The building: classic.
The idea: mostly classic.
Execution: dud.

Me too, and if they buy Apple then I may start cleaning their toes and feeding them grapes!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 2 April 2004 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Can't stand that place. Sonic pollution. Rampant corporate greed. Cracks me up though that they charge $2.00 or so for a bottle of Dasani when there are fountains in the hall.

Michael White (Hereward), Friday, 2 April 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

6 foot tall Gundam heads in the Metreon's anime shop = classic.

Kingfish Hypercolor (Kingfish), Friday, 2 April 2004 21:36 (twenty-one years ago)

C'mon, MW. It's a great place to see a movie on the opening day.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 2 April 2004 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Even if it is The Hulk.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 2 April 2004 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

bah, this place annoys me every time I go. it's way too loud and the little stalls (chronicle books, just desserts) are dumb. in five years (if not sooner) it will look so dated and lame, like those 70's strip malls that slowly fell into disrepair. It's a lame futuristic design that isn't going to last. The theaters are comfortable though, too bad they're always crowded full of idiots.

I kind of like the sony store though. I just wasted $40 on crappy earbuds there but spent the bulk of my time watching TV.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Friday, 2 April 2004 21:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Me too, and if they buy Apple ...

is this some kind of rumor that is circulating?

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Friday, 2 April 2004 21:43 (twenty-one years ago)

cludic (yes i said cludic. i can't decide) for the silly electro music that's alway playing in the entranceways.

JaXoN (JasonD), Friday, 2 April 2004 21:43 (twenty-one years ago)

the yerba buena gardens right outside are totally classic. i've got tons of pix of people sleeping on the grass. pretty funny/creepy (are they sleeping? are they dead?)

JaXoN (JasonD), Friday, 2 April 2004 21:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i always hang out in the grassy area. it's a nice spot.

(but if that 'where the wild things are' playarea was larger and aimed at drugged up adults, the metreon would be ultraclassic)

dean! (deangulberry), Friday, 2 April 2004 21:47 (twenty-one years ago)

The YB Gardens at lunchtime are a sea of oiled hairy chests and nipple rings.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 2 April 2004 21:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, well Dean does hang out there.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 2 April 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

is this some kind of rumor that is circulating?

a rumor, or a spot of wishful thinking in Wired?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 2 April 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i am the tractive force that keeps that sea rockin

dean! (deangulberry), Friday, 2 April 2004 21:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Did Moebius really do the art in the arcade? I thought he was dead.

(I once played an extremely awkward set there; parents with their kids on shoulders en route to "Snow Dogs" et al. There should never be any music played in there at all.)

andy, Friday, 2 April 2004 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I interviewed for a job at Chronicle, and the girl interviewing me was telling me how she saw The Strokes and Radiohead in there and generally acting all hep.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 2 April 2004 21:57 (twenty-one years ago)

this thread makes me miss san francisco

dean! (deangulberry), Friday, 2 April 2004 22:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I was going to go see the Sigfreid & Roy film there but pussed out. I heard it was dope.

(Hey, has anybody seen the IMAX "Young Black Stallion"? I keep asking and nobody will give me a review. I'm fascinated by desert horse pix, just saw "Hidalgo" and LOVED it.)

andy, Friday, 2 April 2004 22:11 (twenty-one years ago)

ask some eight year olds, andy!

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Friday, 2 April 2004 22:22 (twenty-one years ago)

But...carefully.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 2 April 2004 22:33 (twenty-one years ago)

You all just gave me carte blanche to be who I want to be... thank you. C-YA on the playground.

andy, Friday, 2 April 2004 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
I think I'll go to the food court for lunch!

Jeromathan Millions (nordicskilla), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

And maybe buy something from THINGS FROM ANOTHER WORLD

Jeromathan Millions (nordicskilla), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:18 (twenty years ago)

I like Chronicle Books! The books, not the store.

Jeromathan Millions (nordicskilla), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:27 (twenty years ago)

I remember the Long Life Noodle Co., and... uh... that's about it. It's where I saw "Lost in Translation" and the assholes in front of me wouldn't shut up.

Curious George (1/6 Scale Model) (Rock Hardy), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:29 (twenty years ago)

sounds about right

Damn, that book looks awesome. Hmm, six bucks...

Curious George (1/6 Scale Model) (Rock Hardy), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:37 (twenty years ago)

Holy shit that looks great. I still hate the Metreon though.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 8 April 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

it was delicious

Jeromathan Millions (nordicskilla), Friday, 8 April 2005 20:16 (twenty years ago)

The postcard from the golden age of Mexican cinema was delicious?

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 8 April 2005 21:23 (twenty years ago)

the metreon gives me shivers. but the theater is comfortable. is it wrong for me to like big comfortable multiplex seating?

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 8 April 2005 21:29 (twenty years ago)

yes, yes it is. it's like saying that you like chain restaurants!

Jeromathan Millions (nordicskilla), Friday, 8 April 2005 21:33 (twenty years ago)
