Yes I know, another FAP, but hey, it's more drinking right? As you most probably know we're getting hitched in NYC on April the 24th, so we thought we'd have a little party a week before.

The Location: The Fitzroy Tavern (downstairs)- Charlotte street
Long time Ilxors may well know it already as the site of a previous sten

The Time: from around seven til we get chucked out and head off to Iberia

The Music: provided by the usual suspects

Please come, do

chris (chris), Monday, 5 April 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, alright then.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 5 April 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

cheers mate, you're alright you

chris (chris), Monday, 5 April 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I have incredibly fond memories of that little room - great choice Chris and Vicky :)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 5 April 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

hey, no crowd surfing this time, DC.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 5 April 2004 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

REALLY long time ILXors may know it as the site of two previous Stens, BOTH of which may have featured Tim Hopkins dancing.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Will the DJing be one on one off?

(Ans: eff off)

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

to be discussed in a pub.

we have to debate whether to pay the extra 35 quid to get the downstairs bar open - on the one hand - very handy, on the other danger of bar staff telling MDC to stop crowd surfing

chris (chris), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.fancyapint.com/thepubs/pub6.htm

although the directions aren't great, as they should read:

from tottenham court road tube, walk up tottenham court road on the left hand side until you get to a pub called the rising sun, turn left down that road and the fitz is at the end on the right.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Have a fantastic time y'all - I'm at a rival stag weekend in Southend (was originally Estonia, chiz). I'll see you 5 days later anyway :)

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder if my ex from seven years ago will turn up again.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, C&V, the GLW and I will already be in the U of SA by then. Giving it a ruddy good clean in prep for yr arrival.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Me, please!

Sarah (starry), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

If you could Jonesy, that would be lovely.

chris (chris), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I will be feasting on lambchops in High Wycombe, so sorry but can't come.

Mooro (Mooro), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

:'''''(

chris (chris), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

You can stop dribbling now, I really meant Lambchop.

Mooro (Mooro), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

sod you then charlie ;o)

chris (chris), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Yay! Party party party. As long as you promise there will be no Andrew WK.

Also: BUMP.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 07:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I cannot promise that, sorry

chris (chris), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 07:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn you cabbage.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 07:44 (twenty-one years ago)

IT'S TRADITION

chris (chris), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 07:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Schmadition.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 07:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Would you be happy if we changed it from We Want Fun to Party Til You Puke?

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 07:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Can you play Who Ate All The Pies by Wiley? This record needs to be given an ILX outing as soon as possible.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 08:13 (twenty-one years ago)

get it to me and yes, I heard Wot U call it at the weekend and was very impressed indeed. Is the album out?

chris (chris), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 08:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Not yet, I have Toby to thank for a copy. But yes, the chorus is THAT 'Who Ate All The Pies?' - hence gigantic potential for big drunken singalong.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 08:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I would be very surprised if there wasn't a CD-R floating around at the party.

You will like "Pies" Chris!

(Liz there will be no Andrew WK at Club Popular, unless by some miracle he has a #1 between now and then. Anyway you would make a very dapper crowdsurfer.)

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 08:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Who Ate All The Pies

Is this like The Macc Lads' 'You Fat Bastard'? That would be Sweet.

Mooro (Mooro), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Mooro, is there a concert in High Wycombe?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 09:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, Peter. Swan Theatre, The Clientele supporting Lambchop.

Too lazy for blue writing, so http://www.wycombeswan.co.uk/whatson/april/lambchop.html

The gig two nights before looks fab, too.

Mooro (Mooro), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 09:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Cheers, Mooro, will check it out properly after the tie breaker on Popmaster.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 09:22 (twenty-one years ago)

will this be late licence?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 09:23 (twenty-one years ago)

unfortunately not, hence the Iberian excursion

chris (chris), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 09:24 (twenty-one years ago)

An Evening with William Hague looks good too. I wonder if the bunged-up public schoolboys will choose that evening to get a feel for the venue?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 09:35 (twenty-one years ago)

b-but Joe Pasquale!!!!

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 09:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know who he is.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 09:39 (twenty-one years ago)

He is an annoying "comedian" whose thing is that he speaks like he's been inhaling helium. He's not very funny, but is inexplicably popular with the kind of people who go to end-of-pier variety shows, in the manner of something like the Grumbleweeds.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 09:43 (twenty-one years ago)

If there's any AWK there may be no wedding ;0)

Vicky (Vicky), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 09:44 (twenty-one years ago)

*digs out AWK collection*

Cabbage's secret lover (Madchen), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

eep!

chris (chris), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

and she's not really joking!!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

ha ha - same night as tigermilking

chris (chris), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 14:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Dunno if there's much of a crossover these days, Chris.

(and no, I'm not involved in it any more. I sold the name for goodwill and a pint, if I remember correctly)

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I will be along, of course.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

important question: do we pay the extra for the bar staff in the bar downstairs? I need to ring back in the next hour

chris (chris), Thursday, 8 April 2004 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes.

Not that I care because I'll be in America, but yes you should. Or have a whip round. Those stairs are treacherous.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 8 April 2004 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

this is the sort of valuable input I need, any more?

by the way T, I can't get hold of V re: arrangements

chris (chris), Thursday, 8 April 2004 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

At Mr and Mrs Ewing's party getting to the main bar in the Fitzroy was a nightmare for a lot of the night. I'd say yes.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 8 April 2004 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll say yes then, it's not pricey or owt, just wondered whether we'd want staff down there after MDCs "antics" last time out ;o)

chris (chris), Thursday, 8 April 2004 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

for everything

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 18 April 2004 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

note to self: you are OLD, going to stoopid clubs until stoopid o'clock will lead only to ruin, badness and wrongness

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 18 April 2004 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

When did everyone leave? I think it was just myself, Gareth and Sally left at the end.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 18 April 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i left just after 2 and got in the house at 3. i have been bad and not gone to see my friend john run the marathon :(

when is the end of xmas club, 3 or 4?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 18 April 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow. The marathon. I'd forgotten about HALF OF BLOODY LONDON DESCENDING RIGHT OUTSIDE MY WINDOW and subsequently slept right through it.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 18 April 2004 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, I vaguely remember Boys Don't Cry.

was this late on? cos i don't remember it, and i think my memory's intact.

rhinestone cowboy was indeed genius - pete's use of the lighting for "...but I'm gonna be where the lights are shinin' on me" was fantastic.

When did everyone leave? I think it was just myself, Gareth and Sally left at the end.

stevem and cis left at about 2 i think? and carsmile around the same time. can't remember if it was before or after. anna and i left at about ten to 3, they were playing i am the resurrection and it seemed quite end-of-the-night, although the bar was still open. when did it finish?

key quote of the night was probably gareth's "if you're trying to pull in a club, you should think: 'would dillinja do this?'. and if he wouldn't, you shouldn't."

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 18 April 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

also earlier in the evening tom's interrogation on the matter of carter was somewhat terrifying. actually the whole evening was fantastic, sorry i didn't talk to eiher chris or vicky, i got too drunk too quickly...

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 18 April 2004 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

i remember boys don't cry, so it can't have been that late.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 18 April 2004 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, ok. nb: matt, if you don't remember the music, what do you remember?!

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 18 April 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you quite sure he meant Dillinja (drum & bass DJ) as opposed to Dillinger (old reggae toaster)? I'm not sure what the significance of the difference might be.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I vaguely remember an empty dancefloor that filled up quite quickly. And talking to MikeyG about something. And then getting a taxi home at the end.

Gareth is now filling me in on details. I am ashamed.

Steed Malbranque (Matt DC), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Also my friend phoned me up before the Borderline and we apparently had a five minute conversation which I have no recollection of.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

So while you were doing 1992 me's idea of a perfect day and night, I was going to tedious chav nightclubs in Southend. Glad it was fun for y'all.

Markelby (Mark C), Sunday, 18 April 2004 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Dillinja is a lonely, lonely man, but the true rebels always walk alone anyhow

Borderline started off atrocious but became quite good fun by the time they played the 27th Smiths tune. I feel bad for Private Carsmile (Indie Trooper) and 'Shagger' DC, but not as much as I feel bad for myself.

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 18 April 2004 19:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Gareth going home before we went to the club then appearing in the club 20 minutes after we got in = MY HERO

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 18 April 2004 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Shagger?

I got a txt from Carsmile at 10.30ish. I was envious of the Borderline posse and having read tyhe cursory reports upthread, am still envious. I heart dancing to I am the Resurrection from the stage at the Borderline. Sorry.

Dave B (daveb), Sunday, 18 April 2004 19:30 (twenty-one years ago)

note also that gareth had gone via the astoria, which shows true dedication.

i would definitely go to the borderline again. in fact i think there should be more fap-indie night interaction.

something tells me i will in a minority on this one.

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 18 April 2004 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Sign me up! I used to go to the Borderline a lot on Friday nights...I would always ask the DJ to play Tart Tart, and he would say 'only got it on vinyl' and I'd say 'Oh well.'. Happy days...

Dave B (daveb), Sunday, 18 April 2004 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

the Borderline might be a bit of a dead end (arf)

i want my own club - one where i can hear Ty, Senor Coconut, Depeche Mode, Doobie Brothers, Alan Braxe, Chromeo, Dairy Milk Warrior, Kelis, Wiley, Gang Of Four and Gala all on the same night....

and maybe a bit of indie for 20 mins or so if you're lucky

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 18 April 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

in guitar shop with buster bloodvessel

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 18 April 2004 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Steve, is this a taste of what might be to come when the Mannion Machine takes over Club FT?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 18 April 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Something tells me that merely shouting "Spanish bar!" at the end of a FAP will not do any more. The stakes have been raised.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 18 April 2004 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Real name: Douglas Trendle.

Ally C (Ally C), Sunday, 18 April 2004 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Has the mystery of the buster bloodvessel text been solved. Ah it was RJG.

I yet again apologise for uncalled for singing at another ILx do. I think they shoot people for that kind of action in that Amerikee.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 19 April 2004 07:01 (twenty-one years ago)

We agreed that the singing was Brentian.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 19 April 2004 07:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Overslept on the nightbus. Woken up by a rasta.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Monday, 19 April 2004 07:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh wow, I'm sorry I missed all the Borderline fun now. The afternoon drinking red wine in the sunshine with The Other Lot took its toll on Liz and I so we never made it to Tigermilking either. Excellent do in the Fitzroy though.

robster (robster), Monday, 19 April 2004 07:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I got some lovely photos, not sure when we'll manage to get them up though. Ta to those that came, and apologies that I wasn't exactly the life and soul, my first night of sobriety at a FAP was...interesting. I'm so glad sam smiths have such a wide range of soft drinks though!

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 19 April 2004 07:42 (twenty-one years ago)

look forward to that vicky. all the best for next Saturday!

yes I would've liked to have made it to the Fitzroy but had already been asked by The Other Lot to DJ at Tigermilking, hence my absence both at the Sten party and upthread. It was my first dj set ever and I'd be lying if I said it didn't show, tho in my defence I *was* battling with crappy equipment.

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 19 April 2004 07:44 (twenty-one years ago)

It was a great night, unfortunately V took videos.

I am gutted we couldn't com eto the borderline too.

chris (chris), Monday, 19 April 2004 08:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Please tell me you meant to say 'photos' there Chris...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 19 April 2004 09:04 (twenty-one years ago)

unfortunately not. but hey, it's not you on the film clip doing synchronised polar bear dancing.

chris (chris), Monday, 19 April 2004 09:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Thank christ there are no photos on the web of me with that Goatee I had some time ago. But yes, my management style is BNretian so why would my singing and general demeanour not be.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 19 April 2004 09:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm really sorry I didn't show - I'd been drinking a combination of gin/vodka/beer/toffeevodka/pinacoladamix/wine since 13.30 and by 21.00 was incapable of moving - I'd also only eaten one sossidge sanger at approx 10.00 and well lets just say that my head did not feel well the next day.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 19 April 2004 09:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Pete actually has quite a good voice when he's singing properly.

(Vicky I meant to tell you on Saturday, but nice top you had on there)

Anna (Anna), Monday, 19 April 2004 09:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks Anna! It was a £10 bargain from the fred perry shop at Bicester village!

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 19 April 2004 10:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Vicky is tops.

Mooro (Mooro), Monday, 19 April 2004 10:35 (twenty-one years ago)

blimey, Bicester Village....that's almost Oxford. You have to go a long way for a bargain.

the Fred Perry factory used to be in Edmonton, where my mum lives, but when i went past recently I noticed it was derelict, so God only knows where they make Fred perry stuff these days.

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 19 April 2004 10:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I liked the girl in the French whore's hat on Saturday. That's a compliment by the way.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Monday, 19 April 2004 10:39 (twenty-one years ago)

That was me. Thanks (I think).

Anna (Anna), Monday, 19 April 2004 10:50 (twenty-one years ago)

(Blimey.)

I liked what the French whore had to say about Japanese fireflies.

'watching Charlton hammer Birmingham'

the bellefox, Monday, 19 April 2004 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

: (

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 19 April 2004 10:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Thank you Anna, I suppose like the class joker I hide my true talents behind a jolly facade, afeard of rejection.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 19 April 2004 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

you even outdid me in the Timotei department

stevem (blueski), Monday, 19 April 2004 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Anna (whoever you are), I thought that hat was nice and told my girlfriend to get one pronto.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Monday, 19 April 2004 11:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I talked to Campbell. That was good.

the bluefox, Monday, 19 April 2004 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I had a good time. Sorry I missed the Borderline. I have a lot of good photos, will revive thread and post when the New York Cru return.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 19 April 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

By the way, have a fantastic wedding, Chris and Vicky! I'm not sure I said that on Saturday.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 19 April 2004 18:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I had a nice time. I told you it was a good idea for me to go home early. Even at 9pm, after a mere three pints, I envied Vicky's sobriety. I envied Liz and Rob's chips even more. Sorry to anyone whose name didn't quite register, it was a bit like when you ask what's for pudding and the waiter reels off about sixteen different things and by the time he gets to the third one you've forgotten what the first one was. This applies more to The Other Lot really. I thought the text was 'I'm in a guitar shop about to bust a blood vessel,' so I was hoping Tim had found a vintage Rickenbacker and was planning a comeback special. End of text received from Chris at 11.30: 'Howe you got good ok.' I think that says it all. I got home in time for ITV Premiership, but I was still too excited to take it in. Next morning I watched the London Marathon FROM THE BEGINNING. I counted them all out and I counted them all back in again.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 07:57 (twenty-one years ago)

four weeks pass...
I have a lot of good photos, will revive thread and post when the New York Cru return.

The time has come.
