I use to shave my head. In high school.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

if you have sideburns, do not shave completely bald. buzz only down so that the rest is at an equal length.

Kingfish Cowboy (Kingfish), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

i shaved it once around aged 21-22 after a particularly bad self-inflicted haircut

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I shaved my head once. I was about 15 and punque roque and trying to get back at my parents for something... can't actually remember what it was now. Strange that.

It did feel neat, though. Wasn't too keen on strange people coming up to me and rubbing my head at school, though. :-(

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I do it every so often when i get bored. I'm shaven at the moment; on Saturday Im decided to trim my hair as usual, shaving the back and sides and leaving the ridiculous quiff on top, but I slipped and took a chunk out of the quiff so had to do away with the lot. No bother. I've not shaved in a week either - got a football match tomorrow and I want to look 'ard in order to scare the opponents.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

ACK ACK!!! no, no one that strange. Just seniors I didn't know.

Psycho Kate (kate), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I shaved it off, then got a bic razor to make it Duncan Goodhew bald and shiny. Observations:

- People assumed I was a hardnut and would look at me in a kind of 'so you're a bit tasy then' and I felt intimidated. Other fellow shy persons also thought this and gave me looks of fear and apprehension.

- It felt very nice to rub my hands on it.

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never gone for the Goodhew look. I may one day, but only if I know I'm not going to be seen in public for a week or so.

Do clippers get blunt after a while? This morning's haircut was definitely less satisfying and exact than usual. I've run out of clipper oil, too.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to buzz my brother's head. Then he realized how much fun it was and did it himself. He's been shaving his head for about 10 years. Looks nice on him.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

i shave it myself every year come spring. which is like now. i think my gf has hidden my clippers cause she prefers the messy black mop.

kephm, Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I will never, ever, ever take a razor to my head. The idea of razorbumps all over my scalp does not appeal.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Couldn't you just use those electric clippers?

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

That's what I use. They do leave a tiny amount of hair behind, giving you a nice velvety head.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I shaved my head in 1996. I've been growing it out ever since.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the idea of Dan's velvety head.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

You would, pervertalist.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

That was implied.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 17:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I would never shave my head. Though, I did decide to finally go and get a haircut tomorrow.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I shaved mine down to a #4 guard a couple of nights ago. Woke up in the morning, noticed a few stray hairs, went back to trim them, didn't notice I'd taken the guard off until it was too late.

So now I'm bald. This is not a good look.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

never shaved my head. my guess is that it would look awful. I maintain that one day my hair might all fall out, so I might as well enjoy it while its there!

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I also cut all of my hair off after an unfortunate spat of miscommunication at the barber's. i thought it looked pretty good, and it was a nice change from my standard crappy haircut. but after it grew back most people were like 'oh thank god your hair is back.' so i dont think ill be going down that route again.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 20:10 (twenty-two years ago)

i've wanted to buzz my head forever but i think i might have a funny shaped head. i've got clippers and everything (for my beard). maybe one day in a drunken stupor

JaXoN (JasonD), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I am now singing Shave Your Head to the tune of Shake Your Head by Was Not Was.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I shaved the back of my head in high school, partly for wanting to look punk rock reasons, partly because I'd developed a bad habit of pulling my hair out and that was the only way to stop.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 20:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm due for it again soon. I love shaving my head.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 20:53 (twenty-two years ago)

i've wanted to buzz my head forever but i think i might have a funny shaped head.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 20:54 (twenty-two years ago)

In response to hangover delirium, I once shaved my head inbetween day one and two of another one of those wedding weekends where I was one of the only people there not Jewish

sexyDancer, Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:10 (twenty-two years ago)

My head is shaved once again. If you press on it after several day's growth, it feels almost squishy.

O.Leee.B. (Leee), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:33 (twenty-two years ago)

good for you.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I once shaved the head of this guy I was dating. I was really loath to do it at first, since I liked his hair and all, but he finally convinced me to do it. And it was, um, really surprisingly, uh, enjoyable to do!

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

adam, you think i have a funny shaped head? :(....

JaXoN (JasonD), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

No, That's just been one of my fears ever since I was young and another kid drew me in art class and gave me a really weird-shaped head.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:54 (twenty-two years ago)

i have a big peanut-shaped head with a knob in the back and weird seam-like marks on the top (yes that's right, i'm a zombie), so this is an intriguing yet ulitimately unfeasable option.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:58 (twenty-two years ago)

a knob?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:59 (twenty-two years ago)

so so so would you theoretically describe yourself as "a knobhead"?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:59 (twenty-two years ago)

matos otm, this is one of the greatest feelings on earth. i did it in college and always threaten to do it again, but family and friends consistently talk me out of it. plus i looked 'extreme' in whatever direction with no hair (the girl i was dating at the time: "ha ha you look like a white supremacist ha ha" me: "hrm no i don't like that")

g--ff (gcannon), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 22:01 (twenty-two years ago)

theoretically, yes.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 22:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks, I'll be back to conduct further tests.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 22:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I shaved my head when I was 18 or so. My mum made me wear a hat because she was embarassed by it till she realised more people looked at me when I had the hat on than when they could see my head was shaved. Ah look, I even have a photo of it:

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 22:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Pittsburg looks lovely at that time of year.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

ugh, i was just reminded of this kid i saw at a bar one time that had seriously the wrinkliest head i've EVER seen. like it was soooooo crazy. he looked like a sharpei. i couldn't stop staring. and he knew his head was like this or he wouldn't have shaven it. aaaraghgh. i'm freaked out just thinking about it.

(sorry if this was you oops)

JaXoN (JasonD), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Pittsburg? That's Pisa, innit?

O.Leee.B. (Leee), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

hahahahaha. that's the wrong link. but you should listen to it anyways. radio crank call gone wrong. hahahah

JaXoN (JasonD), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

four years pass...

I've only just started doing this and now wonder why on earth I never did it in the past - I mean shaving my head with a razor. Shaving your chin is horrible but shaving your head is nice, oddly pleasurable and it feels nice after it.

Tom D., Monday, 12 May 2008 10:49 (seventeen years ago)

I only ever used to crop mine with clippers, apart from one bic-incident. I've not done it for a while. I do need a haircut, though; I'd rather just go very short than totally off, however.

Scik Mouthy, Monday, 12 May 2008 10:59 (seventeen years ago)

did it last year to raise money for cancer. felt awesome. combined with footballer bulk, people were scared for a good few months.

Mikey Bidness, Monday, 12 May 2008 11:24 (seventeen years ago)

i do this ever summer and it looks a little something like THIS

rizzx, Monday, 12 May 2008 12:52 (seventeen years ago)

whoa and deleted it, image too big

rizzx, Monday, 12 May 2008 12:53 (seventeen years ago)

one month passes...

Just done this - it was the first time I've done it on myself, rather than coercing someone else to do it for me and it was a slow and quite anxious process (I was going from just above the shoulder length hair).

There were several moments of fear during the initial hacking off of the bulk of my hair and when the #8 all-over ended up looking really messy, but a switch to the #6 clippers greatly improved matters as far as I can tell.

krakow, Saturday, 14 June 2008 21:03 (seventeen years ago)

Always reminds me of the 'omg girl quit asking 'are these all your guitars' I am gonna show my 'mental breakdown' by going razor crazy' scene in THE WALL:

two years pass...

Elegant Bitch (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Sunday, 30 January 2011 17:25 (fifteen years ago)

one year passes...

Thinking about shaving on a regular basis now, where before I'd just buzz with clippers every 3 months. What's the learning curve? I don't even shave my face with a razor, so I have no idea how to do this.

Pilot Inspektor Leee (Leee), Thursday, 16 August 2012 01:14 (thirteen years ago)

it's pretty easy if you keep up with it. the first time will be difficult and time-consuming. just buzz it on the lowest setting, then start hacking away with a razor. it's best to start with a fresh razor; it will be completely useless by the time you're done.

after that, just shave it every time you shower. it takes like 30 seconds. for me it's difficult to shave anything thicker than a 4-day growth though. that takes you back to the beginning.

another thing about the first time shaving, the skin under your hair will probably be a few shades lighter than the skin on your face and neck. this may feel kinda goofy, but it evens out over time. just try to spend some time outdoors.

how's life, Thursday, 16 August 2012 11:26 (thirteen years ago)

Better to do it in front of a mirror?

Pilot Inspektor Leee (Leee), Friday, 17 August 2012 16:11 (thirteen years ago)

wanted to try this all my life and it was never the right time and now it'd just look awful (as opposed to in my 20s when it would have looked awful in a different way)

steven fucking tyler (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Friday, 17 August 2012 16:12 (thirteen years ago)

buzz down to lowest level every couple of weeks.

the very idea of taking a razor to my head scares the f*ck out of me.

and i'm not sure the total bald look would be good for me.

i like my grey fuzz.
