What the fuck did you have?

I made myself french toast with eggs and some bacon on the side, and some vitamin enhanced Trader Joe's drink that is supposed to make me healthier. Tonight I'll have several cigarettes and cancel it out.

4 cups of coffee in a big huge mug.
1 glass of OJ

I love breakfast more than sex, but I don't do it justice on weekdays. I had my usual stale bagel & overpriced coffee at work.

― Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

actually that banana-soy monster sounds pretty good

― Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I was in a fucking rush so I had a fucking cold bit of toast my dad had left out for me (with no nothing on it) and a fucking mouthful of fucking chili con carne from the night before.

― dog latin (dog latin), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I had some fucking hot tea, bitch. Hot water from a motherfucking kettle. With that, I ate a big ol' bowl of HOT APPLE OATMEAL. Suck on that one.

― Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

instant oatmeal, every day, at work. I managed to eat toast before leaving the house this morning.

― anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 18:32 (twenty-two years ago)

db, what's the "Smart water"? I used to be really into smart drinks in the early 90s, but they all tasted like bark and mulch. (I still think some of them did help me focus, though.) Then all of a sudden everyone was selling stimulants instead and I haven't much seen em.

My breakfast was posted elsewhere; asparagus, biscuits, roast beef w/ onion-wine gravy, two mugs of coffee.

― Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 18:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Fuckin' A dawg, my weak pansy-ass nancy-boy breakfast of a shitstaining multivitamin and a bitch-ass-motherfucking chug of tart-as-god-damn pure-shit cranberry juice whoops yer shit's FATTY BOOMBALATTY ASS EXPANDING adult-diaper-filler to SHIT.

Tep, Smart Water is this motherfucking shit.

(I'm giving it a try because apparently I don't absorb potassium very well.. it's a genetic thing.. and fainting is a common side effect of lack of potassium.. and Gatorade and Smart Water and stuff like that is supposed to be great to help supplement potassium)

Steelcut oats w apple & cinnamon -Mr Veg makes a big batch on Sunday night in the slow cooker so I can eat it every morning during the week.

I mix in some unsalted peanut butter & pour on almond milk & occasionally top w blueberries.

It’s so good having it already prepared (and even better that Mr Veg happily makes it every week!) -my bfast eating habits would be much poorer without it

― werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 24 September 2026 22:00 (four weeks ago)

I've been making multi-gallon batches of ranchero sauce, freezing them in serving size ziplog bags, and commonly having huevos rancheros in the morning.

― fajita seas, Thursday, 24 September 2026 22:08 (four weeks ago)

which maligned energy drink?

Alec Waugh (brother of Evelyn) recommends sherry around 11am, either with biscuits or olives.. and I occasionally enjoy this, well semi-often

― Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 24 September 2026 22:10 (four weeks ago)

Typically soft boiled eggs and leftovers so curry, stew, kimchi soup, or whatever was for dinner last night. If no leftovers then instant miso soup . Theres always rice in the rice cooker and ochazuke and natto are favorites of my son. Or porridge.

My favourite breakfast out right now is at a cafe near work consists of steak, eggs half an avocado a potato rosti, with crispy fried kale and chimichuri sauce. Or the falco ham and Comte croissant.

― Ed, Thursday, 24 September 2026 22:15 (four weeks ago)

I am regretting the demise of the Irish cafe near us that would do a big plate of black and white pudding with toast eggs and avocado. Chef brown sauce, of course.

Although that’s now got me thinking of breakfast arepas from a completely different place in the other direction.

― Ed, Thursday, 24 September 2026 22:18 (four weeks ago)

curry, stew, kimchi soup

my gf is ukrainadian (from Alberta) and she's always doing weird shit like steamed greens for breakfast and I just want hashbrowns or potatoes o'brien

― Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 24 September 2026 22:19 (four weeks ago)

cooked vegetables for breakfast are underrated

― shaking babies (map), Thursday, 24 September 2026 23:24 (four weeks ago)

consists of steak, eggs half an avocado a potato rosti, with crispy fried kale and chimichuri sauce

this sounds perfect

― shaking babies (map), Thursday, 24 September 2026 23:27 (four weeks ago)

A quiche with a salad is great for any meal including breakfast.

― il lavoro mi rovina la giornata (PBKR), Thursday, 24 September 2026 23:27 (four weeks ago)

― Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 24 September 2026 23:27 (four weeks ago)

xxp honestly though give me southern style collard greens in place of the potato and crispy kale and i'm paying 20 bucks for that shit no questions asked.

― shaking babies (map), Thursday, 24 September 2026 23:29 (four weeks ago)

quiche is lovely. i've had it too often in the past. best once a month or so imo.

this morning i had time and space so i browned yellow onion, added red bell pepper, added zucchini, added 2 roma tomatoes, some chopped garlic, smoked paprika, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper, deeply cooking all the vegetables with lots of time between adds, then eggs (3 full, 3 whites-only). served it on a toasted pita from tj's. it was the best breakfast i've had in ages.

― shaking babies (map), Thursday, 24 September 2026 23:35 (four weeks ago)

sounds pretty healthy... but why no yolks?

― Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 24 September 2026 23:43 (four weeks ago)

24 oz. of black coffee is my normal breakfast. I'm just not hungry first thing in the morning. I like cereal, but only as an after dinner snack/dessert.

― Josefa, Thursday, 24 September 2026 23:49 (four weeks ago)

Joes Special

― brimstead, Thursday, 24 September 2026 23:51 (four weeks ago)

map, that sounds good except the no yolks, the yolks are the best part! Eggs are the only healthy breakfast food imo.

agree Josefa, black coffee is my breakfast

― Dan S, Thursday, 24 September 2026 23:54 (four weeks ago)

Joe's Special is a recipe from my favorite SF restaurant, originally called New Joe's before my time, then Little Joe's in the 80s, and now Original Joe's in North Beach

― Dan S, Friday, 25 September 2026 00:02 (four weeks ago)

coffee then either cereal (currently Kashi peanut butter crunch + multigrain flakes) or a mixture of oatmeal + Bob's Red Mill muesli.

think i've been eating same breakfast (coffee + cereal) for ~40 years

― that's not my post, Friday, 25 September 2026 00:37 (four weeks ago)

weekdays i'm mostly doing these bougie painterland sisters yogurts with some blueberries and pumpkin seeds mixed in. the passion fruit flavor is amazing and certainly the best fruit/yogurt integration i've ever had.

other times i will mess around with breakfast sandwich concepts--recent one was like a bacon/egg/garlic aioli on sourdough. pancakes or waffles for my daughter if i have time on a weekend morning.

one i used to do that i miss is soft-boiled eggs on buttery toast. i love breakfast foods but am not that hungry in the morning so anything beyond the yogurt/fruit is basically an occasional treat.

― call all destroyer, Friday, 25 September 2026 00:52 (four weeks ago)

anyone like beans on toast for b-fast? I don't do it often (rarely keep sliced bread around) but I do enjoy and it's good for your bowels

― Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 25 September 2026 00:59 (four weeks ago)

That’s a lunchtime food for me. I don’t adore tinned beans so I make my own, freeze them, then defrost when I’m in the mood.

Every recipe for beans on toast attracts commenters that mock the proceedings and claim it’s as easy as Heinz but well I cannot tell you how delicious beans and toast are when you make the beans from scratch

― brb (flamboyant goon tie included), Friday, 25 September 2026 01:09 (four weeks ago)

“Making breakfast” has long been a part of my love language but my last bf didn’t eat breakfast and I kinda lost my touch as a result, sad sad. Eggs with bearnaise sauce was a fairly normal weekend treat.

I must admit that I’ve never mastered hash browns

― brb (flamboyant goon tie included), Friday, 25 September 2026 01:12 (four weeks ago)

I like beans and garlic toast in broth, I make it for dinner

Quiche = portable
Omelette

A common takeout thing round here is a breakfast quiche with some combo of bacon tomatoes cheese mushroom and, occasionally courgettes

― Ed, Friday, 25 September 2026 01:25 (four weeks ago)

rarely keep sliced bread around

Maybe you should, I hear it's one of the best things

― Paprikachu (Ye Mad Puffin), Friday, 25 September 2026 09:08 (four weeks ago)

I just have a big bowl of cereal. I mix a few together for a bit of variety. mostly no added sugar ones like muesli and Shredded Wheat. and semi-skimmed milk. coffee after.

I find it really hard to go without breakfast, I feel sick and a bit shaky if I don't eat in the morning. interesting how some people don't eat breakfast at all

― Colonel Poo, Friday, 25 September 2026 09:23 (four weeks ago)

I should try grape nuts again. I ate them wrong as a kid and I was so offended that I have never wanted them in my sight.

I work in food banking, loosely speaking, and there is often various forms of surplus food hanging around, so a couple of weeks ago someone put 2-lb bags of dried potato flakes in the "take" area, and I said what the hell and took one. You reconstitute with water and milk/butter, comes together very easily.

Was planning to use them to thicken soups etc but you know what? They make a damn good "fried potato pancake," not exactly a latke but a mashed potato pancake that you can augment with cheese, herbs, greens, a breakfast meat if you like, other veg, any leftovers you have around, and top with a fried egg or two. Honestly perfect with a crusty outside that you let develop in the cast iron pan.

Weekdays always Greek yoghurt with a handful of toasted seeds/nuts and half a pink grapefruit stirred through. Weekend could be whatever but my favourite is a thick slice of good bread, toasted, with salted butter, slices of cuore del vesuvio tomato and a few vinegary boquerones

xxxp I fucking love potato pancakes, with sour cream and/or applesauce and maybe chives, that would be my last meal on execution day. However, I'm reluctant to make them at home because of the smoke.. you might try mixing an egg *with* the flakes

― Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 25 September 2026 17:05 (four weeks ago)

Maybe! I dind't exactly deep fry them, that would NO DOUBT be delicious and might need an egg to stick together for that. Will try with apple sauce next time! I mixed in some herbed goat cheese and lots of parsley this time around.

Joes Special

― brimstead

oh wow... my mother made this for me growing up and I was always "who's Joe? Montana?"

Despite adoring OJ's (went to the estranged San Jose joint as a kid, then Westlake and the North Beach Original Joe's when it opened up) I had never ordered Joe's Special there.

― octobeard, Saturday, 26 September 2026 00:14 (three weeks ago)

I cook TJ's uncured bacon and Farmer John's maple breakfast sausages in batches and put them into the freezer so I can have a bacon and eggs or sausage and eggs breakfast, with toast, when I want it. The eggs are really the only healthy part, and I only do it once in a while, but I love it

― Dan S, Saturday, 26 September 2026 00:53 (three weeks ago)
