A simple answer: all things are unreal unless they're proven real. Physical objects are proven real by everyday experience. More abstract concepts like "Africa" are proven real by them being commonly used. (However, that doesn't mean anything else than that people use the term "Africa" to refer to certain geographical area.) God isn't real as a physical entity because he can't be proven real as such; however, "god" exists as a concept people use.
