i just got a text message from a friend saying, "i like big butts and i cannot lie. hahaha." we haven't been talking about butts, big or otherwise, and i haven't exchanged texts with her since last night. i think it was meant for someone else, but it's lightened up my afternoon considerably.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sure this has happened others but I got a "goodnight baby" text from a friend before. I think I replied "sleep well lambchop".

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I got very drunk and high and took my friends phone and texted his uncle to say that he was gay (which he isn't). It was more an error of judgement than a run of the mill error.

(Sorry P, if you're reading)

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:28 (twenty-two years ago)

still, it was very funny at the time...

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:28 (twenty-two years ago)

does anyone else not a have a cellphone? am i the last one on earth to make this claim?

kephm, Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't have one. I used to, but it was a company phone.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)

that is an error in judgement! along those lines, an acquaintance told me that a coworker of his had his phone stolen at an office party. the thief sent numerous texts to the m.d. of the company, saying things like "i love you and i can't hide it any longer" and sending virtual kisses.

ONE FRIEND USED ANOTHER FRIEND'S PHONE AND SENT A MESSAGE TO A GIRL THE FRIEND KNEW THAT SAID "I DON'T WANT TO HAVE SEX WITH YOU IS THAT OK?"

i don't now, but i used to. i will get one again soon.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never received or sent a text message on my phone.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

My cell phone is a very old decrepit thing and is not set up for text messages -- that's probably a good thing.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I got one from a girl I know through work saying: "If that happens I can come and wake you up for midnight sex."

I replied saying that I was flattered but I didn't think she meant to send it to me. The reply said.

"Shit, x"

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

i thought this was going to be a thread on the book i ordered from the library being sent to anchorage, alaska

keph,m, Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:41 (twenty-two years ago)

if people still started rhyming threads there are about 5 superb ones for this thread.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Does nobody text in the US? Really? I never see anyone doing it.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:44 (twenty-two years ago)

i do it quite a bit, but i have tmobile which is really well set up for it. other services, like sprint, make it really difficult.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:46 (twenty-two years ago)

No cell phone here! I suppose I'll have to get one eventually, but it's never felt like an enormous hardship without one -- even though my friends sometimes think it's annoying.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I got a misdirected text asking me if I'd written the lyrics for the demo yet. I hadn't.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it costs more to text message in the USA with most companies. Or they only give you a limited amount of messages so people don't pick up the habit.

Haha so you're one of those people ;)

ONE FRIEND USED ANOTHER FRIEND'S PHONE AND SENT A MESSAGE TO A GIRL THE FRIEND KNEW THAT SAID "I DON'T WANT TO HAVE SEX WITH YOU IS THAT OK?"

-- RJG (r_gillander...), March 24th, 2004 9:34 PM.

I think it more like "I don't see you in a sexual way, is that OK?"

I sometimes have a problem of writing a text then sending it to the person it's about, rather than the person I am writing about. That can be quite an alarming problem.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 22:10 (twenty-two years ago)

What people?!

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh god N that's happened me too, it's the most embarassing thing ever, even if you're saying "ah John won't come out tomorrow I suspect" you feel like satan himself.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 22:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm glad you understood what I meant in my nonsensical post. Second 'about' should read 'to', as you surmised.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

i worry about doing that. i've come really close to doing it with instant messenger, when i've got multiple windows open.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 22:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I've done it with our intra-company instant messenger. I had to go over to the person's desk (she was standing up talking to someone else) and close the window, then smile disarmingly. It was very, very close.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 22:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I almost sent a message that said "can u get drugs 4 sun nite?" to my mum, the other week.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe she could have helped you out though.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I sent a message about Dave Clarke djing to my dad on new years eve the year before last, it said "he's playing that Dima remix!" or something, it was meant to go to Dave who is after Dad in my phone. My dad texted back "we're having a great time too, enjoy yourself". I felt bad then and texted back properly, I texted this nye too as a result.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

why did you need to tell dave what he was playing?

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 22:28 (twenty-two years ago)

haha!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 22:29 (twenty-two years ago)

"those bloody white labels. where's my marker?"

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 22:29 (twenty-two years ago)

"does anyone else not a have a cellphone? am i the last one on earth to make this claim?"
cell-phone free here
if i ever got one i would just keep it turned off all the time anyway, and then people that knew i had a cell phone would get pissed at me for never answering their calls. better off without one.

Verbal (Verbal), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 22:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave wasn't at the show! He's a good friend and it's a tune we both like. This is standard practice Cozen.

I was in London before, talking to Chris I think, and I got a capital lettered text (in irish) for some reason, Dave has crap Irish that said "TA AN DIOSCOLOIR ROLANDO AG SEINM OICHE NA JAGUAIRE"

He even managed to put Knights of the Jaguar into the genitive case, I was well impressed.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought 'dave' was 'dave clarke'. :(

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 22:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Nah I don't text famous (or maybe not so famous) techno DJs during shows sadly.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 22:38 (twenty-two years ago)

My image of you is totally blown.

John Bender (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

i kept reading that dave clarke and thinking dick clark and wondering when he started playing cool records out.

six years pass...

i was just texting my flatmate as we are close to agreeing on a new person moving in and i wanted to see if she's cool for me to confirm it all. my text i sent read "so lucrezia's friends don't want the room, can i say yes to kate then? i've been stalking her all week!" when i meant to say of course, that i'd been STALKING her all week.

jed_, Sunday, 25 July 2010 12:17 (fifteen years ago)

oɔsıqɐu (nabisco), Sunday, 25 July 2010 15:42 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah would be looking for another new flatmate then!

Donna and the pitfall of being pulchritudinous (donna rouge), Tuesday, 10 August 2010 17:04 (fifteen years ago)

many years ago I went on a date with a guy, and after I got home texted "it was fine but he's not very bright" to him instead of to my best friend like I intended. he immediately texted back to say something like "huh hope you're not talking about me" and I denied it, not very convincingly I though. but he never mentioned it again and we did go on a couple of subsequent dates. he really wasn't very bright.

cocotte, Tuesday, 10 August 2010 17:51 (fifteen years ago)
