A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, a Rebellion has formed against an evil Galactic Empire. The Rebellion has won its first victory against the oppressors, but the Empire has constructed a superweapon, the planetkilling Death Star. These events break in on the life of young Luke Skywalker, a farm boy on the desert world of Tatooine. As he is drawn into the swirl of events, he decides to join the Rebellion and become a Jedi knight, like his mysterious, absent father. But before his training is complete, Luke and his Rebel friends must confront the power of the Death Star.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 29 March 2004 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

this series has jumped the shark

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Monday, 29 March 2004 17:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Luke's name was "Starkiller" until the first day of filming.

Kingfish Hypercolor (Kingfish), Monday, 29 March 2004 17:36 (twenty-one years ago)

"So what's your name?"

"Anakin Starkiller."

"Oh that doesn't give away anything."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 29 March 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Han's name was "Jawb" until the second day of filming.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Monday, 29 March 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Johnny Wadd

Chris 'The Velvet Bingo' V (Chris V), Monday, 29 March 2004 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought of it 'cause I saw my friend's play over the weekend (called 'The Double Double Feature: The first act was 'Jesus Christ Superstar Wars' and the second was 'The King and I Know What You Did Last Summer') and the friend that went with me admitted that she'd never seen Star Wars.

WTF?

luna (luna.c), Monday, 29 March 2004 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Lucas originally wanted Toshiro Mifune to play Obi Wan Kenobi.

Also, there's a reason why several SW characters have Japanese names...

Kingfish Hypercolor (Kingfish), Monday, 29 March 2004 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

My youngest brother had never seen the first Star Wars movie until the big rerelease of 97.
I was shocked and awed and disowned him.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Monday, 29 March 2004 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Never having seen Star Wars is like never having had a blowjob. Beyond a certain age, you figure it's got nothing to do with chance and everything to do with saying no, and that's weird.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 29 March 2004 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

So, uh, what are you telling us here, Tep?

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Monday, 29 March 2004 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder who was the first parent to concieve of putting Star Wars figures on birthday cakes...

xpost once again Tep proves his value to our community.

Kingfish Hypercolor (Kingfish), Monday, 29 March 2004 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

a friend of mine who was raised in the phillipines has never seen it and has no desire to.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Monday, 29 March 2004 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

But has your friend ever given Tep a blow job?

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Monday, 29 March 2004 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe Tep should give the friend the blow job.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 29 March 2004 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Being raised in another country is one thing, but for her to have been a kid in the 70s and to have actively avoided it... well, it's that blowjob thing that Tep said.

(PS: I've never had a blowjob.)

luna (luna.c), Monday, 29 March 2004 17:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I forgot I'm the blowjob guy.

And yeah, okay, I could've/should've said "a guy never having had a blowjob," or picked something more gender-neutral -- but "receiving oral sex" always sounds funny, like you got it in the mail with a bunch of coupons.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 29 March 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I call mail-run!

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Monday, 29 March 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

(And what did I get in the mail today? Disc 3 of Season 3 of Babylon 5.)

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 29 March 2004 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

(I got a Sarah Harmer concert vid)

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Monday, 29 March 2004 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I was raised on Star Wars. They're some of the earliest movies I remember watching.

At the Disney-MGM Studios theme park in Orlando, FL they had (at least when I was there) the holographic chess table prop from the original Star Wars. Seeing that, plus the space suits from Alien and one of the cars from Blade Runner, was like a religious experience for a dork like me.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 29 March 2004 18:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe it's just my crazy unemployed lifestyle, but I seem to get a lot more socializing done during the week than I do during the weekend, when everyone is off doing their weekendy things, etc.

Ah well. The other night I went to a show and someone covered one of my songs. That's always cool.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 29 March 2004 18:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, guys.

Pink, I'd never heard of J size! I'm impressed! :)

I saw Star Wars for the first time at a drive-in! I was really little.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 29 March 2004 18:24 (twenty-one years ago)

My earliest memory is seeing Star Wars in the theater -- my first movie, in a theater or otherwise, I was 2 -- I don't remember much except saying something near-nonsensical afterwards about a picturebook (because the movie opens with text and then goes on to pictures, just like Curious George books had both). My next memory is of getting stung by a bee after I sat on it that same summer, and of playing in the goldfish pond right before my parents plowed it under to build a tennis court, so Star Wars wins.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 29 March 2004 18:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i had that picture & record book, and saw it at the drive in.

Kingfish Hypercolor (Kingfish), Monday, 29 March 2004 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

You were right Kingfish!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 29 March 2004 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw Empire at the Drive-In.
I was born just after Star Wars came out, but that was my first experience with a VCR.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Monday, 29 March 2004 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

oh and my first record was the double album Empire sndtrck (followed, mysteriously, by Huey Lewis & the News' Sports--a few years later).

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Monday, 29 March 2004 18:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Yoda was supposed to be played by Buddy Ebsen, but he was allergic to the silver makeup.

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 29 March 2004 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

That reminds me of Arrested Development last night.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Monday, 29 March 2004 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I ate the King Size Bounty and I drank the litre of chocolate milk. I then passed out. Now I'm tempted to go to the kitchen and fry up the pound of bacon I have and eat all of that. I don't think I will, though.

Bryan B Sure (Bryan), Monday, 29 March 2004 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't had bacon in a long time. I should've gone for a brunch yesterday, but I had a stupid meeting. I want some bacon.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Monday, 29 March 2004 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

My earliest memory is seeing "Return of the Jedi" in the dollar theater where there is now a high school for troubled kids. I remember they had dark blue carpeting and on the wall hung a neon animated Pac-Man sign of Pac chasing down an eating a ghost, in a loop. I was so small and the sign was so high off the ground, it was magical.

I didnt see the Star Wars movies for about ten years after that, when i rediscovered them in the early 90s. When i got back into them, i remembered jamming together the whole series into my head as one big movie, mostly the opening shot of Jedi, the Hoth scene, the speeder bikes on Endor, and I remembered watching a televised "Empire", the part with Yoda, while eating Lentil soup my mom had made in the kitchen when i was something like 7 or 8. It was a big deal cos we never had the TV on when we ate, but i suppose i was really crazy about the movies back then.

Before the new ones came out I read a rough draft of the original film(or an internet fake, whatever) and really liked it, and of course i was let down by all the new ones.

I think the main reason i liked Star Wars in the first place was the insane juxtaposition of cultures and time periods that were jammed together. It was like a mix of King Arthur and Flash Gordon, with bits of Samurai and Zen mysticism thrown in.

I remember my favorite shot from the whole series is when Luke looks up at the two suns and John William's score gets all dramatic. The way all of those dirty robots and computers lit up in the desert at twighlight, it's had a profound impact on me.

Adam Bruneau, Monday, 29 March 2004 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I just got the results of my CT scan and they were very shocking to me: completely normal. No brain surgery for me. RATS!

Bryan B Sure (Bryan), Monday, 29 March 2004 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

every star wars vehicle game is required by law to have a Hoth sequence...

Kingfish Hypercolor (Kingfish), Monday, 29 March 2004 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Will they still shave yr privates?

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Monday, 29 March 2004 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

X-post of god right there.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 29 March 2004 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

they prefer the terms "buzz your wampa" or "a shorn taun taun"

Kingfish Hypercolor (Kingfish), Monday, 29 March 2004 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

the kessel run

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Monday, 29 March 2004 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

ugnaught

Kingfish Hypercolor (Kingfish), Monday, 29 March 2004 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I remember seeing Star Wars when it came out at the drive-in.

Yeah, I was a fast 5 year old.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 29 March 2004 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

you guys realize what ggl bait this thread is, right?
that's howt.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Monday, 29 March 2004 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Abandon ship, abandon ship!

luna (luna.c), Monday, 29 March 2004 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Ok, now which one had Hans being statue-ified and The HUTT laid around eating people? That's the one I saw at the drive in.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 29 March 2004 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Jedi had the Hutt, and Han being DE-statue-ified.

Kingfish Hypercolor (Kingfish), Monday, 29 March 2004 20:31 (twenty-one years ago)

okay can I lock this star wars madness now and start a new one?

luna (luna.c), Monday, 29 March 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

lock and load, goodbuddy. (i've always wanted to say that)

oops (Oops), Monday, 29 March 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

this is the bad guy in Ep III.

Kingfish Hypercolor (Kingfish), Monday, 29 March 2004 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

NO MORE FUCKING STARWARS

luna (luna.c), Monday, 29 March 2004 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

But Luna, you started the thread that way and we are all mere sheep.

Anyway, it's a lovely day! Hurrah! Hot, though, so I'm staying inside where it is nicely cool, mm.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 29 March 2004 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Doctor update, since I mentioned it here:

All right, so I went to the doctor. We're upping the dosage of the beta blocker, and in addition to the Imitrex I have Vicodin if I need to kill the pain and can't take the side effects of Imitrex (which I should get used to over time).

No X-rays or blood tests necessary right now, which was the prime concern. Although Id idn't feel the beta blockers were doing enough, he said that they a) have decreased the frequency of the headaches, and b) have especially decreased the non-pain symptoms, which is an indication that they work, they just don't work well enough yet.

So this is good.

$300 on prescriptions today, not so good, but that's how things go.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 19 April 2004 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

damn tep. well i'm glad you're finding out more but i'm sorry it's so expensive.

at that price, maybe you should look into independant insurance? I know the companies I looked into would have a cheaper per month cost for me than what I get through the district but their mental health offerings are next to nil. It might be a better deal for your situation though.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Monday, 19 April 2004 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I was thinking about checking out prescription plans, has anyone used those? Like ... an insurance thingie that just copays prescriptions? I have no idea how they work or if they're worth it, but my gosh, this really is silly.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 19 April 2004 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

we had the fire alarm go off today, so everybody got to clear the building.

it was like recess!

Kingfish Disraeli (Kingfish), Monday, 19 April 2004 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, we had someone jump out of the building where my department office is, while my girlfriend was coming out of class. Eighth floor, presumed suicide attempt, they survived.

That isn't a fire alarm, though, I don't know why I said "oh yeah."

(I am currently on the Vicodin.)

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 19 April 2004 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

fire drills suck ass. they always happen during sixth period, my hell class.

yeah tep you should check into it. although I wonder what kind of stipulations there are for pre-existing conditions.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Monday, 19 April 2004 21:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, it doesn't seem like that could work except for emergency purposes ... cause how would they make money, unless the premium is super-high? But I'll look around, it can't hurt.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 19 April 2004 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish Vicodin worked for me.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 19 April 2004 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Huck, so I guess I won't be sending you our new CD to review (once it's recorded and all)...

We played a show the other day where we played all the songs off the new album, which we're going to record in the next few weeks. It was mostly to get some of our friends excited about it. The songs went over well but I'm feeling all unsure about it.

In semi-other news: I'm hoping to do a midwest tour this summer. Anyway want to help me (us?) with a place to crash and all that fun stuff?

...in bed. (Chris Piuma), Monday, 19 April 2004 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Vicodin for me is ... well, it's something I've been addicted to before, so it won't be a permanent part of the course of treatment ... but it's something I was on so regularly after surgery that I can function pretty well on it. Moreso than Imitrex: Vicodin's side effects are ... homogenous.

It's an imperfect painkiller, but it should work for days when I cannot afford significant pain or Imitrexity.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 19 April 2004 21:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, and Chris -- where in the Midwest? I would have to check with the girlfriend, but depending on when, letting you (how many?) crash on the futon would probably be fine.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 19 April 2004 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Um, you know. The midwest part. Where are you again? Indiana? Places where we know people get priority, of course. (And we accept floor as well as futon. You can ask Bryan or Huck about my unsuitability as a touring houseguest.)

(Cities in strong contention: Chicago, Cincinnati, Omaha, St Louis. Would be nice to revisit: Winnipeg, Regina. Don't know anyone in: Minneapolis. Am probably forgetting: Ann Arbor. Likely month: August. Also might hit: Humboldt, Iowa, or Humboldt, Sask, for polkafests.)

...in bed. (Chris Piuma), Monday, 19 April 2004 21:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, sorry, meant to remind you where I live :) Indiana -- Bloomington, about an hour or so from Indianapolis. 4 hours from Cincinnati, about 5 from St Louis. It's pretty dead in the summer -- summer classes are not a big thing here, so most of the students are gone. This is a good thing as far as I'm concerned (= there is parking to be had), but you know.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 19 April 2004 22:02 (twenty-one years ago)

for a show in Ann Arbor, head here: http://www.ypsirocks.com/elbowroom.html

i do sound there, and can probably hook you up.

Kingfish Disraeli (Kingfish), Monday, 19 April 2004 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

That's what I like to hear!

...in bed. (Chris Piuma), Monday, 19 April 2004 22:22 (twenty-one years ago)

no down south this time Chris?

You still need a driver?

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 00:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm thinking down south in the, like, winter. And it's true that I still can't drive, so it depends on who's going with me. (Though keep in mind that a tM3 tour is not exactly a moneymaking proposition just yet...)

...in bed. (Chris Piuma), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 01:22 (twenty-one years ago)

none of propositions involve money. it is my fate in life.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 01:33 (twenty-one years ago)

You are on point.

...in bed. (Chris Piuma), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 04:46 (twenty-one years ago)

the perfect dog for Sam!

Kingfish Disraeli (Kingfish), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 04:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Chris, if you come back I can show you all the buildings that have and will be torn down since December. Regina be imploding!

Sarah, I'm glad you liked it. I've actually been getting a lot of positive feedback on my writing lately, and, aside from the stupid hurldes I create for myself, I think I'm really getting comfortable in my critic voice. You've never hard of sucking wind??? Though actually, I didn't know its origins either, so who am I to be all fussybritches.

Huck, Tuesday, 20 April 2004 05:12 (twenty-one years ago)

perfect paying proposition for sam in tha email.....
woo-hoo!

Orbit (Orbit), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 05:51 (twenty-one years ago)

last night i found the new Matt Pond PA album "Emblem" on Slsk. I got erection.

Chris 'The Velvet Bingo' V (Chris V), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 10:05 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, I'm tired of that user name.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 10:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Also I'm up at 4am. And I'm hungry. Hungry.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 10:09 (twenty-one years ago)

then do some munchin godamnit!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 10:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe I will!

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 11:10 (twenty-one years ago)

heh heh, why are you up so early?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 11:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Look again! You'll see that it is I who is up late!

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 11:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Well either way, up late or up early, what on earth are you doing up at 4am, or shouldn't I ask?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 11:21 (twenty-one years ago)

And the answer is: Because I was programming. I sometimes forget what a zen thing that is -- you look up and it's 7 hours later and you think, didn't I need to pee a few hours ago?

Also it's going on 5:30 now.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, well time to go for breakfast methinks!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 11:24 (twenty-one years ago)

that reminds me...

Huckelborace (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

That's better.
So I woke up this morning and decided, might as well quit smoking agin. And now, I'm ready for a cigarette. Fuck.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I just saw the cover art for my (mini) book! It looks good, if a bit Bloombury-esque. Also there is an ISBN number now which means it is really real! < /childish excitement>

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I played baseball this weekend much to the chagrin of the doctors orders to give it up and I've been paying for it dearly for three days. My hip is in bad shape. I can barely walk or stand up for a long time without some really bad pain. I can gut it out though i think. If not, im going to have to go under the knife. Ugh. A hip replacement at 29? Sweet.

Chris 'The Velvet Bingo' V (Chris V), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

it's a DOG on a SKATEBOARD, people! come on! it even steers!

Kingfish Disraeli (Kingfish), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Yay Archel!!
Don't give in Huck, if I can quit smoking anyone can!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, I can't even get out to buy smokes for another 75 minutes, so, like, maybe I'll be feeling better by then. I should just stuff my face with food.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Totally do it! Stuff, stuff, stuff!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

and cigarettes are so expensive now, and food is so cheap

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Chris P, I am speaking for NA here but I'm pretty sure you guys could crash on our floor. We have a small apartment in Wicker Park (Chicago). How many bandmates would be coming with you? You should play at the Empty B0ttle. I don't have any hookups at any venues (yet!), but I just happen to like that one. Where do you normally play?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

oribt's a life planner. i think she might actually be working on a reality show. ;)

(just woke up. sleepy. yeah bad girl.)

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel like Jason Bateman in Teen Wolf Too.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel like Pumpkinhead.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel like Styles in Teen Wolf 1.

Chris 'The Velvet Bingo' V (Chris V), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel like chicken tonight, CHICKEN TONIGHT!!!

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel like starting another thread.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

can you do that before this one hits 1000?

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 17:07 (twenty-one years ago)

And so I have. This is the Thread Where I Say Pt. 12: Tits and Tequila
