What the 411 with temping in London? Any agencies anyone can recommend? Briefly I'm 23, good degree, quite good publishing experience, appalling people skills.

Appalling 'people-skills?'...or 'appalling people' skills? The latter will definitely come in handy temping in London.

Current overseer smells like he breakfasted on roquefort before going for a swim in the Thames. I can mix it with the appalling people.

If you can't commit to at least three months temping, you won't get diddly. Even if you only want to do it for a fortnight, tell them you're ooking for 6 months plus.

try covent garden bureau, does more high-end placements, they got me a few months in a barrister's chambers, it was a laugh

fairstaff on oxford st. used to be good at getting you jobs (got my job), but they just lost a big contract with a big hospital trust (where i work now) so may not be so good anymore. think the contract's with Hayes now... no idea where they are based though.

but yeah, whereever you go, tell them you're the shit and want to temp forever, and you'll get a job easy.

I think saying 'Admit I'm the shit' is the way forward. I always have said 'I'm available indefinitely' (which has almost always been true), before jumping ship after a week for a 50p ph raise.

appalling people skills = perfect temp.

one year passes...
temping is so weird, when you temp among other temps. i never bother to connect with them, because they'll be out the door within a few weeks (i, however, somehow have been here 6 months). but there's definitely a connection. it's like being in a resistance movement. we can't acknowledge each other.

If resistance movements were composed of anti-union underminers, yes.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 23 May 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

sorry 'bout that comrade. (i hope you're joking: isn't that a rather corporatist view of union action? protecting the workers against... other workers!)

N_RQ, Monday, 23 May 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

five months pass...
i'm off work tomorrow and friday so just old my boss 'i'll hit you with my timesheet two days before usual.' bad move.
