I feel I need a couple. Found an OK one in Bentton but it wasn't quite what I wanted. Short of flying somewherr like vietnam and getting some custom made, can the fashion steering comittee suggest a few places to look.

shouldnt this suit be white/cream/magnolia?

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Office dress code kind of precludes any homages to Alec Guinness.

Sartorial Bumping, people.

Banana Republic?

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 18 April 2004 04:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't even know if they have stores here.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 18 April 2004 05:40 (twenty-one years ago)

How strange, a world without Banana Republic. BR is not the world. And so on. Do you have J. Crew?

Shattered Mary (Mary), Sunday, 18 April 2004 07:29 (twenty-one years ago)

What's J. Crew. (NB. I am not the best person to ask about this)

Ed (dali), Sunday, 18 April 2004 07:30 (twenty-one years ago)

It's an Americanized version of English prep school.

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 18 April 2004 07:35 (twenty-one years ago)

The BR website only has a cream linen suit.I think black may be a limiting factor.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 18 April 2004 07:35 (twenty-one years ago)

That's not really what I'm going for. Dishevelled and embittered tropical foreign correspondent, only in black.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 18 April 2004 07:36 (twenty-one years ago)

You could dye it?

Here's J. Crew

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 18 April 2004 07:36 (twenty-one years ago)

How about seersucker? (It's nice to wear light colors in summer!)

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 18 April 2004 07:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Has to be black for work.

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 18 April 2004 07:54 (twenty-one years ago)

has to be black black, I could probably get away with olive or navy, but I quite want black. It's a very obtuse colour for a lightweight suit.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 18 April 2004 07:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Here's a suit for Gareth.

These summer suits are so dapper.

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 18 April 2004 07:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm currently rocking http://www.mycustomtailor.com/ and wondering what a high twist crepe linen silk blend is like.

NB I should never wear less than three buttons on a suit.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 18 April 2004 08:16 (twenty-one years ago)

How about black silk in a Mandarin stylee? Perhaps from Agnes B.?

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 00:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I went into a DC area department store last summer looking for linen/seersucker/poplin and the clerk said, "can't be wearing no poplin in DC. We're fashion-conscious here!".

Yeah, allright, and damn fuckin sweaty.

Collardio Gelatinous (collardio), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I might need a proper pimp-suit soon!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 01:20 (twenty-one years ago)

banan republic has nice suits these days for under $500 ($325 for the jacket, $150 for the trousers or something). they are not amazing but they are stylish and workmanlike. linen is bah. they have decent wools though that aren't too "suity" if you know what I mean (no pleats, not too formal).

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 02:42 (twenty-one years ago)

DC fashion consciousness noted by Roll Call magazine.. I believe Trent Lott was involved in restarting the seersucker suit tradition.

Everyone was buzzing when a large contingent of Republican Senators decided to coordinate their outfits, summer suits and saddle shoes for “Seersucker Thursday” last week.

Anyway.. aren't linen suits tough to carry off? It seems to me like one of those items of clothing you can't wear in the city unless it is very, very expensive.

daria g (daria g), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 03:54 (twenty-one years ago)

One particularly distinguished Member never stopped wearing them

gabbneb (gabbneb), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 04:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't afford agnes B, I don't think. I might try the mail order thai tailored suit for $175. I've sent away for fabric swatches.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 07:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I've ordered from them and http://www.onlinesuits.com/?source=Overture

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Marks and spencers appear to have some, cheap too. OK so the look is second rate publisher, rather than third rate tropical hack but it will do until the fabric swatches appear from thailand.

how many of you bought v cheap linen suits today?

caek, Thursday, 30 June 2011 18:14 (fourteen years ago)

I bought one from J Crew a month ago. Inexpensive yet fits great, feels great. Wore it to a wedding with white sneakers. No socks. I rocked it - so I was told.
