Is your neighbor giving money to Bushco or Kerryco?

fundrace.org

You can find out political donations by neighborhood. Three cheers for sunshine laws, and a Bronx cheer for a certain neighbor of mine whom I thought was much smarter.

don weiner, Thursday, 18 March 2004 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh joy...

My zip code
and across the bridge from me just feet away

Wow, some Wesley Clark in there mixed in with the Howard Dean, Bush, and Kerry. interesting.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 18 March 2004 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow, this is great. But I'm not on it, apparently. However, this gave me a laugh:

William Shaw
Carol Moseley Braun
$1,000

Robert Shaw
Carol Moseley Braun
$1,000

Ha ha ha ha - that's money well-spent, assholes!

For those outside Chicago, the Shaw brothers are notorious-pain-in-the-ass slimeballs who try to undermine other black politicians, like my congressman.

Kerry (dymaxia), Thursday, 18 March 2004 15:45 (twenty-two years ago)

christ, look at the number of $2K bush donors from ann arbor(48104)...

Kingfish Cowboy (Kingfish), Thursday, 18 March 2004 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I looked at my old neighborhood in Nebraska, and it was all $2,000 Bush donors. Like he really needs the money.

Kerry (dymaxia), Thursday, 18 March 2004 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Jeezus - nobody gives, like, a $200 donation to GWB - they are ALL $1000 and $2000 donations. Fuck the rich.

Now you know what you're up against.

Kerry (dymaxia), Thursday, 18 March 2004 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

And yet they don't want to pay taxes...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 18 March 2004 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Lots of people in the town where I work giving big $$s to GWB. I always hated this fucking town.

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 18 March 2004 16:19 (twenty-two years ago)

C'mon, you guys - this is TOO MUCH FUN!!

ANDREW SANTOS
CATHOLIC PRIEST
CATHOLIC BISHOP OF CHICAGO George W. Bush
$267

$267 - WTF? Shame on you, Father.

Kerry (dymaxia), Thursday, 18 March 2004 16:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I just realized why I'm not in it - I haven't mailed in the forms yet.

Kerry (dymaxia), Thursday, 18 March 2004 16:21 (twenty-two years ago)

$267? Must have some sort of theological significance.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 18 March 2004 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

That's what I figured.

Still more fun, this time from the owner of the White Sox:

J.Reinsdorf
Real Estate Exec.
Bojer Financial
Carol Moseley Braun
$2,000
33 W 35th St
Chicago, IL 60616

Kerry (dymaxia), Thursday, 18 March 2004 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Howard Dean obviously failed because he was supported by a chap who works for Cuntis, Salke & Co.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 18 March 2004 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

more gossip:

An ex-roommate used to be a 'punk' and musician (he wasn't well-liked by some of his roommates). Then he cleaned up his act & went to college. He got a writing gig doing financial stuff - still claiming to be a 'liberal'. Then he got a job writing for a well-known Republican, still claiming that he was a Democrat. It was just a job, he said.

Well, lookee - he's still writing for the Republican, and he gave $2,000 to GWB. I know why he did it, too - it's because there's a chance that he will get a really good job if GWB gets re-elected. What a whore.

People who knew this guy would chuckle, including the writers at a certain 'zine who did a whole piece mocking him.

Kerry (dymaxia), Thursday, 18 March 2004 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I live in a Dean neighborhood which I knew anyway from the lawn signs. Only one Bush donation. yea Berkeley!

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Thursday, 18 March 2004 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmm, I wonder why I'm not on there yet. I guess they only report this periodically.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 18 March 2004 18:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, this explains it:

All calculations are based on records filed with the FEC of contributions by all individuals totalling more than $200 to a single campaign through December 31, 2003.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 18 March 2004 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Jeezus - nobody gives, like, a $200 donation to GWB - they are ALL $1000 and $2000 donations. Fuck the rich.
Now you know what you're up against.

This was exactly my thought.

Which is why I'm been such an asshole on the "are you going to vote" thread...

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 18 March 2004 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

And yet they don't want to pay taxes...

Exactly my thought too, except this one makes me writhe even more.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 18 March 2004 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

It probably grates you even more that many donations are tax deductable, which affords the "rich" (and everyone else) a possibly lower tax burden.

Also, should we fuck only the rich, or just the rich who give money to Bush?

don weiner, Thursday, 18 March 2004 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay for my ex-girlfriend's dad and one of my own dad's coolest work buddies for contributing the entire $250 in Kucinich's campaign fund!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 18 March 2004 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Donations to candidates are not tax-deductible, I am pretty sure.

daria g (daria g), Thursday, 18 March 2004 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, should we fuck only the rich, or just the rich who give money to Bush?

I would say, fuck the rich who don't give a damn about anything but their bank accounts and just want to re-elect Bush so he'll keep their taxes low and if that means that lots of people working two minimum wage jobs just to make ends meet still won't even have health care then tough shit for them.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 18 March 2004 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

That's obvious. And fuck especially my ex-friend who is only doing it so he can have a job after the election. He should know better. How many more of these donors have similar motivations?

Here's an interesting page:

http://www.fundrace.org/moneyindex.html

Kerry (dymaxia), Thursday, 18 March 2004 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

thank god the CEO of the company I work for is a Democrat

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Thursday, 18 March 2004 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

someone in my hood donated 2gs to fuckin Dennis Kucinich. Good for them.. isnt he still in the race too? Some other guy gave 2gs to bush and about a thousand to lieberman. way to spread the love around.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Thursday, 18 March 2004 19:43 (twenty-two years ago)

the city maps are great.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 18 March 2004 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Kucinich is still in the race as much as he ever has been.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 18 March 2004 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Let's have fun spying on the rich (and famous!)

I especially love it when about ten people in one building plus their 'housewives' all give $2,000 to George Bush.

This is the most fun site I've been to in a long time.

Kerry (dymaxia), Friday, 19 March 2004 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

HAHA!

I guess Oregon doesn't have any wealthy zip codes. (the above link is what I got.)

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 19 March 2004 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

What's really somewhat evil about the above fundrace.org site is that it fully lists (most of the time) the full mailing address of the couples each donating their measly $2K to Bush. Surely, a great tool for renegade eggers?

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 19 March 2004 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I looked at my hometown zip and found various young Mondales donating to Dean, but a substantial amount of donors were $1/2K for the range of Dem candidates, with a strong showing for Lieberman in particular. Also, there is clearly a shit-hot law office somewhere in the zip code.

That's pretty funny. I don't really know him -- I was a fan of his band, and that was the extent of it -- but a friend of mine in NYC has been friendly with K for almost 20 years due to a zine/music/writing connection. I found it weird when he got the R--- G------ gig, that's for sure.

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Friday, 19 March 2004 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

No. Paul Luka5 (B33r Fram3 'zine.) He was a huge Green fan around the time of their first EP.

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Friday, 19 March 2004 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

My new zip has a half-dozen $2k donations to George Bush from the same family. A scattering of $500 donations to Edwards and Dean.

My old zip has a $2k donation to Edwards from a guy I graduated from high school with. Still listed as "student - unemployed," but there's no donation from his father (which would have been my guess).

RONALD M. STOCKER

Also found the reservation my dad used to work on:
TOHONO O'ODHAM NATION
George W. Bush

Does anyone know why a rez would donate money to Bush? They also donated $500 to Gephardt!

Many people donate because they want influence. Those who do often donate to who they think will be the winner. Obviously, either side can win, so they donate to both. This year, many people think Bush will win, so they donate a lot to Bush, and a little, or less, to one or more Dems.

Yeah, I get that, I guess I just can't imagine anyone really supporting Gephardt for real. You're right, it was probably motivated by the political expectations in that quarter, but still, that rez is just incredibly poor and I can't imagine what kind of attention you might get from the government for $2K. (no actual people on the rez voted, and hey, why does a reservation appear on a list of people anyway?)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Saturday, 20 March 2004 07:20 (twenty-two years ago)

19 people in my zip code gave to George W. Bush.
3 people in my zip code gave to John Kerry.
3 people in my zip code gave to John Edwards.
3 people in my zip code gave to Wesley Clark.
3 people in my zip code gave to Howard Dean.

Well, that's not exactly accurate -- a local, high-profile attorney (Pat Maloney) gave to about four different presidential candidates, with his biggest contributions ($2,000 each) going to John Kerry and John Edwards. The other two candidates he gave to were Howard Dean and Wesley Clark, so you know he's committed to the Democratic party.

Biggest surprise -- Ernesto Ancira, a high-profile car dealership franchise owner, is listed only once, as donating $1,000 to George W. Bush. I would've never figured him for a Bush supporter. Never in a billion years.

(FYI, many physicians live or have mailing addresses in my zip code.)

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Saturday, 20 March 2004 07:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Now for the zip code I first lived in.

10 people in the zip code I first lived in gave to Howard Dean.
2 people in the zip code I first lived in gave to John Kerry.
4 people in the zip code I first lived in gave to John Edwards.
77 people in the zip code I first lived in gave to George W. Bush.
1 person in the zip code I first lived in gave to Wesley Clark.
1 person in the zip code I first lived in gave to Dick Gephardt.

I had no idea so many people in this zip code were giving money to the Bush campaign. I mean, it's not like the first neighborhood I ever lived in was particularly opulent -- in fact, the house I'm living in right now is worth about three times what the first house I ever lived in is worth, according to the county property appraisal people. I also had no idea I'd come up with that large a list of donors, period. Hm.

Oh yeah, and I found out something that might interest any/all of you anti-C1e4r Ch4nne1 people out there, i.e. the home address of the ch4irm4n of C1e4r Ch4nne1. Drat. I can't figure out how to type out his name and make it 100% Google-proof.

i'm pleasantly stunned to see that my district is one of the bluest areas in the Deep South. With all of the Bush/Cheney stickers i've been seeing (sometimes in LSU's purple & gold colors no less) i expected to be deep red.) It's quite strange to see New Orleans is red, instead of Baton Rouge, although it's a very light shade of red. Probably the Dems still living there don't have the money to spare.

badgerminor (badgerminor), Saturday, 20 March 2004 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I only had 3 people in my zip code - two for Wesley Clark and one retired sheriff who gave a thousand or two to Carol Mosely-Braun. We don't have a lot of money down here - I'm sure people are saving it for the general election.

There are three donors in my building. One gave $2000 to Bush, an attorney gave $1000 to Gephardt, and a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs gave $1000 to Lieberman. In the building I grew up in, there's one donor, a financial planner who I know and is a nice guy. He gave $2,000 to Dean. (I have yet to put my money where my mouth is)

Apparently a corporate lawyer who's helped me a lot, career-wise, gave $1,000 to Dean. I always assumed he was a Republican

Ha ha, 49504 was predictable and depressing! With 10 contributions of $2000 each from the members of the DeVos family.

Jami Gertz gave $2,000 to Bush AND Howard Dean. The "Former Stars of Square Pegs" lobby is alive and well apparently.
