todd swiss (eliti), Sunday, 21 March 2004 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

slightly off-topic but i'm aiming to be in Chicago from 27th APRIL to 2nd MAY if anyone FAP then

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 21 March 2004 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I can hang out tomorrow night!

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 25 March 2004 20:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Or possibly Sunday. Just not Saturday -- I have tickets to a play that a friend of mine directed.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 25 March 2004 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

What are you in town for, Stevem? As far as I know, I'll be around for that time.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 25 March 2004 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I gotta visit some friends of mine from that neck of the Forest Park woods. I'll definitely be at the SmartBar a couple of nights to see 2 Many DJs, DFA and John B. I'll probably start a separate thread, but hopefully see people then.

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 25 March 2004 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

DUDES!

I'm all down for a FAP this weekend. Any time. I'm cleaning out my whole crazy schedule for you guys. ha ha. Yeah, so, I've got nothing do. Plus, we need to celebrate jaymc's birthday.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 25 March 2004 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah! You're needed on the four-eared kitten thread! Stat! Seriously, Jeanne Fury is worried about you!

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 25 March 2004 21:40 (twenty-two years ago)

The party's in Milwaukee that weekend, or didn't y'all know.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 25 March 2004 21:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I'm gonna be in chicago from March 28 until April 3. Going to see Sam Prekop and Architecture in Helsinki on April 1st at Empty Bottle. i love AiH.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 25 March 2004 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Phil, tell me about AiH. I thought about going to show because I like Sam Prekop, and my brother offered to get a ticket for me.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 25 March 2004 22:45 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, well they're this uber-twee & cute 10 piece band from melbourne. synths, handclaps, keyboards, la-la-la harmonies, trombones, egg-shakers, horns, guitars, kazoos, drum machines, toy drums, triangles, tambourines. though some of their songs have been remixed by jeremy dower, max tundra, and bogdan raczynski. i love love love them. esoj hates them though. you should come! AiH is the 2nd of 4 bands, so get there early. im so excited about going back to the empty bottle. drinks so cheap!

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 25 March 2004 23:00 (twenty-two years ago)

oh but then i have to drive home. bleh

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 25 March 2004 23:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha, that sounds great!

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 25 March 2004 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes. Let's do something this weekend. We have to make it up to jaymc for somehow missing him at the movie last weekend.

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 26 March 2004 02:06 (twenty-two years ago)

friday sounds good to me!

todd swiss (eliti), Friday, 26 March 2004 02:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Whaddya mean, "we have to make it up to jaymc"? Way I see it, he missed *us.* Damnit, he owes us a beer!

But since we're missing his birthday, it all evens out.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 26 March 2004 03:07 (twenty-two years ago)

The party's in Milwaukee that weekend, or didn't y'all know.
-- Jordan (j0rdanc0h3...), March 25th, 2004 3:43 PM. (later)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The party is SO in Milwaukee! Jordan, you have to tell me what instrument you play so I can try to find you amid all those Nomad yuppie bikers and stinky dogs.

kirsten (kirsten), Friday, 26 March 2004 03:31 (twenty-two years ago)

A party with nomad yuppie bikers and stinky dogs is no party at all.

Verbal (Verbal), Friday, 26 March 2004 03:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, you, shut up about the dogs.

kirsten (kirsten), Friday, 26 March 2004 03:34 (twenty-two years ago)

It's not finally about the dogs. It's about the stink. And the mud. Sounds like there's gonna be mud, too.

Here in beautiful Chicago, everything is paved and only the car exhaust is stinky.

Verbal (Verbal), Friday, 26 March 2004 03:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, "Verbal."

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 26 March 2004 08:09 (twenty-two years ago)

ANYWAYS...we can do tonight no problem. Dudes have our emails and phone nos. and whatnot, so let us know.

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Ugh, I have a bit of a hangover and I'm at work.

Yay, more drinking tonight!

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you guys have a preference for where we should go?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha, I think we're loud enough to drive the smelly dogs out, it's on some St. Patrick shit. I can't make any guarantee about the yuppie bikers though. I'll be one of the drummers btw. :>

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 26 March 2004 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Todd just wrote me & told me to e-mail him about tonight.

It looks like Nick & Sarah are in, and Kenan seemed interested when I saw him last night as well.

We still need to pick a place, though.

I guess it doesn't help that I'm the only one of us who's on ILX all the time. Perhaps you will wander into this thread, though.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 26 March 2004 20:26 (twenty-two years ago)

and glockenspiels

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 26 March 2004 20:47 (twenty-two years ago)

i am on ilx almost all of the time, but my problem is that i dont know bars in the city at all.

todd swiss (eliti), Friday, 26 March 2004 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

What's weird, Phil, is that I thought you already said glockenspiels. I told my brother that I was thinking of going to that show, and mentioned Architecture in Helsinki, and he said oh yeah who are they, and I said, they have lots of crazy instruments like glockenspiels.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 26 March 2004 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Chicago ILXors, check your mail.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 26 March 2004 22:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Boo yah.

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 26 March 2004 23:42 (twenty-two years ago)

For any possible latecomers and stragglers, we decided on Tuman's Alcohol Abuse Center, 2201 W. Chicago, at 8:30.

NA (Nick A.), Saturday, 27 March 2004 01:15 (twenty-two years ago)

this was damn fun.
it was excellent to meet nick and sarah... always nice to see jaymc

chicago ilxors rock the house or something!

todd swiss (eliti), Saturday, 27 March 2004 19:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Why the fuck did I wake up at 8 this morning?

NA (Nick A.), Saturday, 27 March 2004 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

hahaha, you didnt even get your 8 hours!!!

todd swiss (eliti), Saturday, 27 March 2004 21:33 (twenty-two years ago)

is there anything fun going on this week? i dont have a chicago reader handy. what bars do all the kids go to these days? i went to dannys tavern on sunday around midnite but it was mostly empty.

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Really? I don't go to Danny's that often, but it gets pretty crowded when I'm there.

I'm not an expert on where the kids go, though.

I think I will go to that Empty Bottle show on Thursday. And then, if you're still around this weekend, my band is playing an AIDS benefit at the Bottom Lounge on Saturday night.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, my flight back to new york is saturday afternoon. but you're playing with velvetron? i think i saw them last summer at the Ice House or Ice Box or Ice Cooler or something. they weren't bad. see you on thursday though. dont miss AiH.

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 18:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Kirsten, did you end up making it out that night?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yeah, The Ice Factory. I think someone in Velvetron lives there, maybe. Yeah, I've seen 'em once before, and they had a nice jazzy pop sound, even if it was a little unfocused.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah this guy i went to college with lives there. aaron something i think

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 18:13 (twenty-two years ago)

um so do you think this show tonite is going to sell out?? i cant get a hold of my friends so i dunno if im the guestlist or not

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 1 April 2004 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I sort of doubt it. Even though Prekop doesn't play solo that often, the Sea & Cake and Archer play often enough that I can't imagine there's that much demand. And if you're getting there in time for Architecture in Helsinki, I think you should be fine. I think I have a pretty good idea of what you look like. Anything special I should know?

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 1 April 2004 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

you other chi-town hos missed a fun show... right jaymc?

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 2 April 2004 07:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, and you should all meet Phil!

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 2 April 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

blargh, im hungover

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 2 April 2004 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Sarah and I are going to see Blonde Redhead tonight, but it's sold out, so I guess you won't be there. And we're probably going to see jaymc's band tomorrow, but I guess you won't be there either. Oh well.

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 2 April 2004 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah too bad

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 2 April 2004 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Jordan, I didn't! I was planning on going, but then I was stuck at work late and by the time I got home I was really tired. I'll definitely go next time, though. Sorry I missed you.

kirsten (kirsten), Friday, 2 April 2004 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Hi, let's keep the Wisconsinites off this thread, kay? :-)

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 2 April 2004 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

BRH is sold-out? Phil and I had thought about doing that.

Although I have to say, I've heard three tracks from the new album, and all of them were pretty snoozerific. There's like no guitar at all on the album -- which is disappointing, since I think they've always been best at combining that languourous, breathy melancholy with sharp, angular guitar lines. Now it's just bleh.

Have fun, though!

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 2 April 2004 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

yugggh, i had another hot dog and pizza puff for lunch and now my tummy hurts

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 2 April 2004 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

You and the hot dogs!

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 2 April 2004 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Wisconsinites will stay off this thread when yuppie Chicagoans stay out of Wisconsin on weekends.

kirsten (kirsten), Friday, 2 April 2004 19:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Hi, let's keep the Wisconsinites off this thread, kay? :-)

Well, we'll just see if we invite y'all to our next FAP then, won't we? :>

(haha x-post!)

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 2 April 2004 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

ha ha

I'll be in Wisconsin (Madison) for Easter Weekend. BOO YA!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 2 April 2004 19:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Is that next weekend? I'm playing with the Klezbian Wedding Band downtown that Saturday, I think.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 2 April 2004 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

It's the weekend of the 9th, Jordan. Are you a kLezbo?

What's Klezbian?

By the way, jaymc, you know you're just jealous, right?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 2 April 2004 19:34 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a klezmer band that some friends and I put together for the hell of it. Unfortunately we're not real klezbians (not even the female members), but we can hardly be blamed for the way we were born.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 2 April 2004 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

(ha ha, this thread is POISONED)

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 2 April 2004 19:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Blatz and fried cheese curds for everyone!

kirsten (kirsten), Friday, 2 April 2004 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Jealous of WHAT?!?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 2 April 2004 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't heard the new BRH, but I'm excited to, as their last one (Melodies of Certain Damaged Lemons or whatever) is my favorite one, and this one is supposed to continue that trend. I'm pretty sure it's sold out, as when S went to buy tickets after work last night, there were only 7 tickets left, and she bought two of them, and that was at like 6:00.

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 2 April 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Jealous of WHAT?!?

See Kirstin's post, obv. Also, brass bands. And, um...cheap downtown parking!

Note: I would give up a lot of good beer and cheese for Lawrence's Fisheries.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 2 April 2004 20:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't believe you guys had a FAP and didn't take pictures. Lame!

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 2 April 2004 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I know, Chris, I thought about that, too. There's hardly any documentation of Chicago FAPs!

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 2 April 2004 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't worry. There will be more (not meant to be taken as a threat). :)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 2 April 2004 22:00 (twenty-one years ago)

i was tempted to bring my camera to the last one, but then i forgot.

todd swiss (eliti), Friday, 2 April 2004 22:04 (twenty-one years ago)

kirsten, werent u supposed to come visit me this weekend? i might have to stay in chicago a few mroe days. u should come

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 2 April 2004 22:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i might have to stay in chicago a few mroe days.

What's the deal, Phil?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 2 April 2004 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

13 year olds and their mothers.

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 2 April 2004 22:47 (twenty-one years ago)

anything happening in chicago in the next two weeks? i'm flying back to michigan to stay in kalamazoo on thursday, and plan at least 2 days in chicago before i leave on the 18th. if there are any FAPs planned, i'll try to make a point of heading over for them...

(please note that these dates DO NOT correspond to stevem's visit to chicago, since he made his london-US arrangements strictly to annoy me. however, he is very nice, and someone should take him to windy city sweets for a milkshake for me.)

colette (a2lette), Monday, 5 April 2004 09:21 (twenty-one years ago)

hmm. should have posted that when people in chicago are actually awake/at work, huh?

colette (a2lette), Monday, 5 April 2004 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Phil - how long will you be there? I couldn't make it over the weekend because I'm totally broke and also because the person I would have been going with had to play a show on Friday night, and we were really hungover on Saturday. And also, his license plates are expired.

kirsten (kirsten), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

i assure you that chicago people will get something together, just ask jaymc

todd swiss (eliti), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

ha ha I'll be in Wisconsin (Madison) for Easter Weekend. BOO YA!
I'm playing with the Klezbian Wedding Band downtown that Saturday, I think.

dudez. seriously. let us get our shit together for MadFAP 2004. Someone hit me up at the email address here, and let the wild rumpus begin.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Monday, 5 April 2004 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

kirsten, i fly back to new york tomorrow. drats!
