suzy (suzy), Thursday, 1 April 2004 13:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I jogged on Tuesday. But only for about 10 minutes - I am very unfit and must break myself in again gently ahem. The mornings are beautiful down by Hove seafront at the moment though.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 1 April 2004 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe we should all do Run London this year...

...

guys?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 1 April 2004 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I agree, we should.

I like running, especially in the park rather than on the pavement. I'm just not so good at it.

chris (chris), Thursday, 1 April 2004 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

i've moved beyond the point where my lungs and heart try to eat their way out of my chest, and it didn't take long actually! now i can run til my legs get tuckered out, about 20-30 minutes is my max

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 1 April 2004 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't jog. I power-walk. But, as anyone who has ever tried to keep up with me while power-walking can attest, it's pretty full-on exercise.

I used to do it every bloody day, but now I'm down to about 4 times a week. :-(

Super-Kate (kate), Thursday, 1 April 2004 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

how long did it take to get through the wuss barrier TH?

chris (chris), Thursday, 1 April 2004 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

still there. those wusses are tougher than they look.

suzy i know all about jim fixx. but i've got a looooooong way to go before my death-by-heart-attack reaches those ironic heights. i mean, what's great about the jogging is that it really makes cigarettes delicious!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 1 April 2004 13:35 (twenty-one years ago)

also, the babes i come home with in my convertible at 6am say that it's made me a stallion in the sack!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 1 April 2004 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm just kidding. i don't actually have a convertible.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 1 April 2004 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

putting a stallion in a sack is just twisted you cruel bastard

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 1 April 2004 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

jogger guilt!

i run 3-4 times a week from my house down to the beach through the park then take the Muni train back.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 1 April 2004 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

it's just over 4 miles. i try to finish in 30 minutes or beat the sunset (which is getting easier these days).

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 1 April 2004 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

It used to be my least favorite thing in the world, but now I enjoy it. I just started up a couple weeks ago after taking off since last summer, and it's sorely needed. It really didn't take very long to build up a little endurance either. I usually go around the neighborhood for around 20-25 min (no idea how far that is, although I'm curious).

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Thursday, 1 April 2004 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Jogging makes my teeth hurt, for some reason. Also, I got whacked really hard in the shoulder blade with a baseball when I was about thirteen, and then dropped on the same shoulder years later by a drunk guy who was trying to run with me on his back, and ever since, I've been afflicted with shooting pain in that shoulder blade every time I've tried to jog or do any kind of cardio for more than ten or fifteen minutes. So I don't really exercise at all. Fortunately, my metabolism is still holding its own, but I realize I probably don't have many more years of living on pizza and booze and sausages and still fitting into my jeans. I'm kind of sad now.

kirsten (kirsten), Thursday, 1 April 2004 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I run all the time... It's good for you. But since I joined the Y, I spend more time on the rowing machine, pretending to be a Viking. Then I go sit naked in the sauna and I AM a Viking.

But I still run a quick mile for warmup. If you start doing ANY kind of excercise you'll be much better later on.

andy, Thursday, 1 April 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't been able to jog since the beginning of December because it's been too damn cold. Running in the cold makes me feel ill when I'm done, and it's probably not good on your joints. I have a heart murmur and thus can have only been able to go about 3 miles before my chest feels like it will implode.
Just started up again this week, but my big toe on my left foot feels like it's being stung by a a dozen bees if I step on it wrong. There's no bruise on it, can't feel any abnormality within it, can poke and prod it with my hand without pain. Puzzling.

oops (Oops), Thursday, 1 April 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm exhausted from not sleeping enough and I have to play another gig tonight...I can't decide if I should take a nap right after work or go jogging. I could see either one being revitalizing or leaving me more tired. WHAT DO I DO?!?!

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 1 April 2004 21:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Gigging means a late night with beer, Lauren, so I'd nap. Why jog, when you can walk miles and miles and....

Plus, less sweatiness

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 1 April 2004 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i jsut started running again about a month ago. ive been fighting a headcold and the weather has been an issue, but it feels good.

the first day i went out i was wearing a few too many layers.

kephm, Thursday, 1 April 2004 21:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I've started again this week. It's easier now that I'm also an occasional tramper and a frequent swimmer.
I go at night. My shoes are too loud though they go thwack against the pavement and wake up the neighbourhood.

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Thursday, 1 April 2004 22:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I run. Just got some new New Balances that are teh rrok.

Where does one jog in Manhattan, anyway?

Aaron A., Thursday, 1 April 2004 22:35 (twenty-one years ago)

or does TRACER HAND live in Brklyn...

Aaron A., Thursday, 1 April 2004 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Where does one jog in Manhattan, anyway?

Central Park, for starters.

Traitor Hand lives in London.

hstencil, Thursday, 1 April 2004 22:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, another late night runner! I always start at 9:30- but I just inside at that hour, at my gym. I haven't been able go for about 6 weeks now, because I hurt my back, but I should be able to start again soon. Finally... but I am going to pretty sore for the first few weeks, I'd guess, since I've had 6 weeks of no exercise at all. :-(

lyra (lyra), Friday, 2 April 2004 03:25 (twenty-one years ago)

three years pass...
hi my name is cutty and i like to jog

cutty, Monday, 14 May 2007 14:02 (eighteen years ago)

also i've been totally brainwashed by nike's "free" schtick

cutty, Monday, 14 May 2007 14:02 (eighteen years ago)

but i must say that reebok's "run easy" campaign is charming

cutty, Monday, 14 May 2007 14:02 (eighteen years ago)

HI CUTTY

Tracer Hand, Monday, 14 May 2007 14:30 (eighteen years ago)

do you go jogging when u have a cold?

i can't decide but i feel too tired

deej, Monday, 14 May 2007 15:11 (eighteen years ago)

sometimes a brisk jog will accelerate your bounce back after a cold

cutty, Monday, 14 May 2007 15:22 (eighteen years ago)

I'm an occasional jogger and like it. Jersey City waterfront is awesome for jogging because it looks like a CAD drawing of itself.

Hurting 2, Monday, 14 May 2007 16:02 (eighteen years ago)

The people even look like those generic computer model people.

Hurting 2, Monday, 14 May 2007 16:14 (eighteen years ago)

i've turned into a regular jogger, with proper shoes and all. i'd like an outdoor running partner, but sadly i'm pretty sure that cutty would be too fast for me.

lauren, Monday, 14 May 2007 16:51 (eighteen years ago)

I would like to become a regular runner.

Ms Misery, Monday, 14 May 2007 16:52 (eighteen years ago)

see lauren knows how extreme i am

cutty, Monday, 14 May 2007 16:52 (eighteen years ago)

Those are pretty good ads - they actually make you feel like running, as opposed to the Nike ones that give you the impression that only driven, self-punishing types jog.

Hurting 2, Monday, 14 May 2007 16:55 (eighteen years ago)

i bought some saucony running shoes which is helping to motivate me.

not helping to motivate me is cold-related body aches and congestion. maybe i'll just jog half a mile, or something.

i've been using a treadmill and running about 2 miles a day (maybe more like 1 3/4ths miles really) but it feels really good.

deej, Monday, 14 May 2007 16:59 (eighteen years ago)

I sometimes like to jog.

This website is kinda convenient if you want to find out exactly how far you're running:

http://www.mapmyrun.com/

o. nate, Monday, 14 May 2007 17:00 (eighteen years ago)

i was told that if you have symptoms below the neck (nausea, aches, chills, etc) then you should take it easy.

xpost

lauren, Monday, 14 May 2007 17:02 (eighteen years ago)

that site looks cool although I couldn't really figure out how to use it.

I ran once last week. It was great. I just have to get in the habit of getting my lazy ass out of the bed in the morning.

Ms Misery, Monday, 14 May 2007 17:04 (eighteen years ago)

I jog when it's nice out, use elliptical more often (I feel like I'll mess up my knees if I run outside every day).

Jordan, Monday, 14 May 2007 17:06 (eighteen years ago)

The latter is why I've resisted running again. (I did regularly about 7 years ago but have too many joint issues now.) However I've gained weight and this is the easiest, most excuse-free way to get myself moving again.

An elliptical or a treadmill would be nice.

Ms Misery, Monday, 14 May 2007 17:07 (eighteen years ago)

driven, self-punishing types are the only types that will ever be in shape

cutty, Monday, 14 May 2007 17:11 (eighteen years ago)

I usually exercise at 8 o'clock at nigh....I can't get outta bed worth shit, and then it makes me nice and tuckered out for bedtime.

Abbott, Monday, 14 May 2007 17:11 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe there's a market for personal trainers who are actually also dominatrixes?

Tracer Hand, Monday, 14 May 2007 17:12 (eighteen years ago)

that site looks cool although I couldn't really figure out how to use it.

You type in the starting address on the left. Then when the map comes up, you use the drawing tools on the right to map out your route. (Put the Start icon on your starting point, add points along the way each time you make a turn, then put the End icon at the end.) It will automatically calculate the distance when you're done. It takes a couple of minutes tops.

o. nate, Monday, 14 May 2007 17:16 (eighteen years ago)

i am going to drink more coffee and go for a jog

rrrobyn, Monday, 14 May 2007 17:18 (eighteen years ago)

how long do you wait after eating to run

deej, Monday, 14 May 2007 17:21 (eighteen years ago)

i ran 30 mins after downing a gyros and greek fries once. bad move

deej, Monday, 14 May 2007 17:21 (eighteen years ago)

generally you should run 30 minutes to an hour after eating--but i think 30 minutes is dangerous for gyros and fries

cutty, Monday, 14 May 2007 17:30 (eighteen years ago)

how long do you wait after running to eat = 0 minutes

Dr Morbius, Monday, 14 May 2007 17:32 (eighteen years ago)

I've run regularly and somewhat competitively for 14 years now. I'd say wait at least two hours after eating to run. I usually wait three. But I'll drink coffee right up until I run as long as I'm well hydrated otherwise (ie, not from other caffeinated fluids).

matt2, Monday, 14 May 2007 18:39 (eighteen years ago)

driven, self-punishing types are the only types that will ever be in shape

-- cutty, Monday, May 14, 2007 1:11 PM (4 hours ago)

This is the classic American notion of fitness. Many people in other countries find it strange and funny.
