I'll be down on 23 April if anyone fancies a pint.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 09:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Of course everyone fancies a pint! At all times, in all places. You're guaranteed a big crowd, and possible water-pistol fights.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 09:29 (twenty-two years ago)

You're not guaranteed quite as big an attendance as you might have been as several of us are in NYC for the first ever!! (is it?) ILX wedding. Sorta.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 09:43 (twenty-two years ago)

yay! pint! i'll make sure i put on weight to make it a big crowd

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 09:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Who's getting hitched?

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 10:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Vicky and Chris. Both British, both fleeing extended family by tying the knot in the US.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 10:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Aww lovely. If i were to tie the knot i'd have to do something similar, i have a very big and very awful family on my father's side.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 10:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought they were married already!

No, not being facetious, honestly! I thought you two got married in Spain or something. Am I not paying attention?

Psycho Kate (kate), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

?? No Kate!

Vicky (Vicky), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

there was a stag do in Bilbao...

Hello, we need to organise loads of stuff

chris (chris), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry we won't be here Leigh, I'm sure the rest of them will take care of you ;0)

Vicky (Vicky), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 10:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Oops, sorry, forgive me, Vicky and Chris, I honestly thought it had happened already! I have a hard enough time keeping track of mine own love life. ;-)

Psycho Kate (kate), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Yep, Chris & Vicky are going to New Yoik to buy trainers get married! ;-)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 10:54 (twenty-two years ago)

So FAP New York Thread please...

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

coming soon to an ILe near you, yes

chris (chris), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

there is one already, it just needs bringing back to life, and a venue choosing

Vicky (Vicky), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:36 (twenty-two years ago)

oh god, don't expect the septics to organise something more than 24 hours before it happens, i've read their so-called FAP threads before ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Scoff, like we'd ever do that

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:47 (twenty-two years ago)

We're not expecting them to organise it, just give some good suggestions, and have a concensus as to where it should be. Oh, wait....

Vicky (Vicky), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Was thinking about going here. http://www.fancyapint.com/thepubs/pub13.htm#

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah thats a nice one. I'll be around then anyway.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll be back from the states then, so i'll probably be along!

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Rah, this is a Friday! Okay then... pub looks good as well.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

should be able to stumble the 30 seconds from the office door.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Nice pub that.

Ricardo (RickyT), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

The link says "The whole area tends to get mobbed on Friday nights with workers from the local offices" and this is a Friday. Then again, good empty pubs aren't easy to find in Central London on a Friday night.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

should be able to stumble the 30 seconds from the office door.

ed tell your work colleagues to find a different pub!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 21:31 (twenty-two years ago)

(unless they buy us pints)

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 21:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Should I make clear that I wasn't saying avoid this pub, Ed might be there?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 21:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm meeting my host for the weekend at about six in soho so we should get there about half past.

leigh (leigh), Monday, 19 April 2004 09:40 (twenty-one years ago)

We tend not to drink in their, it being sam smiths. King and Queen or crown and sceptre for us.

Ed (dali), Monday, 19 April 2004 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

It doesn't have to be there, i think i'm staying pretty close to goodge st so the king and queen might be better.

leigh (leigh), Monday, 19 April 2004 13:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Ignore Ed he is hating on the Jolly German.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 19 April 2004 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Ed is not to be trusted on matters pub related. Yorkshire Grey is a nice pub.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 19 April 2004 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

23 April, a Friday? Cross your fingers, London...

Barima (Barima), Monday, 19 April 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

are you back in town then? i won't be until May 3 tho.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 19 April 2004 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Like I said, cross dem fingas (same goes for May 3).

Barima (Barima), Monday, 19 April 2004 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Bah, looks like I'm going to miss another one. I have plans already for Friday, but I know there will be other FAPportunities.

Daniel (dancity), Monday, 19 April 2004 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

JOLLY GERMAN PLEASE.

I have severe thirsties this week, probably a new job thing.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 19 April 2004 17:36 (twenty-one years ago)

We might be a bit later than 6.30 as we're grabbing a quick meal beforehand here. http://www.toptable.co.uk/details.cfm?rid=1596

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 08:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Bump.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I shall be there at aorund 6.30 thirsty for booze.

Dave B (daveb), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be there fairly early, as usual - probably by 6.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i've been convinced all week that the 23rd was next friday (where did april go?). but i'll almost certainly be there, anyway.

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

See you all tomorrow. I'd post a photo but thankfully very few exist. I'm about 5ft 8 and scottish with long dark wavy hair and should be in by about 7.30 ish.

leigh (leigh), Thursday, 22 April 2004 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Do not fret Leigh, that will make themselves known!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 22 April 2004 11:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Oi have a birthday thing to go to in Greenwich that night but I will be along from early doors and should still hopefully see you there! I will turn up when Martin does, probably :)

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 22 April 2004 11:18 (twenty-one years ago)

and if anybody fancies dancing afters, check out this bitch at the Buffalo Bar outside Highbury and Islington stn.

i've never been but it sounds good, and promised a glittering mix of bedroom indie, northern soul, new wave, girl groups, sixties pop, indie pop and motown.

cor.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 22 April 2004 11:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude - I totally fancy that! But will be in Greenwich by then! MAN!

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 22 April 2004 11:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Holy shitters! Check out the playlist!

http://spearmint.net/fadedglamour/images/playlist.gif

I am so there.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 22 April 2004 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Elevator not pictured.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 23 April 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

D'oh.

Charlie from Busted sings exactly like him. It disturbs me now that I've noticed that, and I can't get it out of my head when I hear him.

GODDAMN STOP WITH THE X-POSTS!!! Though it would be pretty funny if Charlie sang like *Dan* Perry. "Figaro! Figaro! Figaro! ::insert fart joke::"

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 23 April 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

so ends today's lesson on famous Perry's.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 23 April 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

You forgot Chris Perry, though:

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 23 April 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

matt D c. hahahaha!

toby (tsg20), Friday, 23 April 2004 22:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Lovely to meet plenny lovely peeps last night. My fucking head fucking hurts. Thoughts on Faded Glamour? Bit...bitty sez I.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Saturday, 24 April 2004 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

My head hurts too. Charlie, I've said this before and I'm sure I'll say it again, but we really didn't need those last two beers.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Saturday, 24 April 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Everything was lovely and stuff, aside from the fact that my voice is now fucked beyond measure. Lemsip unto the future...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 24 April 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

hey to those I meet at Faded Glamour

Paul

Sean Carter (roc), Sunday, 25 April 2004 04:39 (twenty-one years ago)

we really didn't need those last two beers.

that's some crazy talk! i felt kinda decadent. and then very swiftly a bit silly when the lights came up a full 15 seconds after the purchase. meh.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Sunday, 25 April 2004 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

mmmm i had a double barrel tiger action (aka tiger tiger) going on at faded glamour. drunkeness resulted. but what fun!

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 25 April 2004 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Toby's post gives me the fear. Thanks for that D-related sabotage. I feel violated.

How was the schmindie disco? Anyone know where I can get two cheap burkas in London?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 26 April 2004 07:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I cannot remember a lot of this night. I don't remember getting fried chicken or fact going home, but waking up in my bed on Saturday with fried chicken boxes and Dr Who videos on prominent display in the living room is pretty damming evidence.

Yet still, I woke up hangover free!!!

God bless the Fat Man.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 26 April 2004 07:35 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry i missed the fap, but had fun escaping southern comedy with charlie for the indie disco. it was fun! not exactly dance-y, but nice to stand around and chat and look at the planetarium thingy on the wall.

even though i had that custard vodka shot, as well as several mixed drinks as well as a load of wine at the comedy, i don't think i was nearly as hammered as most of the rest of you.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 26 April 2004 09:44 (twenty-one years ago)

(BTW, Matt, I'm not sure I'll be back this week either. And if not this week, then that's probably it til July. OTOH, I can probably start that Ghana Thread soon)

Barima (Barima), Monday, 26 April 2004 10:01 (twenty-one years ago)

That was one of the best FAPs since the last excellent FAP. I still think it might have been an idea to spend more time... outside.

We worked out what a Problematic is.

the bellefox, Monday, 26 April 2004 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Sarah..YOU made me go to the chicken shop. You do remember. You're just pretending you don't. Then you made me stay up to watch Brain of Morbius. Matt, apparently Turnpike Lane might be good for the burkas/ hijabs. I spent most of the FAp convinced I'd not drunk enough to be drunk, but I now know this to be untrue.

alix (alix), Monday, 26 April 2004 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

You should have taken the opportunity to have pushed me in the road and finished my sorry sham of a life right there and then.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 26 April 2004 12:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Good FAP! Except I've already forgotten all the Cantonese Ken was so painstakingly teaching me. Oh, well.

cis (cis), Monday, 26 April 2004 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Jesus I remember the "Brain of Morbius" episode - gave me nightmares for weeks as a kid. I now have a permanent fear of large, headless hairy beasts.

Yeah, good fun. Some friends from IRL came along too, but they got too drunk on Absynthe beforehand and had to make an early exit...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 26 April 2004 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

why does matt need burkas?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 April 2004 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

He is going to invade crouch end and set up a fundamentalist state.

Ed (dali), Monday, 26 April 2004 12:52 (twenty-one years ago)

NB: Fundamentalistr state: everyone will have to dress like Fun Da Mental or wear a burka.

Ed (dali), Monday, 26 April 2004 12:52 (twenty-one years ago)

It was a good FAP apart from:

- The Goffs upstairs avoiding the sun - you menkos. It was the first day of summer, with the sun shining. At the risk of sounding like a parent, you should have been outside enjoying the sun rather than all cooped up in a darkened room.

- I was drunk very quickly; by the time my mate arrived at 8, I was drunk and ranty. Ooops.

- Badger Kitten did not get to meet any of you as you were all tucked up upstairs, and when we came upstairs, there was no room.

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 26 April 2004 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Badger Kitten met me, and Ed and Sarah and Toby and Lixi, I think. The non-goff outside drinking contingent, in other words. Also it was nice to meet Leigh and friends - can't believe you know Melissa - is it true that there are only actually 100 people on the Modern Interweb?

Dave, you may have been drunk and ranty but your mate offered to buy me beer in thanks for the freya link. And I think you called me 'comrade' at one point.

Good turnout as well considering loads of people were in NYC.

Re: burkas - the question could also be extended to the easy availability of lederhosen in this city.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 26 April 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

and you would know about that because?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 April 2004 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

lederhosen and mortarboards. You get me,DC?

alix (alix), Monday, 26 April 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

bellefox we did indeed work out what a problematic is it's true but we FORGOT TO WRITE IT DOWN :(

i also realise i did not meet any of the ppl i had not already met, for which multi-apologies)

mark s (mark s), Monday, 26 April 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Ditto to Mark's last sentence. I was pleased to be indoors because a) we had chairs! b) there were crods of people standing around outside already when I arrived, and c) I burn astoundingly easy, and have been majorly ill with sunstroke more than once, so tend to avoid the sun.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 26 April 2004 17:07 (twenty-one years ago)

c won't wash Martin - I'm a closet ginger and burn on cloudy days. It was enjoying the expansive delight of the sun going down and the open air; the sun had gone behind buildings IIRC anyway...

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 26 April 2004 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Probably the nicest outside drinking spot in central London as well.

Ed (dali), Monday, 26 April 2004 17:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I meant that it makes being out in the sun generally less appealing - I didn't check where the shade was that evening.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 26 April 2004 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

i think once the hordes of office suited people outside were gone, going out to the sun was urgent + key. but then again i've been to enough of these faps to remember that you guys get SCREAMISH when you're more than 2 feet away from that fat man! (or the D-man in matt's case)

haha cis oh my god yeah i almost forgot the rediscoverment of my childhood with the kenji book!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 26 April 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

four weeks pass...
Looks like i'll be back down soon with my mum in tow, not sure she'd be up for a FAP though.

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

ilx mums FAP

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

PLEASE YES

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, bring your mum - it'd be nice to have a woman of my generation at a FAP.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 11:21 (twenty-one years ago)

My mum's 57.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Crikey this FAP now feels like a lifetime ago.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 11:35 (twenty-one years ago)

57 = closer to my age than vast majority (75-80% I'd say) at normal FAPs!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

matt get a hold of yourself it hasn't happened yet

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 18:56 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
I'll be down from 5th November till 7th November - i'm seeing Neil and Tim Finn on 5/11 and Caetano Veloso on 6/11 but will be free on the Sunday.

leigh (leigh), Friday, 11 June 2004 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh! Where's Mr. Veloso playing?

Tim (Tim), Friday, 11 June 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you late or just super organised?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 June 2004 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

He's playing the Barbican on 5/11 & 6/11.

leigh (leigh), Friday, 11 June 2004 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

is this a new record?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 11 June 2004 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes.

CarsmileMcWhirter (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 11 June 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 June 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, i'm a bit over-excited about going to see Caetano Veloso.

leigh (leigh), Friday, 11 June 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh no! this is something of a disaster for me because I'd love to see CV but I really really want to go home to see the tar barrels this year and they're on the 5th. Nightmare. I wonder if Caetano's touring. I wonder if I can take the chance on him coming back?

Tim (Tim), Friday, 11 June 2004 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)
