What THE FUCK are you doing?

I saw someone doing this on BART today. Have we not moved beyond the most rudimentary understanding of this technology yet?

Surely there is a lot of diverse opinion on this subject.

It is very tempting to do when the person on the other end of the line cannot understand what you are saying. I like to make a "XX-chhhh" like I am using a walkie-talkie on manouveres in Vietnam.

No-one has a head small enough to make a mobile phone work properly.

this is sometimes necessary with teh Nextel two-way, if the volume is too low or you're in a busy environment

pete, you have been doing this all the time, whether you realise or not. it looks very funny.

I see all the teenage sisters doing it. I think it might be bling-bling.

Maybe if you have a long head or high ears this is necessary.

i do it because it is fun!! also it lets you ignore the other person and concentrate on what you are saying when it is your turn to speak.

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 1 April 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I've done this once or twice because the volume control affects both incoming and outgoing volume, but sometimes when I turn it up high enough to be heard, the incoming volume is far too loud. (On maximum volume, the incoming sound on my phone is audible and intelligible across the room.)

No-one has a head small enough to make a mobile phone work properly.

This isn't true. Modern movbile phones don't even have a mouthpiece/microphone pick-up as such, they get your voice from vibrations between your head and the phone. Thus, you can actually have a perfectly decent conversation with someone even if the "bottom" of your phone is pointing straight up in the air, as lnog as the earpiece is touching your ear. But if you don't hold the phone physically to your ear, often the person you're talking to can barely hear you at all. Try it, honestly!

what if you put the whole phone in your mouth?

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 1 April 2004 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

*burp*
