I'm down home, tho its not home, if I have a home, but its the town we settled in last before the family exploded, and there's a brother and his kid left here living in a house mortgaged to the hilt on our behalf so I guess its the only permanent place likely to feature as we others span the globe in search of better permanence, and Christ its awful. thank god its not home.

the town or just the house

my eldest brother hates the place and immediately declined to remain when we first came here, moving back to the island to stay with family, and always held that instances of mental, physical disorder and the malignant psychic energy of the place were off the scale here. I always probably put that down to his projection of his own unhappiness onto the place but having moved away, each time I come back I feel surer and surer that he's correct. its a stephen king town.

this is belmullet or somewhere like that? i dont think i have been around there, though stories are told
― Little Saint Hugh of Lincoln (nakhchivan), Saturday, 26 July 2014 16:43 (eleven years ago)
and that feels like such a cliche that its just another disappointment on the place rly
I'm sitting in a Costa allied to a tesco waiting for this fella to finish work and I'm desperately hoping to avoid meeting anyone, in vain almost certainly because I was dear god 15 years in the place and its not a big place and everyone comes to tesco on a Saturday and this feels like limbo. or penance.

this is the county town. belmullet is where we go to fight.
fella took us to belmullet for his wedding cos his second cousin owned the hotel and we were under orders to remain indoors, rumours were that they were locked once a roll call had been taken after the pictures, so ....yeah, belmullet.

They would still be aware of their family’s country of origin and the traditions that they are being taught at home. But if you talk to Noe (Baba, the 16 year-old born in Cameroon who has lived and played in Castlebar for the last six years and who has just signed for Fulham) his socialisation is in Mayo. For the lads in Corduff, it’s Corduff. They all have Irish passports and they all feel Irish.

I''m back in my hometown (village tbh) the last two months and it's even more depressing than usual. The main pub has closed down and before you'd at least meet someone you knew to stop and chat but it's deserted now or just kids looking bored hanging around the place.
― everyday sheeple (Michael B), Saturday, 26 July 2014 16:57 (eleven years ago)
Jesus the potential for this place if twas only deserted
― your favourite misread ILX threads (darraghmac), Saturday, 26 July 2014 16:58 (eleven years ago)
at least, with deserted, and with villages, yknow, they're meant to be that way. the island, meant to be that way. I don't know of anything outside a b movie meant to be like this place.
they still lament the loss of the bacon factory in the 80s. that's the type of thing, yknow?

Still lamenting the closure of the tampon factory (90s) in tipperary (with a straight face). Speaking of stopping for chats, some of the older crew round here you'd want to side-step for fear of getting a interrogation
