as far as sheer obsessiveness is concerned, yeah. But it's not so bad, because music is part of the real world, its something everyone likes, which makes music geeks much more sociable and considerably "normal," when compared to Tolkien and Star Wars geeks who seek a total escape from reality.

ts: jackson impaled on a splintered stake vs lucas being forced to watch star wars redux 25 hour edition.
― darraghmac, Thursday, 18 October 2007 13:55 (eighteen years ago)
where is the "kurosawa directing lucas and jackson in a scene where they both have to dodge traffic on the new jersey turnpike" option
― El Tomboto, Thursday, 18 October 2007 13:56 (eighteen years ago)
too elitist. mine was for the harry potter fans.
― darraghmac, Thursday, 18 October 2007 13:57 (eighteen years ago)
you can get on the turnpike for free dude, it's getting off that costs money. how is that elitist?
― El Tomboto, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:00 (eighteen years ago)
man no-one wants to hear about some japanese director.... has he done a potter movie yet?
― darraghmac, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:11 (eighteen years ago)
The Turnpike is about the same as a New Jersey hooker - you gotta pay to get off.
Little Rutgers humor there.
― B.L.A.M., Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:13 (eighteen years ago)
how does ilx feel about dorks that play CCGs in their 20s?
― bell_labs, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:14 (eighteen years ago)
But seriously - for most of its length, the Turnpike is two lanes in either direction, with a median wall.
TOO EASY, even for fat, rich fucks like Jackson and Lucas (who, in all fairness, have both made GOOD movies).
I vote that we let Kurosawa direct them to dodge traffic at approx. 8:30 on a Friday evening on the 10 as it moves through its 110-101-5 interchange in downtown LA.
It would be the fastest and most gratifying game of Frogger ever.
― B.L.A.M., Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:16 (eighteen years ago)
Ms Labs I think ILX is really much more interested in people who play miniature wargames set in the far future
― El Tomboto, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:20 (eighteen years ago)
well on into their thirties when they have children of their own
is there a truck out there that can take on a lucas ego, even at full speed.
anyway, no fair. jackson would just jump of the back of a passing elephant and escape.
― darraghmac, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:20 (eighteen years ago)
I did make the argument recently, based on an informal personal assessment of Klosterman readers, LA gossip blog RSS feed subscribers, scandinavian metal aficionados, mixed-martial-arts pay-per-view customers and people who read books about professional sports, that all nerds are basically equivalent and all people are basically nerds. It's the world of tomorrow. If you're not some kind of geek then you're the weirdo.
― El Tomboto, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:30 (eighteen years ago)
I guess that is true, and your sample assessment group is impressive in its contents - but doesn't the concept of being a "geek" imply some very focused attention to a particular set or group of things?
If so, I know some people who are most assuredly NOT geeks, but rather drift through life just kind of being...meh about it. Are these the weirdos?
― B.L.A.M., Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:42 (eighteen years ago)
not even the 'meh' people, but people who have a wide range of varied interests without being obsessive about any of them. they exist too, and aren't weirdos.
but they aren't on the internet.
― darraghmac, Thursday, 18 October 2007 14:45 (eighteen years ago)
I sincerely doubt there are people who spend their whole lives being meh about everything. More likely you've just never been around when the conversation turns to automotives or civil war history or olympic skating
― El Tomboto, Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:05 (eighteen years ago)
if someone was 'meh' about everything, might they have some form of illness that left them unable to relate/emote normally?
― darraghmac, Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:09 (eighteen years ago)
Or they could just be stoned and from Southern California.
There are A LOT of meh people out here who's main occupation is being "meh" about EVERYTHING - they are SO over it ALL.
Which might be a form of geekiness all unto itself.
― B.L.A.M., Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:26 (eighteen years ago)

― darraghmac, Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:32 (eighteen years ago)
Tom's right, you watch ANYONE long enough, you'll see 'em start creaming over SOME geeky thing.
