roots is talkin' this week -- first, philly tells mtv tells "real world" to take a hike for hiring scabs. now, this.

maybe kosciuszko, chopin, and pilsudski can finally stop spinning in their graves.

but the real question is: is micronesia still in the coalition? what does this move mean for tonga?

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Thursday, 18 March 2004 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess we're gonna have to tell 'freedom jokes' when we go to the bar now.

why are fly-swatters illegal in free-land?
why wasn't there a freedom ice-hockey team?

Er, third paragraph: He argued however that it made no sense to pull US-led coalition troops out of Iraq.

Stuart (Stuart), Thursday, 18 March 2004 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, stuart, he did say that (and i did read it). still, the story is interesting in that it's another coalition member saying that bushco lied to them wr2 iraq -- as well as ass-covering for the home-front (the polish people themselves ain't too fond of having troops over there [though not as unfond as the spanish], i think that there may be elections coming up over there, and lest we forget the pope ain't behind this war either).

Apparently poll figures show that support has declined in Poland to 35%? Not as near rock-bottom as in Spain, but if an accurate reading, support that measures 1/3 of the populace isn't good.

What matters here is more the fact that the fig-leaf rhetoric justifying the invasion is being specifically criticized from a source that BushCo has hitherto judged as friendly. They can dismiss Spanish criticism to an extent due to a change in government, but there has been no governmental change here. Exactly what does this say, especially after some period of time where BushCo has been apt to try and put the full blame on bad intelligence instead of a political decision, when this occurs? They can't make noises about appeasement here.

ned OTM here. it will be interesting to see what (if any) reaction from bushco there will be from this.
