Chief Joseph

I would like to see pictures of Chief Joseph and hear everything you know about the Nez Perce (did he have a pierced nose?) chief whose real name was something like Hin-mak-ta-tut-ankh-amun-pharaoh-I'll Google it.

My mother looks like him and if she could be a superhero, she'd be Chief Joseph back from the dead.

Plus I'm doing some historical research for a biography I'm writing of Gen. Rufus Saxton. O.O. Howard comes into it, as a guy who dealt much with both Rufus Saxton and Chief Joseph, both of whom happened to be connected with the Bitterroot Valley of Montana, where I'm from.

Everywhere I turn the last two weeks, I'm hearing or reading about the Nez Perce. I think it means something.

I've been to that sign there, I think! My grandparents lived in the Bitterroot Valley for a time, which is where I learned about the Nez Perce and Chief Joseph. It was many years ago, though, and my memories are dim...

I lived between Corvallis and Hamilton, MT (1976-1984), on the western side of the valley.

Ain't it just so fucked that such nobility can be crushed into oblivion without so much as a how-do-you-do? This country is soaked with blood. It is no wonder that we are so screwed up.

You misspelled "Keith Joseph" there, chum.

I used to have a huge B&W poster of him in my room as a child. It comforted me at night, for some reason.
