a rock star yo!!!!!

GrapeSoda, Wednesday, 7 April 2004 12:35 (twenty-one years ago)

hired killer

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd uh I'd put all the rockstars in a building yeah and blow it up see and then pull their corpses out of the pile and do ollies and railslides all over the disaster zone ON THEIR CORPSES yeah that's the ticket.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

people get paid for skateboarding?

Whatever, I go for the one that gets less admiration from nobrainers.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 12:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I've done the rock star thing. However, I never actually learned to skate. So skating would actually be higher on my priority list.

Maybe that's what I'll do for my midlife crisis. Instead of a sportscar, I'll get a skateboard. Yeah!

Super-Kate (kate), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

holy shit! new idea for a videogame with crossover appeal:

"Tony Hawk: Zombie Skateboarder"

i call dibs!

Kingfish Balzac (Kingfish), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

In Tony Hawk 4 one of the characters you can unlock is Eddie from them thurr Iron Maiden album covers, so it's not really totally unprecedented.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

lol you people are dumb lolol
how the fuck do you think bam margera gets paid?
he fucking skates!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that's just like asking 'well, uh, how do rock stars gets paid? duh?'
well how the fuck do they get paid?
they play in a band!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
skateboarders go on tour
bands go on tour
skateboarders get paid
bands get paid
goddamn people, go to warped tour!!!!!! lol

GrapeSoda, Wednesday, 7 April 2004 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

rock star. don't want to squash my nuts on some armrail outside a mall.

Jay Kid (Jay K), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm too indiefey to rock, and too compus mentis to skate. Back to the 9-5 . . .

Johnney B (Johnney B), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 12:47 (twenty-one years ago)

hmmm let's see i think i would be a skateboarder yup that's exactly what i'd be

Bam Margera, Wednesday, 7 April 2004 12:47 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, that's it. I'm sold. These people make pop fans look bright by comparison!

(D'oh X-post)

Super-Kate (kate), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 12:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha, another X-post while posting made it appropriate again!

Super-Kate (kate), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

so you would be a pop star, Super-Kate?

Bam Margera, Wednesday, 7 April 2004 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I know this is very un-Punk Rock of me, but I really can't fuckin' stand (or successfully stand on) skateboards, and could never really fathom why people I otherwise respected thought they were the bee's knees. A friend of mine who worked in a skate shop (oh, excuse me....sk8 shop) actually gave me one for free (an "Uncle Wiggly FishStick", if you must know). I dutifully covered it in the requisite stickers (mostly Circle Jerks and Misfits, and some sundry stickers advertising skate products I knew absolutely nothing about), but could never really get the hang of it. I used to attempt to skate back and forth from my summer jobs on it, but I was the type of pathetic, posery loser that had to stop when I came to a corner, get off, re-position the board facing the direction I wanted to go in, and then get back on. Most un-cool. After a few weeks of this, I was thoroughly disgusted with myself and banished the board to the highest shelf of a bookcase, where it remained until I went off to college (after which point my mother decided to dispose of it without my knowledge or consent, though the discovery of said act hardly bothered me). Now that I'm a crotchety adult with contempt for the younger generation, I can safely assert that there are few sounds more annoying than that of a skateboard scraping down the street. And why is it that you never see kids on skateboards successfully pulling off eyebrow-raising stunts (outisde of the videos). You always seem them labouriously attempting some dramatic move, only to fail (making lots of noise in the process, but never truly injuring themselves...apart from in that Unsane video).

In any event, fuck skateboards! I'd be a anti-skateboard crusading rock star.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 12:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Yay! All hail us!

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 12:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I would rather be a professional skater. Their fans seem dumber.

Super-Kate (kate), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

why is it that you never see kids on skateboards successfully pulling off eyebrow-raising stunts

That is so OTM. Just down my street, there is a skatepark. I pass it several times a week, and those punks NEVER seem to get it right. They wear expensive sk8er clothing, though.

Jay Kid (Jay K), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess there is an element of 'hero worship' in being a rock star. But as far as skateboarding is concerned, the 'hero' thing is all there is...

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 12:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't want to be judged. I just want to be blindly adored!

Super-Kate (kate), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 12:58 (twenty-one years ago)

rock star, since you'd have a better chance at earning a living later in life.

and suburban skate kids remind me too much of my friends in high school...

XPOST HAHAHAHAH I'm listening to the first track of the Stone Roses' album just as Kate posted that

Kingfish Balzac (Kingfish), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:00 (twenty-one years ago)

pro skater/rock stars:

jason lytle of grandaddy
mario rubalcaba of the black heart procession/clikitat ikatowa

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

rock star

Vermont Girl (Vermont Girl), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

why is it that you never see kids on skateboards successfully pulling off eyebrow-raising stunts

how about 'because it's not easy'? it can take people like months to learn to ollie even. yeesh.

how come i never see kids with legs successfully climbing mountains?

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

You have to go to the mountain...

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

how come i never see kids with legs successfully going to mountains?

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

in SSX Tricky you can unlock Mixmaster Mike, who's not a rock star per se; however, SSX Tricky isn't a skateboarding game either

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

how come i never see kids on diving boards do triple backflip pike motherfucker, yo dives?

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Definitely not skateboarder. Chances at having physical injuries when performing are 0,ryanadams. Chances at breaking bones while skateboarding are too high.

"why is it that you never see kids on skateboards successfully pulling off eyebrow-raising stunts"

I have. My nephew's friend could do amazing tricks. Sadly, he's in a wheel chair because he broke his hip due to skateboarding.

jesus nathalie (nathalie), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I can raise my own eyebrows! Individually. Should this be a new thread?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

i broke my tooth.

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

*comedy "bent my wookie" reply*

Kingfish Balzac (Kingfish), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

whoever's posting as Bam needs to stop b/c you're getting me way too worked up!! damn you. . .

keep in mind like most pro athletes, skateboarders who rake in the bucks (bam, hawk, etc) do so more from endorsements rather than money tied directly to the sport.

so for me definitely i'd rather be a skateboarder - far cooler.

I've had a thing for them since i was a wee lass of 13 and really wish I had kept up my own adolescent skating attempts.

any boy on a board with wheels on it gets a double (or triple) take from me. . .

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

That's another thing. I hated jocks as a teen (and still do,for the most part, despite playing for my office's softball team), yet the whole skateboard scene just seemed chock full'o'jocks (albeit jocks in cooler-lookin' gear).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Rock star for sure. Only problem is I can't change my hand position on my guitar fast enough yet. What I've writen so far is a bit slow, but it sounds ok.

There is no way I'd be a professional skateboarder. One of my friends has a sister who got injured skateboarding. She's fine now but it was quite a tragety(sp?). And the other sister my friend has is a lot of fun. She's a punk with a kind heart.

Aja (aja), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to love to get high and watch my friend Greg skate and I'd always yell "I have faith in you! YOU CAN DO IT!" and he would fall and shatter his fibula and oh how we laughed.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

really though, skaters are the least jock of all athletes. they're more the stoners of the athletes.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, reading of all these injuries, I'm starting to rethink this "skater" choice. I mean, the only injuries I ever sustained as a musician were... erm, ripped-open finger pads, dislocated shoulders due to wind-milling, a couple of broken bones, and a complete blood change Keith Richards stylee.

Super-Kate (kate), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

really though, skaters are the least jock of all athletes. they're more the stoners of the athletes.

This is true. But a jock is still a jock.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

nah, really. . in fact i think i have to go out on a limb and say skaters aren't jocks at all. they're the type of kids who got beat up on by jocks.

using my beloved bam as a reference, he dropped out of school to skate and wreak havoc with his dumb pranks. so not jock like.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

SKATEBOARDING IS NOT A SPORT

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

OR A CRIME!!

;)

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

In the same manner that all squares are not rectangles, Bam Mangera is not indicative of all skaters.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

haha

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

he was merely an example alex. i'm very aware of the dangers of generalization.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

alex u r on fire today

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

And dumb pranks have nothing whatsoever to do with jocks.

::Breakfast Club to thread::

Super-Kate (kate), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

and alex since you seem so intent on labeling skaters as "jocks" (gygax was highly otm here) have you seen 'Dogtown and Z Boys'? Would you even think of classifying pioneering pros like Tony Avala as jocks? He's definitely more rock star than anything else. . .

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

"Dumb pranks have nothing whatsoever to do with jocks."

But the masochism of stuff like Jackass is pretty jock-like to me.
Alex is OTM about skaters being jocks, I was actually gonna say the same thing. Its also really boring to hang around skaters when you're not skating. My brother was a skateboarder. He used to watch skate videos religiously and try to show off the tricks he could do, but most average skateboard tricks are pretty unimpressive to watch even if they're hard to do. Skate videos have cool music sometimes, though.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know why but one of the directions this thread has turned has me imagining the phrase "hacky sack jocks" which has me in stuttering giggles.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

One of the other directions it has taken has me imagining a physical fight between Sam & Kate evolving into slow-mo lezzing up in a shower.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I am not proud of myself.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Uh, I gotta go... do something... now, yeah.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

such lies, nickalicious, such lies

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

No, wait. . . As you were.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I am also not proud. Which is handy.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't really feel intent on ripping apart a couple people's take on skateboarders on ILX, because this is ILX!

if i had a prog or 80s sitcom trivia question, it would be a different story, but ya know...

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, very next thread i looked at:

"How much of what's written on ILX/the interweb do you take at face value?"

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 16:23 (twenty-one years ago)

nickalicious, for the love of god pls retract that.

i really wish more folx were familiar with cKy (bam's crew's vids that helped lead to jackass). I really think those videos are superior to jackass. a lot more skits rather than 'let's eat raw eggs, vomit it into a pan and make an omlette.'

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

what is 'jackass'?

kephm, Wednesday, 7 April 2004 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not my fault you're so hawt!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

the results would be very unhot, trust me.

jackass was a show on MTV featuring guys like Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Steve-O and others doing stunts, pranks and general dumbass stuff.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

i think the situationism on jackass was one of its more undervalued aspects.

my favorite part of the Jackass movie(which had me laughing hard enough to prevent breathing) was the "fouled-jewel-heist-into-an-office" bit...

Kingfish Balzac (Kingfish), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

that bit was good. some of the deleted bits from the movie were my favorite: "pocket ass return" and "rake yohn hates mustard" were great I thought. Oh and the whole fucked-up original ending.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I want to learn to skate! I have a dodgy leg, though.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

then i would advise against.

My, uh, "friend" who's a former pro-skater recently tried to take it back up (he's now an architect) and fucked his elbow up on his first drop in.

Comebacks at 30 are ill-advised.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

i have 2 friends that have tried to comeback, both ended up chinfirst at the bottom of the pool. one needed 8 stitches, the other only 3.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

i always sucked at skating, but all my friends were skaters. i managed a few lame tricks while they were pushing the boundries of physics

kephm, Wednesday, 7 April 2004 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Umm, I was listening to the radio last night, and the Dj said he was going to play the Darkness for a kid who got hurt in a skating accident because the kid likes them.

Ok, now I'd defanitly(sp?) be a rock star, just so that the skateboarers don't listen to crappy music.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 10 April 2004 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

This is actually a fine approach!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 10 April 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I've already got my guitar and I got a couple of drums yesterday. Not a full set and no cymbles sadly. :'(

Aja (aja), Monday, 12 April 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

if by "crazy" you mean "crunk" awwwww yeah

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Monday, 12 April 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

It isn't a verb.

"crunk" can only be used as a predicate adjective/adverb in conjunction with a helping/linking verb.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Monday, 12 April 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Both career options carry a certain element of risk. I would go for rock star though.

No. I mean, crazy as in mad man, like Jaz Coleman, but without that British charm, which is needed, because if you look crazy and don't have that charm, there is no way you can look atractive! No way!!

etc.

Excuse me, but it would be exceptionally preferable if you were to stop invoking my name on these threads unless absolutely necessary. And I'd like to add while I'm at it -- if I may -- that I most assuredly do not appreciate being compared to the likes of diminutive Jon. Though I do quite watching ladies "get low". That is all. Honor the fire.

Fondly but sincerely,
Uncle Jaz
