ADMIN: Is it me, or is ILX really sluggish these days? Pages taking forever to load, etc.

I could be my crappy computer, but I'm not having problems on any other sites, so I'm guessing it's ILX that's slowing down. Sound familiar or accurate?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 21 March 2004 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been experiencing the same thing.

Skottie, Sunday, 21 March 2004 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

me 3

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 21 March 2004 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, a few people I spoke to on IM last night are having similar problems.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 21 March 2004 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Slumber party!!

Aimless (Aimless), Sunday, 21 March 2004 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Very slow. Sometimes I get an error message too accousting me w/some type of British slang I do not understand.

christhamrin (christhamrin), Sunday, 21 March 2004 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I have to keep hitting reload/refresh to get the whole thread. Takes a little while sometimes. This has been the last week or so. It's sticky.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 21 March 2004 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha. Yup, me too. Even this really short thread took a while to pop up.

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 21 March 2004 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Very slow. Sometimes I get an error message too accousting me w/some type of British slang I do not understand.

What part of "Turn back you poxy fule!" you didn't understand?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Sunday, 21 March 2004 17:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, my pages sometimes only half load and I have to refresh quite a few times.

penelope_11, Sunday, 21 March 2004 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

if you wait, they eventually load, refreshing them just puts more strain on the server.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 21 March 2004 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Quite often when I press "back" to go back to New Answers, it only loads the bottom half of the New Answers page. This isn't a recent thing, but doesn't happen on any other sites.

Nick H (Nick H), Sunday, 21 March 2004 17:49 (twenty-two years ago)

It's so slow it's becoming unusable.

Is it time for another of these? I'd spring for a fiver or tenner if need be.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Sunday, 21 March 2004 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I too have noticed this problem but I'm sure Andrew has noticed as well, it's his server! I will await his take on it accordingly.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 21 March 2004 20:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Woah - it just sped up.

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 21 March 2004 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I was noticing that myself! Hurrah!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 21 March 2004 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, it just slowed down again.

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 21 March 2004 21:24 (twenty-two years ago)

you jinxed it

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 21 March 2004 21:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Has anyone contacted Andrew about this? Only I dont think he really reads ilx much anymore. I can IM him and let him know... it does seem pretty overloaded/dying a bit lately. DB flakiness or something maybe? (I mean database not donut bitch heh)

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 21 March 2004 23:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I thought the problem was at my end at first too. But other sites are loading ok. I was just about to start the same thread.

jim wentworth (wench), Monday, 22 March 2004 03:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I'dve let Andrew know but he's not on MSN at the moment... if I see him I'll ask him if anything's up.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 22 March 2004 03:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll ask around at work and see if there are any useful bits going spare.

Ed (dali), Monday, 22 March 2004 07:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd be willing to contribute another $5 to the cause if it meant fewer days like this, filled with sluggishness and hesitation, and more days when the site loads up beautifully.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 22 March 2004 07:54 (twenty-two years ago)

uhh... catherine... uhh... lionel... OHH YEAH

bonnie, Monday, 22 March 2004 07:55 (twenty-two years ago)

that sort of thing is not helping

Ed (dali), Monday, 22 March 2004 08:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I had been experiencing this too, but I figured it was my puter!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 22 March 2004 09:30 (twenty-two years ago)

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 22 March 2004 09:36 (twenty-two years ago)

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 22 March 2004 09:50 (twenty-two years ago)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 22 March 2004 10:12 (twenty-two years ago)

You mean, it being early in the morning and the Americans not getting online yet... ;-)

::crosses fingers::

::crosses fingers also that new computer carries on working and boss remains late::

The River Kate (kate), Monday, 22 March 2004 10:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Americans? I thought that was just a rumour... :)

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 22 March 2004 10:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Work computer working now at a reasonable speed, was rubbish at home this morning though (as it was for most of the weekend).

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Monday, 22 March 2004 10:36 (twenty-two years ago)

It's alright now.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 22 March 2004 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Somebody once said to me 'oh the American internet is bigger & faster than our internet over here.' I had no appropriate response!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 22 March 2004 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

they were right.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 22 March 2004 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

and they waste it by sharing nothing on soulseek other than a couple of country songs and the new Billy Talent album

stevem (blueski), Monday, 22 March 2004 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

that would be funny if we had any idea what you limey bastards were ever talking about.

america (dubplatestyle), Monday, 22 March 2004 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Seems to be working fine this morning. Nicely done.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 22 March 2004 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Sadly, its fine whenever I poke my head in.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 22 March 2004 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)
