I hate this bitch. She stole some of my ideas. and is based here in town! I think she overheard me talking about them at the bar.

(there's another better one out there, sublime stitching)

Oh dear. I'm sorry Samantha, I had no idea.

Those are just the crafts equivalent of "you don't have to be crazy to work here... BUT IT HELPS!!!" signs. Bah to them. I am ever so wary about the self-conscious group of punxx0r knitters (hello stitch'n'bitch book) but this is only because I am crap and have only ever managed to make some fingerless gloves.

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 18 March 2004 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah well, I got a laugh out of it on a slow day but I see your point.

Although I'm planning to go to CRAFT RAWKS!!! at the V&A on Friday so I'm not really one to speakz0r.

Have you ever looked at the craft groups on Livejournal?

caitlin (caitlin), Thursday, 18 March 2004 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I always thought it would be awesome to get a passport photo of my lovely face, scan it into photoshop, pixelate it so that it was made up of lots of wee squares, print it out on to iron on t-shirt transfer paper, iron it on to some cross stich material stuff, cross stitch it, then make a cushion cover out of it and have it sitting about my living room. Ideally I'd have a few. [no sit on my face gags please].

hmmm (hmmm), Thursday, 18 March 2004 11:04 (twenty-two years ago)

But what would the point of that be if not for sit on my face gags!

caitlin (caitlin), Thursday, 18 March 2004 11:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, that's why I'm suspicious of them! The best thing to do is to watch the knitters argue with vegans (wool issues there, marvellous). They're a bunch of MENKOS. I'm on a few crafts groups actually, but haf never posted owt.

Wow, I never knew these subcultures existed until recently when I found a ripping t-shirts group which I instantly sent to my g/f, who's a great ripper of t-shirts. I suppose there's a subculture for everything, with all the attendant social issues and problems.

My sister has become an avid knitter over the past few years, but as is the way with her on her own terms rather than being part of any self-conscious SF-based group or the like. She loves people but hates organizations, I've concluded.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 18 March 2004 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

i love cross-stitching and crochet (never got the hang of knitting).

There are crap boring xstitch patterns though and I once decided to do an emily strange pattern. And then my friend asked if I would make him a "Fuck Off and Die" sampler and the idea of rude ones quite got my fancy.

But then I started teaching and had no time for persuing such nonsense. :(

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Thursday, 18 March 2004 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

what is a self-conscious knitting group?

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Thursday, 18 March 2004 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

one that is highly aware of their own knitting activity.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Thursday, 18 March 2004 17:11 (twenty-two years ago)

a friend of mine is making a bruce springsteen cross-stitch thing for my birthday.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 18 March 2004 17:11 (twenty-two years ago)

one that is highly aware of their own knitting activity.

And they can be, apparently.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 18 March 2004 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

If this would have been about Subversive Crotch-Sniff I would have said Warhol to thread.

Sébastien Chikara (Sébastien Chikara), Thursday, 18 March 2004 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

haha "thread"

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 18 March 2004 19:57 (twenty-two years ago)

What constitutes being 'highly aware'? Does it including going on TV at every available opportunity to talk about knitting?
