People, (Okay mainly women) who everyone claims are beautiful and/or talented but are neither.

You may disagree but I'm right (In my opinion)

Julia Roberts, cannot see what everyone is on about. minimal talent and looks like a horse. totally overacts!

Darryl Hanna, everyone at school used to swoon over this girl. She has a chin like a wrestler, its huge. Can act a little.

Andie MacDowell, tried to find her attractive, but she's plain, plain plain, no problem with her acting though.

Gweneth Paltrow, no real problem with this stick inscect's looks but talk about overacting! takes herself so seriously her dullness comes right off the screen and hits you.

Samuel L Jackson, face it, he's crap all he does is shout his lines. Can't act for shit.

Kevin Costner, Zero charisma or screen presence.

Kelly, Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:17 (twenty-two years ago)

kevin costner totally has screen presence! bull durham yo

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:19 (twenty-two years ago)

you have no problem with andie macdowell's acting?

g--ff (gcannon), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:21 (twenty-two years ago)

"Andie MacDowell. . . no problem with her acting though"

???

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:21 (twenty-two years ago)

HAHAHA x-post

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:21 (twenty-two years ago)

even her shampoo commercials are cringey

g--ff (gcannon), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll bet Samuel L. Jackson would have great shampoo commercials.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Holly Hunter gets loads of critical acclaim, but I've never understood why (haven't seen the Piano, so maybe that's it?)

I'd pay good money for Samuel L. to fake an orgasm in an Herbal Essences ad.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Raising Arizona maybe?!?!?!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Andie MacDowell pretty much plays the same person in every movie she's in, though, right? So that wouldn't be too taxing on an individual's acting skills.

Julia Roberts' acting skills are decent (certainly better than Gwyneth Paltrow's, IMHO), but yes, she's quite the non-looker. I have little clue why people swoon over her. And I wish filmmakers would prevent her from guffawing in at least one movie she's in, because that's become such an annoying cliche.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:28 (twenty-two years ago)

"Andie MacDowell. . . no problem with her acting though"

Yet another reason South Carolina sucks the big one, along w/ Hootie and Strom. Definitely a triumvirate of eeeeevil

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:29 (twenty-two years ago)

But she was in Groundhog's Day, so surely she's not pure eeeeevil?

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Sex, Lies & Videotape is also good despite her. Make of that what you will.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll bet Samuel L. Jackson would have great shampoo commercials.

Pert Plus, muthafucka! Shampoo and muthafuckin conditioner in one!

Prude (Prude), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:31 (twenty-two years ago)

And who can forget that John Travolta-Andie M classic Michael?

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:32 (twenty-two years ago)

John Travolta has never been in a bad film

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Battlefield Earth?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Classic, of course.

Look Who's Talking was pure comic gold.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the sequel better.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Andie MacDowell played the same person in both Groundhog Day and Michael, though, didn't she? Intelligent, just a bit skeptical and reserved, etc.? I'm not saying it's a bad person -- indeed, I highly adore Groundhog Day and think Michael's kinda good -- but still, it's the same person.

John Travolta has never been in a bad film

Wait -- you actually liked Urban Cowboy, Staying Alive, and Perfect?!

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:38 (twenty-two years ago)

(x-post)One of those series where each installment is greater than the last.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yeah. The Academy really snubbed those three.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Especially Staying Alive.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:39 (twenty-two years ago)

*runs Sarcasm-O-Meter through last two posts*

*Sarcasm-O-Meter beeps furiously*

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:40 (twenty-two years ago)

perfect!!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Sylvester Stallone's a really underrated director.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Look Who's Talking 3 is the Return of the Jedi of talking baby films. It'll be twenty years before they can match it, technology just can't keep up.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:41 (twenty-two years ago)

It's more like the third Samurai film of baby films. It caps the series perfectly. And the cinemascope is awesome.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Plus John Travolta's nostrils are dreamy.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:44 (twenty-two years ago)

she was in "Short Cuts" too, but luckily Altman deployed Julianne Moore's crotch in order to block out the memory of her performance

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:48 (twenty-two years ago)

wait 'stick insect' that's bridget jones isn't it? noooo why do i know that rrrrr

g--ff (gcannon), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 07:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought Marissa Marchant had started this thread.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 07:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Denise Richards is so unhot.

kirsten (kirsten), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 07:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Not to mention untalented.

kirsten (kirsten), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 07:09 (twenty-two years ago)

What??!?!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 07:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Starship Troopers?!?!? Wild Things?!?!? That beauty pageant movie?!?!?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 07:10 (twenty-two years ago)

She disgusts me. I was so happy when she died in Drop Dead Gorgeous.

kirsten (kirsten), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 07:11 (twenty-two years ago)

you mean HER CHARACTER disgusted you.

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 07:13 (twenty-two years ago)

No, it was just her. I'm sorry, kinda.

kirsten (kirsten), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 07:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Holly Hunter gets loads of critical acclaim, but I've never understood why (haven't seen the Piano, so maybe that's it?)

Well, I dunno, I mean, of course she's good in The Piano, but it's exactly the type of role that gets showered with awards ("she says so much without opening her mouth!"), so it's hard to say how actually good she is.

I was mightily impressed, however, with her recent performance in Thirteen -- I'd have been very happy if she'd taken home the Oscar over Zellweger. She's also totally hot, and 45.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 07:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Denise Richards is so unhot.
Not to mention untalented.

Kirsten, I'm building you a shrine for saying this. Thank you. :)

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 07:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I was thinking about Urban Cowboy yesterday ('cause I saw Days of Heaven and read that Travolta had been intended for the Richard Gere role) - great movie - I was thinking about how I wished someone would flirt w/ me via riding a mechanical bull. Or something.

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 07:51 (twenty-two years ago)

"wait 'stick insect' that's bridget jones isn't it? noooo why do i know that rrrrr "

"Stick Insect" is the Derogatory nickname Adrian Mole came up with for his father's girlfriend, Doreen Slater.

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 09:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Andie McD used to be beautiful 20 (25? 30?) years ago when she was a covergirl. Never could act.

Gwynnythyeyyth? Medium. Medium. Medium.

Julia Roberts, not beautiful, yet appealing ntl. I think she can act, although it's getting mannered at this stage, like Meryl Streep. LOok! It's Meryl STreep acting! Act, Meryl, act! Act harder! Act faster! Now slower!

Starr Jones? The perfect package of talent and looks.

Skottie, Tuesday, 23 March 2004 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Darryl Hannah & Andie McDowell = rowr, the rest = meh.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

From what I understand Julia Roberts has a bit of a potty-mouth on her.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

WTF, Samuel L. Jackson can only yell? Did somebody go to the bathroom during the "I'm trying real hard, Ringo" bit of Pulp Fiction?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Or the "now that's a tasty burger!" pre-"say WHAT again!" build-up?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 15:45 (twenty-two years ago)

When I read the title of the thread I immediately thought of Julia Roberts. Then when I read Julia Roberts, cannot see what everyone is on about. minimal talent and looks like a horse. totally overacts!, I checked to make sure I hadn't been the person who posted this thread.

I can't believe no one has mentioned the brilliantly mediocre Renee Zellweger.

dave225 (Dave225), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 15:45 (twenty-two years ago)

mainly women??>>>!>?!?!

himbos to thread!!!

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

DON'T YOU DIS ON ASHTON KUTCHER!

Allyzay, Tuesday, 23 March 2004 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I was actually thinking of Tom Cruise. Ashton's a genius.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Ashton will be this generation's Keanu.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

pic plz. show his "best side".

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Zellweger is actually kind of pretty (when at 'Bridget Jones weight' as described in the Oscar thread), and I didn't know anyone considered her a good actress (Academy Awards notwithstanding - the Oscars are dead to me after Chicago)

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

b-but Renee was in Nurse Betty and is therefore great (or precluded from being totally shit in everything at least)

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

She always looks stoned out of her gourd. Open your eyes a little girl.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

She was also great in "Chicago".

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

At risk of incurring N.'s wrath, why has no-one mentioned Nicole Kidman yet?

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 19:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Because she is actually beautiful and talented, if not always in the right movie (let me take this moment to say "THE HOURS" SUCKED DOG BALLS).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 19:14 (twenty-two years ago)

She's not unattractive, is she? If Renee Zellweger inspires debate, come on...

xpost

dave225 (Dave225), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

She used to be attractive when younger, but now she's too thin and a bit weird looking. I liked her in Moulin Rouge and To Die For, but there's something about her I just don't like. More misses than hits anyway.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 19:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate Amanda Peet and think she is gross looking

Mitchell (Mitchell), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 19:24 (twenty-two years ago)

amanda peet is proof that you CAN sleep your way to the top.

am i the only one who things angelina jolie is atrocious? big ass lips does not a good movie make. im glad the last 5 of her movies have tanked. however, sky captain looks like its the shit so there's some possible redemption on the horizon.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 19:28 (twenty-two years ago)

It's amazing that Amanda Peet managed to be the worst thing about Igby Goes Down. That takes skill.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I think she's hot, but I am widely known to have the worst taste ever (cf MES, oh yeah)

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 07:18 (twenty-two years ago)

You're off the hook for Ruffalo.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 08:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Scarlett Johanssen. Attractive but not particularly talented, IMHO.

Also, Halle Berry, though part of my dislike comes from that hit and run incident.

Denise Richards is not a woman, she is a life-sized plastic Barbie doll. They keep the temperature low when she's on set so she won't melt.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 08:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I hope Charlie Sheen doesn't come after me now.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 08:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to live on the planet where Angelina Jolie and Amanda Peet are gross-looking.

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 08:51 (twenty-two years ago)

you have a fetish for gross-looking wimmin?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 08:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Angelina Jolie: looks too much like her dad. And he ain't attractive. See also Lisa Tarbuck.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 09:23 (twenty-two years ago)

kevin costner, whatever his personal failings, is a really good, really charismatic actor. see "a perfect world"

amateur!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 09:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I really don't rate Angelina Jolie at all (sorry, y'all with impeccable taste who think she's the hottest thing ever - mostly females, if I remember rightly). She has dead eyes.

As for Renee, I had possibly my biggest ever filmstar crush on her in "Jerry Maguire". I know - it seems unbelieveable now. But I did.

Women rated as beautiful are very seldom what I would classify as beautiful. Yasmin Le Bon, for example - HOW DO YOU GET PAST THE CHIN?!? Etc. etc.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 09:48 (twenty-two years ago)

The Coors Light twins - they pass for hott 'n' sexy with American males?

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Angelina Jolie is the nu-Melanie Griffith.

O.Leee.B. (Leee), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Princess Di was ugly.

Chris H. (chrisherbert), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 19:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Neve Campbell. She's not ugly or anything, but I just can't get worked up about her or her one facial expression.

Sengai, Wednesday, 24 March 2004 19:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Kylie Minogue. Even though she was in Street Fighter: The Movie.

rw, Wednesday, 24 March 2004 20:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm pretty sure that I think every woman mentioned on this thread is at least kind of attractive in her own way. Let me check.

Well, I'm not that hot for Gwyneth I guess. Denise Richards seems kind of corny, but she's at least in on the joke. And Julia Roberts as "a beauty" is overrated, and her conventional skinniness doesn't work so much for me, but she seems fun and not too awful a person, if not over-bright, so sure, she's okay.

I have to start hating more!

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Minnie Driver looks like a hamster. I can't believe some class her as good looking. She looks like Sly Stallone.

Rumpy Pumpkin (rumpypumpkin), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 20:29 (twenty-two years ago)

OK. Courteney Cox. There's very little point to her continued existence as a TV/film personality really, is there?

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

dave 225 OTM although i think RZ was pretty good in BJD.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 20:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Minnie Driver, not so hot, kind of a pretty good comic actress.
Courteney Cox, very hot, although I'm not proud of this opinion.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 20:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Courteney Cox is not really still any kind of star is she?

i should add that i think kevin costner can be mighty attractive

has the useless ben affleck been mentioned on this thread already?

amateur!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:01 (twenty-two years ago)

He should be.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i feel bad because ben affleck seems like a reasonably nice and intelligent, albeit hopelessly, even confusedly, self-obsessed, guy... he just happens to be somewhat plain, and a very poor actor

amateur!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Demi fucking Moore.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Courteney Cox is not really still any kind of star is she?

No, apart from being one of the highest paid stars on TV and part of one of the most successful TV shows of all time, I guess not. Silly me.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:08 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry i've seen friends like once, i forgot about that

i forget about tv sometimes

amateur!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:10 (twenty-two years ago)

fwiw, I saw Julia Roberts on Oprah after the Oscars and she was rockin a big ol butt.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought that it would be tiny since that is where her brains are.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Young, hot actresses are all totally hot.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Except for Chiklis.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

julia roberts with a big butt? well, then, I'm back on the bandwagon! thanks for the info, teeny!

and c'mon, EDR, you gotta be able to do better than that...

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't help it, Julia Roberts is just oppressively horrible. Her continued existence pains me.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

"Young, hot actresses are all totally hot."

wisdom passed down through the ages

amateur!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

My daddy told me that one.

On his deathbed.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

he stole it from horace dude

amateur!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Ahhh Horace, the font from which all wisdom must inevitably flow.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:20 (twenty-two years ago)

was his last name really Dude?

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry i've seen friends like once, i forgot about that

I wish I could forget "Friends". Or "Misfits of Science"

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Same difference, really.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:38 (twenty-two years ago)
