Another Classic TV Moment

On the this evening's BBC1 political review programme 'This Week', Shane Macgowan was on as a guest to 'discuss' the anti-smoking ban just instituted in Ireland...
He was vampire-film pale, a giant white vamprabbit frozen in oncoming headlights - almost impossible to understand, voice trailing off into silence, seconds at a time of catatonic staring into nothingness - it was simultaneously painful/hilarious/car-crash-fascinating to watch.

I couldn't tell - was he particularly shitfaced, or is he permananetly fuxored ?

You could see guest presenter J Street-Porter trying not to crack up with laughter - Diane Abbot looked very pissed off, and Portillo, to his credit, kept his composure and kept it going...

does the career trajectory of any researcher/booker who had this bright idea take a bit of a hit after thing like this - or does the director/production team who approved it take ultimate responsibility ?

it was hilarious. no the director likely sanctioned it cos they're tryiing to create 'must see telly', it's their brief. that's why last week they had asher d on, even though he was clearly unsuited to the sort of debate that the programme aims for. he was too combative, he kept accusing everyone of 'not getting the point'.
