What medium are you working in? How far are you into your project? How do you feel about it? What are you hoping to achieve?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 29 March 2004 20:48 (twenty-two years ago)

music

1/2way thru next album

it's the only thing in the world that I want to listen to. Apart from Judas Priest.

I am hoping to achieve sonic catharsis.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 29 March 2004 20:50 (twenty-two years ago)

trying to get my own domain to host my photography, currently

Kingfish Hypercolor (Kingfish), Monday, 29 March 2004 20:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Large-scale, I'm working on a short story collection that's about 120-or-so pages, most of which I'm happy about, depending on the day. I just need more. I've been working on some new pieces, though not nearly as much as I should. I want to start a novel.

Prude (Prude), Monday, 29 March 2004 20:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Having finished a revision of one of my manuscripts last month, I am waiting on some feedback before I tackle my next approach.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 29 March 2004 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

*loud burst of feedback*

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 29 March 2004 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Was that cathartic?

Prude (Prude), Monday, 29 March 2004 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I've narrowed my 'visual art' down to photocopy transfer collages as I find it's the only 'medium' I excel at. Working on some cover art today, actually. I really do enjoy it.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Monday, 29 March 2004 22:08 (twenty-two years ago)

WOO HOO SOLVENT

dean! (deangulberry), Monday, 29 March 2004 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm am fairly invovled in these visual arts:
drawing / comics
painting (mostly just acrylic)
photography (I just got a digital camera, but I like nondigital much better, but digital is easier for now, and I don't have any darkroom)
comupter art (animation, messing around with photoshop)
Japanese calligraphy

mostly stuff that doesn't take up too much space and is fairly cheap for me to do.

I want to see anyone's websites with photography on it!
here's some of mine: http://www.geocities.com/moretap/

A Nairn (moretap), Monday, 29 March 2004 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

still making second album. four songs are at the mixing stage, 13 more need some vocals. it's wall-to-wall hits.

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 29 March 2004 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Currently doing a weekdaily comic on my LiveJournal. Still finding my feet and experimenting with stuff.

Chriddof (Chriddof), Monday, 29 March 2004 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

making big gigantic movie, getting migraines

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 29 March 2004 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude slutsky I'll give you some of my pills.

Does writing count? I'm about 40% of theway into my novel about the Wandering Jew and Koshchei the Deathless, and occasionally tinkering with the revision of an earlier novel about a Bowie cover singer.

Painting-wise, I amassed a bunch of reference photos to use for some paintings and have been delaying starting since the photos get mostly wrecked in the course of the painting and I spent like $50 on them. But theywalys come out wicked good when I paint this way .... even so, I'm down to my last piece of canvas and have been procrasting buying more.

Have possibly ditched my photocomic about Nicky Hilton since it was started before The Simple Life and the Paris Fucktape, and the idea seemed more interesting then.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 29 March 2004 23:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yeah, and the "hope to achieve":

I want the new novel to be as good as the last one I wrote, without having vampires in it, so publishers will stop telling me "we like this but we can't publish vampires."

I want the old novel to be longer, so it hits the minimum-length mark, without being padded.

I want the paintings to be interesting enough to look at.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 29 March 2004 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

unfocused as usual- writing a book (slowly)
putting a website together before the scanner died (hopefully not a taste issue)- http://geocities.com/summerbabe828
translating a biography of David Goodis from French

if I finish even one of these things I'll be real happy

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 01:46 (twenty-two years ago)

one of my friends translated a few goodis novels INTO french, donna!

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 01:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Taking pictures, but I have no darkroom access, and I just can't get excited without that (and can't afford to have the lab do much). I'm going to talk to the head of the dept. and see if I can use the darkroom over the summer, even though I didn't take a photo class this semester.

I'm trying to figure out how much it would cost me to just drive around W. Texas and NM/AZ for a couple of weeks this summer ("in order to find myself"), maybe sleep in the back of my truck and go the truck-stop shower route to save money most nights.

I did register celluloidpropaganda.com (for all three people in the world who'll understand the reference) to eventually put some stuff online.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 01:54 (twenty-two years ago)

x post are you SERIOUS? which ones?

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 01:55 (twenty-two years ago)

making a joyful noise that no one will hear..

except for a few people i like to annoy it with

hector (hector), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 01:56 (twenty-two years ago)

donna--yes! i don't remember which ones, though (or which one), i'll ask her though!

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 02:00 (twenty-two years ago)

that's weird and awesome

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 02:04 (twenty-two years ago)

highfives!

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 02:05 (twenty-two years ago)

:)

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 02:07 (twenty-two years ago)

can we get more links to some people's stuff online?

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 02:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I did a painting full of turquoise amoeba-like blobs and SERIOUSLY had to restrain myself from ruining it by painting googly eyes on all of them. They now have single and properly ominous red nuclei going on - but in my heart they're googly.

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 02:25 (twenty-two years ago)

take a picture and make them googly with photoshop!

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 02:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Photographs of paintings from about a year to a year and a half ago. More recent stuff either isn't bright enough to be photographed well or has been made when I didn't have access to a reasonable camera.

(nb I am not a painter, really.)

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 02:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I just may.

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 02:30 (twenty-two years ago)

heres a little image of a painting i'm working on. Obviously unfinished at the moment. It's acrylics and about 30 x 50 inches.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 02:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I really dig the contrast of the wings and the green there (I'm assuming it's green, I'm a little colorblind, but I can usually do greens).

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 02:32 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah the pic is actually a bit washed out. it's a kind of hospital green in reality.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 02:34 (twenty-two years ago)

That's what it looks like to me! I like that a lot.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 02:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Ipsofacto is talented! Much more so than I in that realm, I can but scribble. Very cool. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 02:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh i'm just average. At high school I admit I was probably up with the best in my class but at art school (where I am now) I'm all too aware of my failings as an artist :)

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 02:41 (twenty-two years ago)

"swack" and "whomp"

those are great titles for abstract paintings!

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 02:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a feeling that in art, like most things, being aware of your failings nearly always places you above average.

"swack" and "whomp"

those are great titles for abstract paintings!

Thanks :) My paintings are basically all just the result of me saying "it would be fun to do a painting such and such a way," so when I look at them, I remember the process. The product is just sort of ... the evidence.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 02:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Here's a hypertext story I was working on in the fall. I'm not if it's worth the trouble of going back to revise it.

Prude (Prude), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 02:49 (twenty-two years ago)

And an alyson hanngan portrait! After all that whose attractive quiz, I want to do one of these too.

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 02:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I am planning on getting a decent photo printer (inkjet) so I can dedicate some time to proper photoggraphy again. I too have no darkroom currently (well, I own B&W darkroom equipt but it is all in cabnberra and I live in a flat anyway), so the digital needs to be hauled out.

Damn thing's tempermental but I occasionally get good shots.

I also draw a comic called Snail.

http://people.connect.net.au/~trace/snail.html

I cant draw for shit, but people keep asking me to do more snail strips, this ones a few years old now, I havent scanned any others. Im not sure they're much good.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 02:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I goof around with photography & oil painting these days. I have only a handful of paintings that I've done which actually like, they're hanging in my bathroom and bedroom. Boston was a great city to be a photographer in- I would go on a walk & find all sorts of things to shoot, and NYC was so close. I hate shooting in Seattle- for whatever reason, the streets just aren't anywhere near as interesting. ( Other than a few abstract shots of the EMP.) So now I mostly take pictures of my neice when I see her. Links to ones from 2 weekends ago: (warning, ~ 100 KB each)

http://wendyk.org/learningtowalk.jpg
http://wendyk.org/tinykate.jpg
http://wendyk.org/chewing.jpg

I did fartsy Jerry Ulesman stuff in college (http://www.wendyk.org/swirl2_tiny.jpg) & didn't shoot many people, bit of a change now.

lyra (lyra), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 03:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Gettin' high.

Fr4ncis W4tlington (Francis Watlington), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 03:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Not a alot, been meaning to make some more Pokemon/Manga abstracts. I think I will over Easter.

I have a bunch of completed pictures to upload, so that my piclinks will be up-to-date: http://www.angelfire.com/wy/bby2k/piclinks.html

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

animation is going nowhere, i keep getting started and then immediately convincing myself that i should be moving in entirely the opposite direction. i don't know what i'm hoping to achieve. and i'm supposedly working on serious of comic strips for local coffeehouse chain, but i have only completed debut strip so far.

fuck art. (actually, i've really been enjoying the art of others lately - fuck my art.)

m., Tuesday, 30 March 2004 16:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Right now, nuthin".

WHY, you ask?
Because I POURED BEER INTO MY POWERBOOK.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

oh snap, is that as bad as it sounds?

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Ask me in a few days!

Coming up with a more concrete plan for a large, temporary installation-based piece--I know what the basic idea is, and I know some of the effects I want it to have, but there are some very important specifics for which I'm flailing.

Douglas (Douglas), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 22:42 (twenty-two years ago)

My brother found a bunch of illustrations that I did a million years ago for various fanzines and stuff, and is actually trying to pimp them out to galleries. Some of them are on display here:

http://www.morningside-heights.net/ksc/1.htm

I can't choose between them, they all look equally shite to me, (in fact some of them look downright mishapen to me) but if anyone has any favourites, let me know which ones. Coz I don't have a clue.

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 2 April 2004 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

the stuff I'm recording would be far further along if the engineer hadn't ACCIDENTALLY RECORDED OVER the stuff we recorded last week. Thankfully we probaby would have had to re-record it anyway, but, still. Tracking drums sucks, listening to drums with no instruments sucks, playing to a click track sucks, people not making sessions sucks, the second take and all subsequent takes usually suck, getting home at 1 AM and getting up at 7:00 to go to work the next day sucks.

I'm still cautiously optimistic.
