Al Qaeda endorses Bush in presidential election

The statement said it supported President Bush in his reelection campaign, and would prefer him to win in November rather than the Democratic candidate John Kerry, as it was not possible to find a leader "more foolish than you (Bush), who deals with matters by force rather than with wisdom."

In comments addressed to Bush, the group said:

"Kerry will kill our nation while it sleeps because he and the Democrats have the cunning to embellish blasphemy and present it to the Arab and Muslim nation as civilization."

"Because of this we desire you (Bush) to be elected."

As Drudgereport.com should say:

DEVELOPING...

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Thursday, 18 March 2004 03:23 (twenty-two years ago)

This is the group that claimed responsibility for the August blackout, so if you think that's ridiculous (as the administration does), this should be treated similarly.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 18 March 2004 03:27 (twenty-two years ago)

al-qaeda is rooting for dubya

but hey y'all post in whichever thread y'all want ... i'm not jealous. as long as the meme is spread it's all good!!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 18 March 2004 03:28 (twenty-two years ago)

and if the whole group isn't a hoax of some sort, this statement probably is

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 18 March 2004 03:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Al Qaeda a hoax?

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Thursday, 18 March 2004 03:35 (twenty-two years ago)

No. "the whole group" refers to the Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigades, the group purportedly issuing the statement.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 18 March 2004 03:43 (twenty-two years ago)

It's such a peculiarly worded statement for a hoax, though. I wonder.

daria g (daria g), Thursday, 18 March 2004 04:45 (twenty-two years ago)

This 'meme' is slightly dumber than the Bush camp's "North Korea Luvs Kerry!"

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 18 March 2004 04:49 (twenty-two years ago)

What gabbneb meant was that this whole group, I Love Everything, is a hoax.

For real, it is a hoax.

News just in - Terrorist representatives today announced they were abandoning further retaliatory plans against allies of the US-led war on Iraq when a nine year old girl pointed out to them that--had terrorists not destroyed the World Trade Center--George W. Bush would never have been able to muster the support to attack Iraq in the first place.

"Yeah, that lapse in clear thinking was our bad," said terrorist spokesman Abu Al Bumen. "If 9/11 hadn't happened, Bush could never had ridden a wave of fear and anger right into the middle of Baghdad. I mean, the kid had it right. She didn't really leave us a lot of wiggle room, y'know?"

The startling turnabout began when nine year old Terri Schwindenhamer of Tulsa, OK, wrote a letter to the editor that appeared in the Tuesday New York Times. Young Schwindenhamer, whose letter was headlined "Could Someone Explain This To me," pointed out in part, "I don't understand why the terrorists are hurting people over stuff the terrorists themselves helped to happen."

Al Bunem, in a taped interview airing on the Spike Network, stated, "We just hadn't considered it that we...I mean, we were blowing up innocent people over events that we initiated. Frankly, I don't know what the hell we were thinking. Bottom line is, we pretty much screwed the pooch on this whole revenge thing. So, y'know, we're reconsidering our options."

"Actually, we're thinking of getting into management of national political campaigns. Turns out we're pretty good at that."

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 18 March 2004 10:10 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm never sure which particular Arab or Muslim nation they are referring to when they say THE - and have they even declared what they would like to happen in Iraq, other than US & Allies to get the hell out?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 18 March 2004 10:20 (twenty-two years ago)

so is it smart tactics of the Arab newspapers to print it because of the reverse-psychology aspect of saying 'we want Bush to win' and this causing problems for some Amerians whose preference also lies with Bush, or is that also dumb?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 18 March 2004 10:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm wondering if all those right-wing pundits who have been saying "the Spanish election result is a win for Al Quaeda! It was just what the terrorists wanted!" are now going to start telling people they should vote Democrat.

caitlin (caitlin), Thursday, 18 March 2004 10:55 (twenty-two years ago)

erm, i don't understand this 'spanish election result is a win for al quaeda' thing. can someone explain it to me? as far as i can see the new spanish prime minister has pledged to fight terrorist groups, i think he said it was his top priority. yes they might remove troops from iraq, but iraq had NOTHING to do with 9/11 or al quaeda?

zappi (joni), Thursday, 18 March 2004 13:02 (twenty-two years ago)

dude, they're on the same axis of evil innit, don't you learn anything from TV?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 18 March 2004 13:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I agree. Thing is there's some AQ-associated website that says Spain would 'crumble' and withdraw from Iraq if hit hard, and so in that sense the terrorists have achieved their aims. However, these are not fucking two-state solutions kinds of guys. They'd be just as pleased if Aznar had won and set about making anti-Muslim laws since that would fuel their fire. The new prez is anti-terrorist, as everyone should be; he just isn't getting sidetracked by Bushco's tangential aims.

Strachey, Thursday, 18 March 2004 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

yeh it's still confusing why they're so bothered about Iraq when a) they supposedly didn't like Saddam (tho prefer him to Bush) and b) don't like Socialism. The 'mudering Iraqi children' line starts to seem like a smokescreen harbouring nothing more than a desire for global anarchy from which their idea of a fundamentalist revolution may actually become more feasible (seems to be the case in Africa)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 18 March 2004 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

On second thoughts, I think Al Qaeda released this statement to confuse both the left and right sides. Also has the nice side effect of getting both sides shouting "you're wrong" and blaming each other even more.

It's win/win for them whatever happens. Unless they're defeated, or whatever.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Thursday, 18 March 2004 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

well i don't see how it can be genuine, as if they do 'ceasefires' or would support a Bush re-election so they can continue their war, as if they enjoy it

Now I'm confused.

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 18 March 2004 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

WaPo bit about the situ

Within days, that assertion was in tatters, and with it the reputation and fortunes of the ruling party. Suspicion that the government manipulated information -- blaming ETA in order to divert any possible link between the bombings and Aznar's unpopular support for the war in Iraq -- helped fuel the upset victory of the Socialist Workers' Party in Sunday's elections. By then, Islamic extremists linked to al Qaeda had become the focus of the investigation.

Kingfish Cowboy (Kingfish), Thursday, 18 March 2004 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

seven years pass...

kind of mind-boggling to compare the progress made against AQ in Dubya's 8 years vs. Obama's in 4
