So what's it gonna be? Is it cool to rearrange your whole living room and go out and buy little window plants of Indonesian breed just because your hippy aunt from San Fransisco or wherever gave you a book for Christmas? Or is it the whackness?

If you actually believe in "Chinese energy flows", dud.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

no, energy flowing is classic (it's just a way to explain a very subtle relationship between things), it's the new agey type people that are dud.

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

eh?

Jay Kid (Jay K), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

that's like saying patchouli is awesome but hippies suck

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 20:38 (twenty-two years ago)

feng shui merchandise (like books and music) is dud

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 20:39 (twenty-two years ago)

music????

Jay Kid (Jay K), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, I've got some bad cd called "Soothing Feng Shui Music" (or something like that) and it's really not too good. It's 5 songs, one for each of the elements.

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 20:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Coffeetable music?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 20:43 (twenty-two years ago)

"music to sit at coffee tables to"

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 20:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Mein Gott. Sounds lame-ish

Jay Kid (Jay K), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 21:00 (twenty-two years ago)

"music to sit at coffee tables to" = trip hop, surely.

O.Leee.B. (Leee), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 21:01 (twenty-two years ago)

breaking, DJing, emceeing, graffiti, drinking coffee

scissors (Honda), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

looking sour&mysterious

Jay Kid (Jay K), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

But seriously, the basic idea behind Feng Shui is really something great. It's just the method some people take to get there that's a little kooky sometimes.

A Nairn (moretap), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 07:10 (twenty-two years ago)

everybody feng shui tonight

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 07:39 (twenty-two years ago)

A Nairn, are you trying to differentiate between people who see it almost as a religious, spiritual thing and those who see it as just some logical, guiding principles?

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 07:44 (twenty-two years ago)

From a feng shui faq: "Feng Shui can create a harmonious environment that improves a person's health, the clarity of mind and alertness."

A smart home ergonomic design can achieve that sans superstitions, beliefs & misconceptions.

Some keywords that made me chuckle while reading about feng shui: "geomancy", "Yin and Yang", "compass", "energy".

Sébastien Chikara (Sébastien Chikara), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 08:12 (twenty-two years ago)

hmmm, not really. I'm trying to differentiate between the people who see how it really works (possibly by treating it as a spiritual thing) from those who see it as part of a fun way to be different and like to "look towards the east" or as a maketable desinging fad. The first being classic the second being dud.

I'm no feng shui practicer, but I did a good amount of caligraphy, and taking it seriously with clearing my thoughts and really meditating on the space of the page and brush marks, makes the results so much better. And I guess one way to discribe the subtle astetic relationship is as "energy flow" and etc.

A Nairn (moretap), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 08:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I just think that feng shui and other easten spiritual pratices/hobbies don't translate too well into the west and they are too often trivialized in the process.

A Nairn (moretap), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 08:46 (twenty-two years ago)

A brain-scan while meditating would have revealed an unusual activity in your posterior parietal lobe, the orientation association area - or OAA. That could explain the difference in your performance without having to talk about "energy".

Sébastien Chikara (Sébastien Chikara), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 09:00 (twenty-two years ago)

"orientation"

O.Leee.B. (Leee), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 19:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Not ALL hippie aunts live in San Francisco.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Mine lives in Mill Hill.
