New Supply Order Policy ( 3.25.2004 )
In order to keep track of supply costs, the following policies are in
effect when taking/ordering supplies:

--Supplies will be ordered every Wednesday.

--To order specific supplies, you must fill out a Supply Order Form (located on the wall beside fax machine in the mailroom..in -------office. S******** will have the forms in the ------- office.) and turn in to N****.

Please indicate reorder/catalog #'s on all supplies on the order form. N**** and S******** have supply catalogs which will list catalog #s

--The Supply Closet in -------- will remain locked so, when needing supplies, please check with N**** first so that we can keep close track of supplies on hand.

--Whenever possible, please try to use current supplies (legal pads, pens, etc.) until you must obtain new ones.

Thanks for your cooperation in this effort.

You can tell who runs the office by who has the Staples catalogue. It used to be me, ah, how times have changed...

Psycho Kate (kate), Friday, 26 March 2004 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Neil Sedgewick?

Take stuff from work.
It's the best way to feel better about your job.
Never buy pens or pencils or paper.
Take 'em from work.
Rubber bands, paper clips, memo pads, folders--
Take 'em from work.
It's the best way to feel better about your low pay
and appalling working conditions.
Take an ashtray--they got plenty.
Take coat hangers.
Take a, take a trash can.
Why buy a file cabinet?
Why buy a phone?
Why buy a personal computer or word processor?
Take 'em from work.
I took a whole desk from the last place I worked.
They never noticed and it looks great in my apartment.
Take an electric pencil sharperner.
Take a case of white-out; you might need it one day.
It's your duty as an oppressed worker to steal from your exploiters.
It's gonna be an outstanding day.
Take stuff from work.
And goof off on company time.
I wrote this at work.
They're paying me to write about stuff I steal from them.
Life is good.

We've recently had water coolers installed (I know, groundbreaking). Apparently, last week's Health & Safety staff committee meeting was largely taken up with one man's complaint that they were too often empty - his suspicion being that some people were filling up bottles from them in order to take the water home. I don't think people are very used to being treated like adults here.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 26 March 2004 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Offices are like a fucking free for all. we have a dining room here for the attorneys and alot of times theres so much food left. the old policy was to notify the staff and have them come down and have some food. apparently, some of the staff would bring big ass tupperware containers from home and start filling them up. this was not a popular practice and led to much bitching and infighting amongst the secretaries. needless to say, they just throw all the food away now.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Friday, 26 March 2004 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

(aaah, thanks for reminding me guys, being my last day at work and all)

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 26 March 2004 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

we have a new office so we've just ordered our stationery etc. we have all been given a new red stapler (red is the corporate colour apparently).

a) do we really need a stapler each? what's the stapler per person ratio where you are? not 1:1 i bet.
b) has he not seen "Office Space"?

koogs (koogs), Friday, 26 March 2004 18:49 (twenty-two years ago)

six months pass...
Everyone always steals my stapler because I picked out one with a nice hand grip feature.

We just got a new load of office supplies in today. It's always a treat to be one of the first to discover it, because I score with such luxuries as the colored post-it pads and correction tape dispensers before coworkers grab them up. Take that, slow pokes!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I always order the supplies for our office! It is the luxury of a lifetime.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I hate supplies.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

My office supply situation is dire. The only pens available around here are red ink. I write everything in red ink!

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I hate supplies fun.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Remember in UHF when the bad guys hear noises coming from the closet that has a big sign on it that says "SUPPLIES" and then the karate guys jump out and yell "SULPLISE!"? Yeah, me too.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

"Badgers? Badgers? We don't need no stinkin' badgers!"

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

FUCK offices!

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Pasty-skinned office drones of the world unite! You have nothing to lose but your cubicles!

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Well this place is so cheap they order supplies about once every two months and its this whole godamn process for a fucking pen. So i never ask for anything. I steal it from fund accounting.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

although i did ask for and receive a back support thing.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

everyone here has a stapler on their desk but only about 1/3 of them actually staple w/o jamming. Boston Stapler ur the best, Swingline Stapler sucks the bag.

zaxxon25 (zaxxon25), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Why does no one have liquid white-out anymore? Only these bloody cheap rolly things?

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

By Kate's logic, I run our office. Ha! Although I must admit that I do play evil mind games with people I don't like by 'accidentally' forgetting to order whichever item of vitally important stationery they've been bugging me about, or telling them that it's too expensive and the boss won't authorise it. Frankly, if it's anything more exotic than a paperclip you can buy it yourself. I have better things to do than pore over catalogues for hours trying to find 'a handy thing that you saw somewhere once but can't really remember. In mauve.'.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a Bostitch stapler covered in spilt coffee. We use liquid white out.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

So do we. Only *I* have the good stapler and hole punch though.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

We use liquid, too.

Do you think my office would buy me a personal calendar/agenda thing? Is that wrong to ask for? It will help me do my job better.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Just use Outlook.

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I buy everyone in the department a diary every year. Well, I don't PERSONALLY buy them, I order them. It doesn't seem a crazy request. Or do you mean like an electronic one?

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

They probably wouldn't mind at all. Having an employee ask for a calendar is a lot less painful than one asking for a raise.

In a related topic, here's my newish task chair I requested (and received!):

(except mine is dark blue)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a key to the supply closet. I can be bought.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

We are currently not allowed to order Post It notes due to budget cuts. They're like gold dust here!

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I can be bought.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, I can order all the post its I want. Should I send you some? You can sell them on the interoffice black market and make millions!

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

We get free post-its from drug reps! If you seriously need some I can mail you a fucking boxful.

xpost

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I have so many pencils and so many pens, we keep getting sent promotional materials for this and that, perhaps I ought to let the punters have some.

Looking forward to the exhibition, I can get lots of freebies!

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

And nate, I can send you pens. Pens that aren't red.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

It's so sweet that this thread has turned into a stationery swap shop. Btw I can offer post-it notes and x-ray film bags.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 08:09 (twenty-one years ago)

If someone wants to buy 3000 white envelopes from my V1king Direct catalogue, I get a free tent! (Also from elsewhere I can get academic year diaries for 42p each.)

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 08:13 (twenty-one years ago)

We actually have our own custom-branded Post-Its here.

(I also found a box in the server room labelled "free gifts", and full of crappy little branded calculators, pens etc)

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 10:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a marble paper clip holder from American Express Financial Advisors. Thats what I get for assisting a client.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 11:01 (twenty-one years ago)

as we're a newish company people keep sending us promotional items on the off-chance that we'd like to order hundreds of similarly cheap pens to dish out to all our customers. unfortunately all of them get our name slightly wrong...

had to buy my own post-its in the end. i use the titchy ones as bookmarks and dividers. and for writing very small pieces of information on. still haven't used a single staple or the yellow highlighter.

koogs (koogs), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I love office supplies, i'm always looking for something new I can get!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 11:03 (twenty-one years ago)

If someone wants to buy 3000 white envelopes from my V1king Direct catalogue, I get a free tent! (Also from elsewhere I can get academic year diaries for 42p each.)

You serious? We need envelopes!

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 11:42 (twenty-one years ago)

nine years pass...

are there places better than staples that aren't hard to get to?

markers, Tuesday, 29 July 2014 20:24 (eleven years ago)

i don't have too much to get, but i want to make sure most/all of it is of decent quality

markers, Tuesday, 29 July 2014 20:25 (eleven years ago)

I laugh at your "promotional materials". My Dad worked in engineering all his life...those free pens drive me nuts. Plus they are usually related to something negative...insurance or doctors. With a senior citizen mother and grandma, I have lots of gear with medical stuff on it.

I miss Dad because THEIR "office supplies" are things like GERMAN pens and pencils and cool-ass drafting papers. I used to have friends over so we could play office - we'd make calls on an unplugged "phone", write in ledgers, make up fake orders with the McMaster catalog. Thanks to Dad, I can't stand any cheap pen that isn't paper mate. It's like driving a Kia Shitmobile when you've been riding in a Benz all your life. I also have an addiction to pencil lead.

Engineering firms don't have those stupid budgets that "paper pushers" have...everything is de luxe with German and Dutch labels.

X-Box Deutschland (I M Losted), Tuesday, 29 July 2014 21:29 (eleven years ago)

Oh, and Office Depot is pretty fun & they have great sales.

X-Box Deutschland (I M Losted), Tuesday, 29 July 2014 21:33 (eleven years ago)

Also art and craft stores have loads of shit, if paper and writing crap is what you want. Stamp pads are the shit.

X-Box Deutschland (I M Losted), Tuesday, 29 July 2014 21:37 (eleven years ago)
