Meltdown Man: Nick Stone of the SAS is on some kind of covert mission in Afghanistan when the Sovs drop an atomic bomb on him. instead of turning into vapour he is blown into a strange new world where humans rule over "yujees" - eugenically enhanced bioforms, basically animals with human characteristics. Stone then leads the yujees in a revolt against the evil humans and their Predator underlings. It was basically a sci-fi South Africa but BRILLIANT nonetheless and largely an excuse for Bellardinelli to do loads of weird art.

Return To Armageddon, meanwhile began with this spaceship wandering out of normal space and time and finding what appeared to be literally Hell frozen over - loads of charred corpses encased in ice accompanied by the frozen corpse of what looks like The Devil Himself. Some of the Devil-thing's cells are still alive, so the crew of the spaceship foolishly decide to clone him - with predictably disastrous consequences. A great story with great art by under-appreciated 2000AD artist Jesus Redondo.

Meltdown Man was completely interminable - I think only Mean Arena went on for longer. It wasn't bad but it wasn't brilliant mostly because I dont like Belardinelli's art much. Didn't it have a really downbeat ending?
Return To Armageddon though was one of the maddest stories ever printed in 2000AD. It moved from this Alien-style scenario to terrible deeds as the devil is let loose on Earth. I think it was completely made up as it went along, too. I can't remember how it ended at all, must re-read yes. It had a great homoerotic subtext with the grizzled space pirate captain and his gorgeous blond first mate.

Bellardinelli is I think the only 2000AD artist who ever drew Judge Dredd's face - although Tharg put a "censored" over it.
