Meaning, between the time you wake up and the time you leave for work, what do you do?

57 7th (calstars), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:14 (twenty-two years ago)

For many people this is the fundamental question of our age:

Is is:
Shower-shit-shave
shit-shower-shave
shave-shit-shower
shit-shave-shower
shower-shave-shit
or
shave-shower-shit.

(Anyone who shits last is wrong).

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

ADAM AND JOE TO THREAD!

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

What about people who shave in the shower? Or people who...

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

What, shave while shitting?

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

up, loo, Shake Amber (6) a bit, wake Alice (4) up, we go downstairs and turn on Channel 5 (Hi-5). Put kettle on, give Alice squeezy yoghurt. Go back upstairs, shake Amber a bit more, wake Dawn (wife) if she's not up yet. make 2 cups of tea. Back upstairs, now drag amber outtabed, end up carrying her down. Alice is now all "Hello Amber", Amber is all "Mmmgggh". Eat breakfast, give amber squeezy yoghurt. Get dressed, then we dress kids, then all off to work/school/nursery...

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

You can plan your digestive day to the point where you shit on demand in the morning? Whoa.

Psycho Kate (kate), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

you shouldn't shit in the morning so that you can have a shit-break during work.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Save time by pooing in the shower.

There you go Sara.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

You should shower after a shit; you should shave after a shower. Any fule no.

My morning movement was intimately connected with my first fag; couldn't go until I'd had a fag (cannot believe am typing this on interweb). No fags anymore, so sometimes morning movement is not done.

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:29 (twenty-two years ago)

shit-shower-shave. without fail every weekday/work morning.
occasionally i'll omit the shave part.
the order is unpredictable on weekends.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Got up, got out of bed, dragged a comb across my head.

(SPOT THE DELIBERATE MISTAKE)

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

6am Wake up all nice and bright
6.01am Put on a goth record and dance for two hours to songs about doom

8am Shit, shower, shave and off to work

Mikey G (Mikey G), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Am I the only one who checks ILX before I leave the house?

Nick H (Nick H), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sure there are people on ILX who never leave their houses...

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

thats me!

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

my morning routine? sleeping till noon, preferably.

(don't manage it on a daily basis, alas, but it's frequent enough to call it a "routine". i'm afraid)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Whizz, breakfast, brush teeth (I phear the lack of dental hygene habits here!), poop, shower, sometimes shave.

O.Leee.B. (Leee), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)

what is this "work"?

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Thursday, 25 March 2004 02:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Hahaha

jim wentworth (wench), Thursday, 25 March 2004 03:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Am I the only one who checks ILX before I leave the house?

Oh heavens no.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 25 March 2004 03:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Hit snooze thrice (adjusted to 3min intervals), masturbate with horrifying little girly whimpers, a few glasses of juice + strawberries w/ sugar + a Centrum vitamin, smoke while shitting, shave (electric) and brush, shower, mousse, blowdry, [confidential] body spray all over my body, 30 pushups + 15 situps, a little bit of dancing to mp3s + bizarre primal whooping to pump myself up while checking the news, post a few psychotic posts to the internet, put on some clothes, out the door to get a light cheap breakfast, I am all good.

This is how you beat depression: don't stop moving for a fucking SECOND. Trust.

LC, Thursday, 25 March 2004 03:37 (twenty-two years ago)

shower, dress, read email, leave house

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 25 March 2004 03:38 (twenty-two years ago)

That's cool too.

LC, Thursday, 25 March 2004 03:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Pull myself out of bed. Do the essentials, walk to work, get coffee, read the news, and I'm good to go. BTW, no shower, just a tub in my house, and would be hard pressed to change it.

jim wentworth (wench), Thursday, 25 March 2004 03:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Put on slippers; turn computer on; get kettle of water going on the stove and set out tea and oatmeal; feed cats; log on and get email; pour hot water onto oatmeal and tea; read bookmarks and yahoo news; eat oatmeal and drink tea; brush teeth; put on old pants and flannel; walk three or four miles with iPod on; check official mileage on Delorme program; note on iTunes which songs were great and which ones sucked; shower; get dressed; pack lunch; lock door.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Thursday, 25 March 2004 04:10 (twenty-two years ago)

wake up, check email/ilx/livejournal, feed cat, have shower, decide if i'm going to uni or not. Either leave house or sit on net for most of the day doing small chores throughout.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Thursday, 25 March 2004 04:13 (twenty-two years ago)

My morning routine:

Wake up to beeping of alarm clock, get up, take shower, get dressed, brush teeth, sit down to ILX (or some other online activity) and morning TV for awhile, pick up stuff, dash on off to work. Sometimes I'll fit in eating something somewhere in there. Repeat except during days ending in -aturday or -unday. :)

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Thursday, 25 March 2004 04:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Awake, brush teeth, shower optional, clothes, chug orange juice from the carton until I have to gasp for breath, grab semi-random stack of CDs, go. Elapsed time...w/ shower = 20 minutes, w/o shower 5.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 25 March 2004 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Shit, shower, shave, dress, check email, check ILX, go to work.

If I'm away from home with work, the order alters somewhat to shower, shave, mostly dress, breakfast (checking ILX during it), shit, put on tie, go to work.

Weekends are impossible to predict, except that shave is unlikely to feature. (or put on tie or go to work, obv)

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 25 March 2004 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Awake to Today programme at 0650, stay in bed til after 0700 headlines, have shower, get dressed, make tea and toast, eat while reading book/paper and listening to the radio, clean teeth, attend to hair and skin, pack bag (making sandwich first if time), say goodbye to Matt who is probably still in bed, leave house at 0805 or thereabouts, wait for/run for bus depending on time management. Arrive at work c. 0850.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 25 March 2004 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

up at eightish, stretch, gym / run, out for newspaper, breakfast whilst reading, at some point about half way through my second cup of tea I'll realise it's high time I took a shower, shower, shave, iron clothes, another cup of tea, get to work feeling thoroughly relaxed at about twelvish

Matt (Matt), Thursday, 25 March 2004 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Three days a week, I get up at 5:15, dig around on the floor for something that's not dirty enough to be truly offensive, brush my teeth, put my hair in pigtails, put on a scarf, pop a cd in my discman and get out the door just in time to have a cigarette before the bus comes at 5:35.
The other four days, I do pretty much the same thing except I get up later.

kirsten (kirsten), Thursday, 25 March 2004 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Wake around 7, cuddle wife for about ten minutes, get dressed, head downstairs, feed Emily (quietly purring) and Sophie (miaowing loudly), make cup of tea and breakfast for wife and take it to her in bed, back downstairs for whatever breakfast I feel like having, plus shaving, tidying hair (never look in a mirror) etc. Pack lunch for work, pack wife's lunch, help her get dressed ("Where's my boots? Can you iron my trousers?" etc), quick visit to the bathroom and last kiss and cuddle with wife before heading out of the door. Walk to train station, usually on 7:54 or 8:04 train from Newport to Cardiff, in work by 8:30 to start at 8:45.

That's weekdays anyway.

Rob M (Rob M), Thursday, 25 March 2004 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

as much as i detest routine, i came to perfect a morning ritual that allows me to stay in bed as long as possible yet still arrive to work in time and decently rested.

turn off alarm clock - spring out of bed, heart still beating fast (the alarm clock always does this to me) - steamy shower, dream reminiscing : 15 min. - make up : 3 min. - blowdry, brush hair : 7 min. - get dressed, put toasts in the toaster, feed cat : 5 min. - walk around the living room, eating toasts, picking up things: 5 min. - brush teeth while petting cat with my feet, lace up my boots, rush down the stairs, run to the bus. TOTAL : 40 min.

chomisan, Thursday, 25 March 2004 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Alarm goes off at 7.39. Hit snooze 4 times, get up at 8.17. Put on dressing gown, walk to shower.

Brush teeth, sometimes use mouthwash, have shower (washing head and face first, the torso, then feet, then give face a final splash and brush water off body). Towel myself off, apply shaving oil, shave, dry off, return to bedroom.

Put on underwear, then moisturise face. Apply deodorant, get dressed, clock-watching all the while so that I can leave by 8.42.

Walk across corner of Barnes common to Barnes station. Await train. Sit in 1st class carriage, listen to iPod, read one day scripts for work, the next whatever book I have on the go. Arrive at Waterloo, change onto Bakerloo line, disembark at Piccadilly Circus, walk up to Brewer street, past GHS to Wardour Street.

Make coffee and cereal, log onto ILX.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 25 March 2004 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Alarm goes off at 7:00. Tell the dog 1 to go back to sleep. Hit snooze until 7:30, all the while telling the dog 1 to go back to sleep. Drag self out of bed, visit loo, tell the dog 2 to stop jumping on me, wake Spencer up. Tell dogs 1 and 2 to stop jumping on him. Feed child and dogs 1 and 2, get in shower. Get out, tell dog 2 to stop licking shower door. Dress, apply makeup, tell dog 1 to stop sitting on Spencer's clothes, tell Spencer to put his clothes on. Dry hair, tell Spencer to put his pants on, tell dog 1 to give the shoe back. Take dogs 1 and 2 out, tell Spencer to put his shoes on. Find purse, keys, cell phone, throw tennis ball for dog 1 and give dog 2 a chew toy. Locate and pick up Spencer's backpack, tie his shoes, pat dogs 1 and 2 on head, out the door.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 25 March 2004 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

three years pass...
So..

Has yours changed? Or, what is it (now)?

Mark G, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 09:54 (eighteen years ago)

On weekdays I generally wake up at about 5.30am, five minutes before the alarm goes off (maybe my brane has own special inbuilt alarm!). Get up straight away (I am annoyingly cheerful of a morning), let the dog out, feed the dog his breakfast, feed the cats, feed the rabbits and guinea pigs, feed the chickens and collect the eggs.

If Mr Unruly is on an early shift for work, I'll make him a cup of coffee and a slice of toast and take this up to him while he struggles to wake up, then iron him a shirt and make him a packed lunch to take. If he's on a late shift he gets to stay asleep and I have to remember not to allow any loud noise in the house which might wake him.

30 minutes on the exercise bike or rowing machine, then into the shower. Wrap up in cuddly bath robe and have a cup of tea, sat at the kitchen table for ten minutes while watching GMTV on telly and planning what I have to do that day. Around 6.30am I start to wake the children, and then there's a fairly hectic hour of naggging them to get up, cooking their breakfast, clearing away and washing up, drying my hair, getting dressed, slapping on my make-up, deciding which earrings will go best with this dress, loading and/or unloading the washing machine, packing my bag, making sure the kids have remembered to put everything they need for the day in the car i.e. last night's prep, violins, PE kit, what do you mean it's Cressy's birthday and you need to take her a card and a present, why couldn't you have told me that yesterday, go and look in the cupboard and see what's there and can you please HURRY UP, please turn that music down you're father's trying to sleep, have you made your beds, right come on gang it's 7.30 let's go ....... and it's into the car and off to school (collecting two other children en route), and then in to work for me, arriving any time between about 8.15 and 9.00 depending on how awful the traffic has been.

C J, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 10:22 (eighteen years ago)

Wow!

Dr.C, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 10:25 (eighteen years ago)

6:30 wakes up
8:55 get up, put on clothes, brush teeth
9:05 walk out door

Ste, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 10:27 (eighteen years ago)

I forgot to mention cleaning my teeth! which is odd, because I do this three times during the course of the morning before I leave the house. Having freshly-cleaned teeth is a borderline obsession of mine. I ought to buy shares in Colgate, really.

C J, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 10:30 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, now Amber is nine and Alice six. Alice used to be a right chirpy waker, now she's the 'hard to stir' person. Anyway, now it's:

07:00 Wake, loo, go down put porridge in microw, make tea, go up wake wife if not up yet, have porridge and tea, go up 07:20 shake kids (both usually wake OK), breakfast the kids (Alice is Bread & Honey, Amber is Cookie Crisp), Go up get dressed, go up get dresses (summer) for kids, Wife is dressed and leaves for work, I drop kids w/ someone down the road to take to school unless it's Friday in which case it's my turn to take more kids to school. And then to work.

Roll on another 3 years in the future...

Mark G, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 10:31 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, and we don't put the kids TV progs on now, as Alice turns into someone from that RobinWilliams film (Awakenings?)

Mark G, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 10:32 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, it's so lovely living by myself. No waiting for the shower or the kettle or whatever.

8:00 alarm goes off
8.10 hop in shower
8.25 get dressed
8.35 tea and muselix, read Country Life
8.50 amble about the house getting stuff together
9.00 leave house
9.15 train

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 10:37 (eighteen years ago)

Mine is like clockwork and rather dull so I won't go through it blow-by-blow. I jump straight out of bed at 6.30 unless I'm working at home, when it's nearer 7. Shower etc follows. Feed cats, make GIANT pot of tea, eat breakfast, walk down to the shop to get a paper. Now the kids are older it's much less stressful and they do their own breakfast and get their school stuff sorted out without assistance. Usually there's an alarm clock malfunction which requires me to wake one of them up though. I am pretty good in the mornings and easily able to cope with variables such as lost trainers/last minute requests for money/lost hairbrushes/lost art folders/lost Oyster Cards etc. These occur every single day. The missus is another variable - she may be up anytime between 5 and 8, depending on whether she's working or not. She is not good in the mornings, so I may make her breakfast if I am feeling kind. Kids leave for school at 8, daughter on foot, son on train. I tend to wander off about the same time, either by car or train.

Dr.C, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 10:53 (eighteen years ago)

i forgot
8:56 check downloads on computer

Ste, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 10:54 (eighteen years ago)

Mine is state secret. You never know who's reading.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 10:55 (eighteen years ago)

in that case, i lied.

Ste, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 10:56 (eighteen years ago)

that nice tidy schedule above assumes that I've not got a hangover, or have been out late the night before, and assumes it's not monthend. Any of these things can put the schedule off by half an hour to a couple of hours.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 11:01 (eighteen years ago)

Radio comes on at 7, we spend 20 minutes waking up. Then Mister M gets up and has his shower. He goes downstairs and makes breakfast while I get up. Feed cats, feed goldfish, eat lovely breakfast made by Mister M, read stuff on internet.

8.30am, pile dogs and Mister M into car, drop Mister M off at the train station, park the car and bring dogs for a walk.

10am, come home, feed dogs, fire up the work PC, have a shower, start work.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 11:46 (eighteen years ago)

When all goes according to plan:

0700 - alarm, Today on the radio
0709 - news bulletin ends, get up, drink orange juice and tea, tidy up the flat
0740 - shower
0750 - clean teeth
0755 - do various preparatory things to face and hair
0805 - variety of body lotions and gels
0810 - dress
0815 - blow dry and style hair
0825 - make up
0835 - transfer stuff from yesterday's handbag to today's, put on coat and shoes, make bed if running early
0840 - leave home

But I can just do the essential bits of this starting at 0810 and still leave home on time if necessary.

Madchen, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:26 (eighteen years ago)

Up anywhere between 5 and 8:30, start coffee, check email and fantasy league standings, drink coffee and check daily internets sites (comics, news, political blogs, personal blogs, ILX), maybe take a shower and maybe not, start "work" about 10.

Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:27 (eighteen years ago)

i get up at either 5, 5:30, 6, 6:30 or 7 depending on my work day and whether i give a shit about being at work on time. Today I woke up at 7, since I don't really care. I then immediately take a shower (No shitting on command here!) for a really long time, like at least 20 minutes. I have tried to cut this shower down to 10 minutes but I can't seem to? I think my deep conditioning methods are what takes so dang long. Then I get out and make a cup of tea in my bathrobe and/or towel, while kettle is getting hot I go pick out an outfit, then pour the hot water, then get dressed while the tea is steeping. I then take my tea in front of the computer and concentrate on de-knotting my hair while checking e-mail, ilx, and other things. Combing my hair seems to take like 20 minutes, it's usually really knotty. Then I put on my makeup, spritz perfume, apply deodorant, and go into the kitchen to gather up food for the day (today it will be yogurt, apple, water, and another thing I have yet to decide). Then I brush my teeth while making the final walk-thru to make sure I didn't forget anything. THEN I LEAVE YAY

homosexual II, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:48 (eighteen years ago)

I am in in awe of CJ.

5:30 up, change into grubby clothes
5:45 walk the dogs
6:15 wash up, change for work (usually shower the night before)
6:30 eat toast, read paper
6:50 brush teeth, grab bag, out the door
7:01 bus
