Just for Laughs comedy festival to host World Stupidity Awards
MONTREAL (CP) — The Just for Laughs comedy festival will play host to the second annual World Stupidity Awards this summer.
The festival runs from July 15 to 25.
The awards were launched last year and named former Iraqi information minister Saeed al-Sahaf the world’s stupidest person and gave U.S. President George W. Bush the stupidity award for reckless endangerment of the planet.
When the 2004 awards are announced on July 23, there will be 11 categories, including stupidest man, woman, country, trend, media outlet, movie, TV show and statement.
Nominees will be announced later this spring and the winners will be invited to attend to accept the Golden Dunce Cap.
“We’re stupified,” says Albert Nerenberg of MORON, the Main Organization Revealing Obvious Numbskulls, which holds the awards. “You can’t get any better than this. Stupidity is finally getting the recognition it deserves.”
Organizers say they look forward to the day when the awards will no longer be necessary.
