sight

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 03:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Sound. I can sign (sorta), and read, but the thought of being plunged into darkness and the vulnerability that'd leave me with gives me the fear.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 03:41 (twenty-two years ago)

sound

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 03:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd give up sound, too. But very grudgingly.

Believe it or not, I've thought about this for quite a few years, because I've had problems with both my eyes and my ears throughout my life. I think losing either would be a nightmarish scenario; if I had to choose between either losing my eyesight and losing my hearing, I'd probably end up choosing my eyesight, then I'd probably get to the point where I couldn't live anymore because I couldn't see any of the beautiful aspects of life even though I could still hear things. (I do honestly think the loss of hearing would be the more traumatic thing, though.)

I was thinking a few minutes ago how being blind wouldn't be so bad cause then I'd get to have a seeing-eye dog. I could bring him on planes with me!. Also, listening to music while falling asleep is hella more soothing than watching TV.

Don't depress me with making me think about it. Why did I even read this thread? Eep.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 04:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I would give sight NOW. I would rather be born deaf though.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 04:22 (twenty-two years ago)

side-question - sight vs sound: which would you enhance and why?

Sébastien Chikara (Sébastien Chikara), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 04:23 (twenty-two years ago)

give=give up.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 04:23 (twenty-two years ago)

No question, sound. Sound gives me more pleasure overall, I suppose, but the lack of it creates fewer problems with the basics of living.

Learning to sign seems easier than learning to read braille and get around.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 04:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd enhance sight as well, but only because I can hardly see as it is, I'm myopic as a bat.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 04:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I just got approved for a loan to enhance my sight through the magic of lasers.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 04:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd love to enhance my sight through the magic of lasers. I've never been more tired of eyeglasses than I am right now. Though from what I've heard about the procedure, it seems quite challenging for me, seeing as though I have really small eyes and they need to pry open your eyes a certain amount so they can get the suction device in that would allow them to cut the corneas open, but I think at this point I would be willing to go through that just so I can ditch my glasses and get myself a really cool pair of sunglasses.

milo, good luck with your procedure. Tell me how it goes for you, please!

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:33 (twenty-two years ago)

My brother went from legally blind in both eyes to needing just a minor prescription for driving with no downside, so I'm confident that mine won't be a problem.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, then, this is very, very good. :)

When's your procedure scheduled for? Are you anxious? Anticipatory?

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:44 (twenty-two years ago)

(I apologize for sidetracking this thread's discussion, FYI.)

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't set anything up, I wanted to secure funding first. I've got to find a time when I can miss class and work for a couple of days without falling into a pit.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah, ok. Well, I would be highly appreciative if you could at least update me via e-mail [deethelurker(at)satx(dot)rr(dot)com would be the best address here] about the latest developments in this arena. I'm really seriously looking into LASIK surgery and want to get someone else's perspective on/experiences with the whole routine, from consultation to the actual surgery itself.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Sure thing.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Enhance as in improve perceivable frequency range?
I'd choose to enhance sight. infrared and ultraviolet are so much cooler then really high or really low notes.

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 07:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I'd least want to lose my vision. if I were deaf, I could just turn my stereo up 1000x and feel the vibrations through my nose and still have a kind of listen.
