how will Sept 11th effect art>especially by those living in NYC>who will be the first to do the movie from the hijackers point of view after all the ensemble TV mini series>have you become more hedonistic/nihilistic/affection-seeking/stoic/political since Sept 11th.

'are they really going to bomb during Ramadan?'

Why wouldn't they?

dave q, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I could think of many different reasons why they wouldn't. Which is why I wouldn't be surprised to see something big happen between now and November 15.

What better time to attack than when everybody's fasting? I know there isn't any food to be had there anyway, but still.

from artnet.com news :

CALDER MOBILE FOUND IN WTC DEBRIS The New York Post reports that part of Alexander Calder's monumental sculpture Bent Propeller (1970), which stood on the plaza at 7 World Trade Center, has been found in the rubble. Alexander Rower, Calder's grandson and head of the Calder Foundation, had asked volunteers at the site to keep an eye out for the work.

I thought this thread was going to be for posting of your WTC related art. I was looking forward to drawings of the twin towers with sad faces and bandaids.

Words fail me.

Horseback boy, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

that's more like it kodashni, thanks. The week of the event I unfortunately saw a display of children's art which included the aforementioned twin towers crying and wearing bandaids.

Did anyone else see the Guardian poetry page on Saturday?

Tom, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I saw it but did not read it for fear of having a major cringe attack.

RickyT, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i was saving it, to savour better

mark s, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The one that rhymes is extraordinary. I thought Pete might have a hernia for uh reacting to it so intensely.

Geoff, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

KROGER!!!!!! my dad used to buy the kroger-brand beer. it came in a yellow can with kroger's logo, scissors (for cutting costs), and the word beer spelled BeeR.

i still haven't heard what happened on 34th st. all the subways were fucked up this AM because of a "police action" there.

Other WTC art losses include a huge Louise Nevelson wood piece and a similarly huge Miro tapestry that had just been cleaned, both of which were displayed prominently in the lobbies of 1 and 2 WTC. 7 WTC's lobby had sizable Roy Lichtenstein and Frank Stella pieces, as well as something that looked like it was by Bridget Riley but wasn't. I also know for a fact that Cantor Fitzgerald had a number of original Rodins -- B. Gerald Cantor was v. v. big on him.

Answering the question, I believe that with the following objects will become extremely popular in the coming months: doll parts, mannikins, scrap metal, dust, concrete, shoes, cedar and stone (check the Bible y'all), televisions and the American flag. Grid paintings will also be hot, hot, hot.

I sure the fuck hope they DON'T bomb during Ramadan.

I sure the fuck hope they DON'T bomb during Ramadan.

I gather by that time most everything will be frozen up anyway. Which of course means...starvation and death! Yay us, once again. Does anyone remember that great Life in Hell after the Gulf War showing Akbar and Jeff wearing gas masks at cheering "We won! We won!" in front of a huge cemetery?

Ned Raggett, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Which of course means...starvation and death!

Wouldn't it be comforting to be assured that the USA's attempts at humanitarian aid will be doing something other than giving a teeny- weeny fraction of Afghanistan's population fortified crackers and jam when they probably could benefit more from a hospital bed and an IV unit?

Michael Daddino, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Wouldn't it, dear Michael, wouldn't it. *growls*

Ned Raggett, Monday, 22 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I know someone who is working on the list of art lost and it runs to 10 pages double sided in 10 pt type. It inculdes a warhol liz and a huge 70s agnes martin aside from what mike mentioned . (sp)

I accidentally glanced at the Guardian poems last night. My fears were justified, particularly wrt the rhyming one.
