and wants about 40 mac formatted floppy disks? I ordered the wrong ones from Staples inadvertently, and they won't take them back, so I'm stuck with them. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

I was wrong, there are 60.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:52 (twenty-two years ago)

wow! if i had a floppy disk drive...

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Are we talking the old 3 1/2" disc kind? I think we have a few users of older Macs around here...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Can't you just reformat them?

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Can't you just reformat the disks for PC?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Can't you reformat them? You can reformat PC disks to use on a Mac, I imagine the reverse is true...(ie I don't have a floppy drive)

Hahahaha

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:54 (twenty-two years ago)

A Greek chorus here!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Dudes, I already covered that!

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:55 (twenty-two years ago)

See but each of us expanded a little bit on the previous post. It's cute.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Also Macs haven't included floppy disk drives since 1997 so it would have to be a very old mac. Who uses floppy disks anyway aren't they just for show?

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 07:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I could, but I can't be bothered.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 07:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Ed, Mac users have been known to hook up external floppy drives to their machines.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 07:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I know, but why?

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 07:24 (twenty-two years ago)

To retain their last sense of non-Jobs' identity?

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 07:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Are floppies more expensive than CDRs these days?

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 08:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I work with people who don't know how to burn anything on cd-rs - even when it's been painstakingly explained to them - so I supply them with disks.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 08:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I think they'd find bullets to be more effective.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 08:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I spent most of yesterday moving files from my old laptop onto an old Mac and then onto a Zip drive before finally transfering them to my new laptop and burning a CD. What a freaking stupid and complicated procedure. I can completely understand having an external disc-drive, in fact, I wish I'd seen this thread yesterday before all the disc-swapping and the burning... :-(

(Yes, there are more computers in my house than people. Why do you ask?)

Psycho Kate (kate), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 09:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm more curious why you didn't just connect the two laptops.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Because one is a Mac and one is a PC. I'm not quite good enough at networking to pull that one off!

Psycho Kate (kate), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

erm sure the reason is pc laptop one doesn't have a network card?

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, true, what Ed said, as well, even if my networking skills were that good!
