High Brow Porn?

Tom of Finland as art = one-dimensional, repetitive, dud.

Therein lies the problem. "Reclaiming" porn as art tends to involve taking a piece of work which is good at what it is and turning it into something which is bad at what it now is. And for what? Mostly so art fans can pat themselves on the back.

There's a guy in LA named Wash Westmoreland who makes highbrow porn comedies. But I've never seen then. Fun fact: his brother Micko is Jack Fairy.

There are plenty of highbrow directors who put their sex fantasies right up front and centre. So to speak.

They invariably get slated for their trouble - there's nothing more toe-curling than a fantasy which doesn't work for you - but why shouldn't this be a legitimate area for creativity?

Sweet Movie struck me as high brow porn.
But it also had violence and stuff. I guess it was just a Euro-Art film.
It seriously turned me on but would then completely turn me off. I had to cover my eyes during a couple of parts.

I don't know how I feel about this statement-- "highbrow porn" doesn't mean a highbrow movie with sex scenes in it. If it's made to BE a porn, of course removing the pornographic scenes will make it into something entirely different.

Don't Look Back could so easily have owned this if Sutherland and Christie hadn't been so wussy.

'9 songs' isn't highbrow tho, it's just low-budget and shot by a name director. i generally think winterbottom is terrible and devoid of ideas but that one was particularly bad.
