Since yesterday in Edinburgh we've got really heavy police presence in the centre of town, particularly at the train stations. We normally have no police presence in the town centre.I haven't seen anything about it on the news apart from here,in the Edinburgh Evening News which is pretty local. Plus we had a fighter jet buzz the city about 2-3pm yesterday afternoon. This never happens. In addition my flatmate was talking to a friend of his in london yesterday who saw a commercial 747 escorted in to land by 2 fighter jets.

Yeah, sorry. Not the cheerist start to a thread but I think this is important. Whether it HAS to be on the news or not is another matter for another thread, but I'd like to be kept up to date with stuff like this.

i doubt that my phone's browser will handle that link but I bet that story's about how this is all a cheap plot to raise the terror alert just before election day.

Funny, because CNN is reporting it as a printer cartridge with wires sticking out of it, but was found to have no explosive properties.

NYT: Two packages containing explosive devices originating in Yemen and bound for two places of Jewish worship in Chicago set off a global terror alert that began when one package was found at a FedEx facility in Dubai on Thursday, and then another was found early Friday morning near London, sparking a day of dramatic precautionary activity in the United States.

Ah, thats what I get for not following it closely. I have to be cynical though and at least partially agree with kkvgz, this seems to be getting pretty widespread press that we might not have gotten were this two months ago.
