnney B), Monday, 15 March 2004 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Getting your haircut on the day of the date = dud, cos your neck is still itchy, and you have lots of little bits of hair on the back of your ears, no matter how much your wipe them off with tissues.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 15 March 2004 11:54 (twenty-two years ago)

and turning up to a date with a box of tissues, saying "I may have to wipe myself down" is a definite dud.

winterland, Monday, 15 March 2004 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

If they put the gown on you properly, there is no discomfort. Or maybe my hair is just not as abrasive as JtN's.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 15 March 2004 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

this all sounds like it's worth £26, where is it??

RJG (RJG), Monday, 15 March 2004 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

It depends in what sort of cut you're going for as to whether you should have it on the same day. If you're getting it all shaved off sure, aslong as you can have a shower, but if not you may not like what they have done with it & wont have any time to hiderectify the wrong doing!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 15 March 2004 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Hely Hair Studio on Sauchiehall St, RJG. But you might like Essensuals or DLC more.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 15 March 2004 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

WHAT DO MEAN THIS IS NOT A STEVEM THREAD!?!?

Phew!

How do you know that the ladies even *like* short, groomed hair. HSA told me that he very nearly got a haircut before our first date. It's a very good thing he didn't or he would never have pulled. ;-)

The River Kate (kate), Monday, 15 March 2004 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

really? how come? no photos?

RJG (RJG), Monday, 15 March 2004 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Who says he's getting it short and groomed? Hairdressers do messy too.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 15 March 2004 12:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, but styled "messy" is *not* the same as actual "I'm too busy thinking about the future of conceptual art to bother with my hair" messy.

The River Kate (kate), Monday, 15 March 2004 12:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Uh, actually, I AM getting it short and groomed. I tried doing messy once - no matter what I did, I ended up looking like Art Garfunkel.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Monday, 15 March 2004 12:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, but styled "messy" is *not* the same as actual "I'm too busy thinking about the future of conceptual art to bother with my hair" messy.

You're right - it looks better.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 15 March 2004 12:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Styled messy air is awful! Unless of course you go for that played out 'fashion' look!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 15 March 2004 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)

hairstyles are more important than conceptual art.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 15 March 2004 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)

(in the weeks prior to the haircut, I had been compared several times to a tramp. That is not a look I want.)

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 15 March 2004 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Signs of the times: I went on a date a couple of weeks ago and although the woman was lovely and we had loads in common and it went really well, I realised that through the entire experience I felt like those three goons from the BBC2 show, 'Would Like To Meet', were in their observation van IN MY HEAD, providing a running commentary on the whole thing, eg: "Arrggh! Call that a handshake?! I've seen firmer lettuce!" They said nice things, too, though.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 15 March 2004 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I am quite prepared to accept that my new hair is played out and dated. In this way it makes me look younger.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 15 March 2004 12:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Or like an idiot?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 15 March 2004 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, well the folly of the young, you know.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 15 March 2004 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

;-)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 15 March 2004 12:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh dear Jerry. Though if I were to go on a date in the near future I fear exactly the same thing would happen to me.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 15 March 2004 12:59 (twenty-two years ago)

better not to date.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 15 March 2004 13:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know if I've dated or not.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 15 March 2004 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't. Not consciously, anyhow.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 15 March 2004 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

You're quite 1998.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 15 March 2004 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I feared that might be the case.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 15 March 2004 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Getting your haircut on the day of the date = dud, cos your neck is still itchy, and you have lots of little bits of hair on the back of your ears, no matter how much your wipe them off with tissues.

Stevie, you do shower before going on a date, don't you?!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 15 March 2004 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

better not to shower.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 15 March 2004 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I sometimes wish I got my hair cut more often just so I could talk to the Spanish barber, he's a total psycho.

"Have you got any ideas for the name of this place? The owners want a new name, I have suggested "Fuck You" and "The Spanish Wanker" but they didn't like it"

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 15 March 2004 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

As I said before though he cuts a good head.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 15 March 2004 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I find the pheromonal stench of mansmell works wonders on a first date.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 15 March 2004 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Mansmell = Lynx Dry?

Johnney B (Johnney B), Monday, 15 March 2004 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't shower until the third date.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 15 March 2004 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

What if the phone never rings?

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 15 March 2004 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Dump it.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 15 March 2004 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)
