Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Built to withstand a 1 MEGATON blast within 3,000 feet and survive!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

What's a Megaton? I assume it's bad shit, right?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

maura: i just worry that some wacko white supremacist group is going to buy it

Less boyfriend talk, more gigantic subterranean robotic fortress (of death)!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

i mean, i'm not plunking 4 mil down on somewhere where i have to duck every time i walk under a bulkhead

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Less boyfriend talk, more gigantic subterranean robotic fortress (of death)!

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 17:11 (twenty-two years ago)

(so i liked to hide...that doesnt mean i was disturbed...)

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

the keyword is survival on the new frontier.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

i've got my own bunker off 495 in maine. only holds 8 people. grandaddy kephm was always prepared. don't know if it could survive a megaton attack though.

kephm, Tuesday, 16 March 2004 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

i'd settle for a blanket fort under the dining room table.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I predict that Jel will be the first person to seriously suggest a bid.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

this is so Y2k

kephm, Tuesday, 16 March 2004 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Lauren I so want to make a den under my desk now you're said that.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

A table's as good as a bunker.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

sigh. how magical are blanket forts?

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

not as magical as ones made with sofa cushions.

Kingfish Cowboy (Kingfish), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

depends on the blanket

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

my secret fortress was the hall coat closet, under a pile of old coats.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

somebody find me a copy of this, quick!

Kingfish Cowboy (Kingfish), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

five years pass...

22 stories underground: Iron Mountain's experimental Room 48

Down a road that winds through the rolling hills of western Pennsylvania, just across from a cow pasture, the bucolic scenery of Butler County is interrupted by a high chain-link fence topped with razor wire.

Cars entering the compound are channeled into gated lanes before being searched by a guard. A short distance beyond the security point, the road disappears into a gaping hole in a cliff face. The hole is sealed off by the thick, steel bars of a tall sliding gate controlled by guards carrying semiautomatic pistols. They are protecting a 25-foot-high passage that leads 22 stories down to Iron Mountain's main archive facility, which takes up 145 acres of a 1,000-acre abandoned limestone mine.
