ffff, Monday, 15 March 2004 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

An homage to Moshe Dayan?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 15 March 2004 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

it's not an eyepatch.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 15 March 2004 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

amoebas

anthony, Monday, 15 March 2004 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a memento from his time as a session musician for Dr Hook.

I dunno, man....that looks an awful lot like an eyepatch to me.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 15 March 2004 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

it's a hole.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 15 March 2004 17:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe that sweater is just a little too much for both eyes at the same time?

penelope_11, Monday, 15 March 2004 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

...or perhaps the kilt.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 15 March 2004 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Is Momus going bald? He always seems to wear his hair in funny ways.

Oscar Champion, Monday, 15 March 2004 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Not only that, it would appear that sour apple drops are his favourite boiled sweets.

penelope_11, Monday, 15 March 2004 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

haha and that amputated guy next to him has one of those plastic comedy "arm" eyepatch!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 15 March 2004 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

not an eyepatch, hu. ok, what the fuck is it?

ffff, Monday, 15 March 2004 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a sunmonocle.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 15 March 2004 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

STOP THIS MOMUS THREAD MADNESS!
NOW!
PEOPLE!
DO NOT FORCE ME TO SHOW YOU THE EYE!
NOBODY SEES THE EYE AND LIVES!

Momus (Momus), Monday, 15 March 2004 19:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Hahahahahaha

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 15 March 2004 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

NOBODY SEES THE EYE AND LIVES

...apart from 4 billion rather hungry amobae who lived ON it.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 15 March 2004 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

i hear that he keeps tasty treats in there (!!!)

dean! (deangulberry), Monday, 15 March 2004 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

THE AMOEBAS ARE DEAD NOW.
AS YOU WILL BE SOON IF YOU PERSIST.
LEAVE THIS PLACE, I BEG YOU!
THE LAST PERSON TO SEE THE EYE SOUNDED LIKE THIS!
THEN HE DIED!

Momus (Momus), Monday, 15 March 2004 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I've seen it. I really don't recommend it...

...and I shall never wear contact lenses again. OK, so I was too lazy to wear them in the first place, but now I have a dramatic excuse!

Layna Andersen (Layna Andersen), Monday, 15 March 2004 21:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Show us the eye, Momus.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 15 March 2004 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Before you die, you see The Eye.

Barima (Barima), Monday, 15 March 2004 22:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Momus just wears the eyepatch to cover up his robotic eye, which looks a bit like this:

http://www.ifi.unizh.ch/~knorr/movies/terminator.gif

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 15 March 2004 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Is Momus Adam???????

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 15 March 2004 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

It would make sense, no?

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 15 March 2004 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

This thread reminds me of the time I once offered Momus, who I am now quite fond of, a copy of my fanzine, at half price because "he was only going to see it in 2d". : (

But who does that make Buffy?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 15 March 2004 22:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Did he accept, jerry?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 15 March 2004 22:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 15 March 2004 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

why do so many anonymous posters have such a hard-on for momus?

Ask For Janice (thatgirl), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 01:00 (twenty-two years ago)

well if you think about it, he's like the ultimate anonymous poster.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 01:06 (twenty-two years ago)

i've seen momus's eye, and i've lived to tell the tale. the eye was featured on a BBC documentary.

Gatinha (rwillmsen), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 01:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I would wear an eye patch to pretend to be my evil twin. I need an evil twin name first though

Menelaus Darcy (Menelaus Darcy), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 01:17 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, what name would suit your small town american counterpart?

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 01:19 (twenty-two years ago)

thersites austin.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 01:22 (twenty-two years ago)

So let me try to encapsulate and summarise: Momus wore contacts for a while, and one of his eyes got badly infected somehow, causing masses of amoeba to grow and multiply, fucking his eye up pretty badly. Today, it looks pretty disgusting, and thus is hidden by an eyepatch. Is that right?

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 01:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Essentially.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 01:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I never did trust contact lenses. Even worn for a day, they used to make my eyes red and sore.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 02:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Does he still wear a contact lens in the other eye?

Dickerson Pike (Dickerson Pike), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 02:22 (twenty-two years ago)

VERY good question, Pike. Aslo - if he does, does he clean it and change it regularly?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 02:25 (twenty-two years ago)

One would hope so, surely.

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 03:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Either that or Momus is riding the rugged edge of danger like the amazing maverick that he is.

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 03:02 (twenty-two years ago)

"fangoria will give me $20 for this shot!"

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 03:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Take my other eye, God!! Take it, you sonofabitch! Blaaargh!!

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 03:04 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm sorry but having had amoebas in his fucking eye makes momus about 100x cooler than before.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 03:05 (twenty-two years ago)

so he's like above urkel but still below spuds mackenzie

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 03:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Ya Momus got a glass eye with a fish in it

Nate in ST.P (natedetritus), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 03:08 (twenty-two years ago)

You're saying Urkel is uncool? Like, wtf?!

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 03:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw Momus open for Belle & Sebastian in Chicago a long time ago and there were these stupid dudes standing in front of me making pirate jokes so I said, "He lost his eye from a flesh eating bacteria," and then they stopped.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 04:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha, excellent.

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 04:34 (twenty-two years ago)

i KNEW that there had to be a rational reason for not ever wearing contacts (other than the fact that i don't like having foreign objects on my eyeballs).

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 04:35 (twenty-two years ago)

DIE NOW! DIE! DIE! DIE!
ALL OF YOU! IN HORRIBLE AGONY!

But before you do, read The Story of an Eye. Mine is the last blog you will ever read. Goodbye!

Momus (Momus), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 10:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Yikes! Them's some scary luminescent amoebae alright.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 10:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Momus, on your web site there is a photo of a beautiful red mountain hut. Where is that?

Speedy (Speedy Gonzalas), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 10:19 (twenty-two years ago)

It has to be said the eye in question doesn't always look so gruesome.

penelope_11, Tuesday, 16 March 2004 10:40 (twenty-two years ago)

A very close friend of mine wears an eye patch, and idiots sometimes make pirate jokes from afar, until of course they realise that he has had some pretty serious surgery on his face (thank you, cancer!), hence the patch. Sadly his condition is getting dire...

Any suggestions for good (the nastier the better) come-backs to these fools who make eye-patch jokes?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 10:53 (twenty-two years ago)

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Nice! Keep 'em comin!

I mean, it's a bit out of his character, but I sense that he really wants to holler back to these morons with something a bit more interesting than the usual "Fuck you, asshole!"

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 11:00 (twenty-two years ago)

'Last person who called me captain was your wife, last night'

Three great ways to get the other eye poked out there.

Momus, on your web site there is a photo of a beautiful red mountain hut. Where is that?

It's on a mountain in New Zealand. A climbing lodge.

Wow. I just realised this is the same guy from a documentary I saw in biology once!! "They told me I had to rinse the contact lenses in distilled water, but they never mentioned I had to rinse the contact lense CASE in distilled water!!!". What was that song you were singing with a goldfish bowl on your head? It was quite catchy.
