Facts of Life.. how great was that.

I'm going to miss this show :(

jellybean (jellybean), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I am so sad, I can't believe it! :-(

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

These 2 blokes have pretty much shaped my musical tastes.. It's really quite scary. I started listening to them when I was 10 or 11, and discovering all this great music out there, through the graveyard shift. I hope Mark's new show will be a return to graveyard shift type thing.

jellybean (jellybean), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

x-post re: graveyard shift

hopefully mark r's radio 2 show will be as good as the old 10-12pm slot they used to do

Shady Nook (shady nook), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

*fingers crossed* Lard is going to 6 music, but I guess that's a digital channel.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm giving up on Radio 1 after today. It's going to be daytime 6 music, and late night Radio 2 for me.

jellybean (jellybean), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah a Lard solo show will be interesting to check out as well

Shady Nook (shady nook), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Argh i'm getting old, when Radio 1 is no longer relevant to my music taste. But then radio 1 is aimed at 12 year olds (see their weekend daytime lineup)

jellybean (jellybean), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks for reminding me. listening now. i miss the graveyard show and recorded the last show, but i've had to stop listening to them on 1, so yes fingers x'd for the less playlisted shows they are going to.

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

this show today's great. NO PLAYLIST! yay.

I can't believe they've got someone from Radiohead for mystery man!

jellybean (jellybean), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

and I can't believe that I'm not allowed to listen :o(

have they been playing old favourites?

chris (chris), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sure there'll MP3s of it on the net..

I've got quite a few of the shows from the last few weeks

jellybean (jellybean), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

the graveyard shift was formative for me too, i've still got loads of them on tape. i even liked their breakfast show. but the afternoon show has been a big letdown, i've never really enjoyed it. they've lost a lot of edge i think. don't know if 6music and radio2 are the places to rediscover it? oh well.

pete b. (pete b.), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

the graveyard shift was formative for me too, i've still got loads of them on tape. i even liked their breakfast show. but the afternoon show has been a big letdown, i've never enjoyed it nearly as much. they've lost a lot of edge i think. don't know if 6music and radio2 are the places to rediscover it? oh well.

pete b. (pete b.), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

yep! (apart from the travis live stuff.)

I am not going to listen to colin & edith at all. I cannot stand her.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

colin and edith are appalling!!!

pete b. (pete b.), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

there may be no playlist but they're still playing bloody starsailor

pete s, Friday, 26 March 2004 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

wot no tindersticks session?

pete b. (pete b.), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

but since it's 50 mins into the show, and it's the first non-excellent track.. it's a record for the afternoon show i think

jellybean (jellybean), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

*nods* It's going so quickly! :-(

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm just thinking how all the 'normal' radio 1 audience would be reacting right now, to all these great songs they've never heard before..

no hip hop and rn'b for ooh an hour, and for another hour at least :)

jellybean (jellybean), Friday, 26 March 2004 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

They're gonna run right into Sara Cox's show for sure.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

what great songs that the normal audience has never heard before are they playing?

pete b. (pete b.), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

old b&s, ten benson

jellybean (jellybean), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

haha stereophonics

pete s, Friday, 26 March 2004 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i may not like the playlist but an undiluted diet of m&l's picks would be tedious... like it is right now
on the palace of delights it could get v. dull, it was only leavened by old album tracks or summat

pete s, Friday, 26 March 2004 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd have mark and lard choose the playlist anytime. At least it means we don't have to listen to things like JLo and Usher

jellybean (jellybean), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I never thought I cared for 'Facts of Life' much, but when it came on as I was walking to work today it made me very happy.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it's one of those songs that's great if you don't hear it often. I don't think I liked it much when it was originally out, cos I heard it so many times, but now it's actually a great pop song

jellybean (jellybean), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

nice personal message from B&S and a great fat larry white

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

As I'm missing all this, is there anywhere I can get a playlist of the show?

Rob M (Rob M), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I think they said a few days ago, that the show's going to be online on the Radio1 site.

jellybean (jellybean), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

will they be playing tony mccarrol's classical gas or is that too oldskool? i heard the last graveyard slot, and the first brekky show.
it feels like so many years ago. f
irst record they ever played on the brekky was 'you love us' by msp!
an all-time great radio moment for me!

piscesboy, Friday, 26 March 2004 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

hehe.. the Coldplay pisstake of Candle in the Wind

jellybean (jellybean), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

heh heh!

:-(

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I hope they play their own version of French Disko, it's marvellous, and I still have it on tape somewhere

chris (chris), Friday, 26 March 2004 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

crazy nights! heh

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

it's been a great show

jellybean (jellybean), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

STOP!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 26 March 2004 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

...CARRYON!

sort of.. the show's online at the Radio 1 website, for anyone who missed it. I guess it'll just be up there for a week or so. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/

STOP!
