If you were, like, a mixin'-it-up DJ, what verbal samples would you put in a funky breakbeat type thing?

You know, from movies or tv or whatever. My favourite one that I've thought of comes from The Usual Suspects. I like the idea of a song which goes bamboombababoomtssboomtsstatatat..."Mister Soze's primary interest is narcotics"...BOOMtatboomtat...etc.

bamboombababoomtssboomtsstatatat... 'Its time to play the music, It's time to light the lights, its time to put on make up on the Muppet show tonight' bamboombababoomtssboomtsstatatat...

One i've long dreamed of is from "Inspector Morse". there's this scene where some college ceremony is going on and kevin Whateley's character spots someone (with a gun or a bomb or something) and he shouts out "Everyone in the quad, get down!!!". i laughed hard. it's the geordieness and the word "quad" i think

Alan Trewartha, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ah, that's reminded me of that old hardcore tune that sampled Inspector Morse saying 'It's a rave, Lewis!'.

RickyT, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'd love to sample Darryl Hannah's screeching from "Splash" into a song.

Dan Perry, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Clive Tyldesley. I shall have to leave it to another contributor to supply the exact words.

"They're not going to do it are they Ron"

Jonnie, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Brad Pitt yelling "Whoa! Whoa!" from Fight Club vs. Keanu Reeves yelling "Whoa!" in The Matrix. With a break-in from Phil Hartman on NewsRadio going, "Now that's just sick".

Ally, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

How bout "Could be danger here".

Sam, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

oh I forgot, MewTwo saying anything, probably: "You dare to defy my power?"

Alan Trewartha, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

MEW saying anything!!!!!

Sarah, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"Do you think I'm fancy?"

Nicole, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The classic Pat Butcher/Peggy Mitchell plate throwing, name calling shebang would cut up well.

Jonnie, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

'I'll flip ya, I'll flip ya for real.'

bamboombababoomtssboomtsstatatat...We are the music makers and we are the dreamers of the dreams...BOOMtatboomtat

jamesmichaelward, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

surely someone has sampled that awful character from family matters? Steve Urkle, saying "did I do that?"

there is an ad on in Z at the moment, featuring Jo Cotton who was a member of 'True Bliss' NZ's made for TV pop band. She is saying the immortal words Shaggy, Shag me, (and some other tripe) I'd like to see her immortalised or at least the world suffer.

Menelaus Darcy, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"I'll take you down. I'll take you down to Chinatown, Focker".

Ally, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sam, the Usual Suspects? Maybe you could name yerself DJ Fun Lovin'Slim Boy. ;-)

helen fordsdale, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"And I, AARDVARK RATNICK, will RULE THE WORLD! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

Ned Raggett, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to shoot you." "Righto sir."

Sam, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"Bass? How low can you go?"

"I'd like a haircut please."

james, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"It's a killing machine designed to do one thing..."

"What's that?"

"Search and destroy."

Tracer Hand, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hey tracer, that's my favorite film quote ever too...

Sterling Clover, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i'd just sample annie hall a lot.

ethan, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

... Tho I remember it as "It's a killing machine designed for only one thing.. searching and destroying." which is just that much more awkward, eh?

Sterling Clover, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"has anybody seen my underwear?"

james, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It's just unbelievable that Keanu doesn't break into wide Bill nTed grin and instead of saying "what's that?" say "KILLING!"

Tracer Hand, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"What's your damage?"

Dan Perry, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

that search and destroy thing would be good for the next song about ilx. are there any movies about classics or duds?

ethan, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"how very". "we wouldn't be people... we'd be gameshow hosts." "i love my dead gay son." "our love is god, let's go get a slushie." "A family's like a gun. You point it in the wrong direction, you're gonna kill somebody." "could everybody please stop getting fucking shot."

Sterling Clover, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

... just checking. heh.

Sterling Clover, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

How about the following from the classic 80's movie TRON: 'you forget how good the power feels until you find a pure source'. (suit abient more than big beats, but lovely out of context none-the-less

Sidey, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Good olde TRON! I'd love Charlie Brown saying "I gotta rock", what you mean thats been done already???

Im always partial to Homer screaming "In This House We Obey The Laws of Thermodynamics!".

Mr Noodles, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i always wanted to do a hardcore techno track with a sample of someone saying "noam chomsky" over and over again. take the "spin spin spin" part from the shadow ring's "animal dial" and make it rhythmic. various things from _happiness_ and _strangers with candy_.

your null fame, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Withnail shouting: "I'm a trained actor reduced to the status of a bum" at which point my breakbeats would kick in.

Also in mind: Sgt Hartmann in Full Metal Jacket screaming: "Get up!" after he punches Private Joker in his belly causing him to fall down.
