I know one of his starlets however have never seen any of his films.

come on, i can't believe no ilxors have seen any of his films?

the STV thread inspired me to ask as I'm pretty positive they've never been released except for maybe an odd midnight showing.

I saw Sore Losers, it was pretty fun.

was it more john waters campy or russ meyers campy?

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

More Russ Meyers.
With better music. If you like the Oblivians and Guitar Wolf and the Mono-Men (and I do).

I wish I knew her.

She's a cool chick. She and her husband (ex. Fireworks and Feast 0f Snakes) make retro-lampshades.

wow, those are very cool.

Wow. When I lived in Mempho nearly a decade ago, I had a box at one of those mailbox/maling-stuff places cause people kept stealing any good mail sent to my busted-ass apartment in Midtown. Anyway, there was this very friendly guy who worked at the mailbox place, and he was always telling me about these ultra-low-budget movies he was making. Voila: JMM.

I only saw one of his movies; I think it was called Helvis. I don't remember much about it other than the fact that it wasn't very good, though it was kinda fun in that cheapo/crappy movie sorta way. He was always talking about his next one, which he was gonna call Teenage Tupelo or something along those lines. I gathered it was to be more serious, or at least have less to do with monsters, but I never saw it.

"Maling" equals "mailing. Oh, and I wouldn't know where to tell you to start since I barely got started myself, but I betcha he's still out there somewhere, peddling tapes.

Lee G (Lee G), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

haha that's funny about the mailing box place.

oh he's still around. my boyfriend met him and hung with him when he played in memphis last. his starlets did a burlesque tour a couple of years ago.

Yeah I've heard teenage tupelo was pretty good. D'L ana had the motorcycle she rode nude in that one in her living room. I never asked to borrow her movies from her as it seemed kind of dumb and her husband was kind of uncomfortable with her sharing naked bits with folx so it seemed rude.

A little more poking around (I got curious once you brought it up) reveals that transmissionfilms.com seems to have a couple of his movies available for download, Teenage Tupelo included.

I was in one of his movies. The one in Tupelo. Wrote a bit of dialog for the one about E*vis and the Beatl*es. His movies are...I'm not sure, I like 'em fine...JMM is a cool guy, one of the coolest, and I get a kick out of his anti-hippie stance. Only Memphis could produce this kinda thing. And D'lana is very cool as well, and of course a real starlet...
